Ah... I'm not saying that you were stealing, just it... looks like it to people who don't know.

Most people don't think in that special Badger way! Actually probably no one except Badger thinks in that special Badger way! So there's misunderstandings.

. . .

There shouldn't be once both sides explain themselves.

Well it's a little hard to understand even with explanations.

But, ah, let's be proactive! Maybe there's a way to make Badger's Special Way of Thinking easier to tolerate!

(What's there to tolerate?!)

What do you mean?

Um... well, if you think about it... imagine you came home late one day and your favourite--favourite pen was gone. It was a precious item that you really treasured! And it turned out that someone was worried you were missing because you were late and thought it could be a useful clue and took it without asking. Because you weren't there to ask.

. . .Actually, that would make a little sense. When there isn't anyone else in Monoceros using it, I like to take the journal and pen with me to jot down things. I haven't been here long, so being without it would be kind of unusual. The person taking the pen has a good reason to think of that as starting ground.

R...right! But you don't know that you're missing and that someone should be investigating the pen for some reason, right? All you know is that you came home and someone had taken it.

Re: Hypothesis thread

Well, if I were missing I'd be kind of appreciative someone took the initiative to search for me. I'd be kind of annoyed that I had to wait to get my pen back, but it could be worse.

Though in this scenario, I wouldn't have been turned into an animal and stuck into some weird simulation, so Orion does have some leeway there.

That's too far ahead. Think about when you get home. All you know is that someone took your pen. You don't know yet that they're trying to help you! So maybe someone was a bit rude and borrowed it without asking, or maybe a thief came in and stole it... you'd be thinking something like that, right?

Re: Hypothesis thread
[info]lawfulreception
2009-11-05 01:55 pm UTC (link)
The former most likely. Who'd steal a pen of all things? If another teammate didn't have it, it'd be kind of unsettling since the other teams have no reason to take it.

...Okay 'unsettling' that's negative I can work with that.

Um! Right! So it's unsettling, and maybe a little annoying! Because you mistakenly thought someone was impolite and borrowed it without asking first. It's like that. That makes sense, right?

Re: Hypothesis thread

Right.

But would that warrant me slapping the offender or acting hostile in general once they're found out?

Re: Hypothesis thread

Well, not according to Badger's Special Way of Thinking. But most people can't forget that feeling of being annoyed or unsettled so easily, I think. Especially if they don't really understand the reason.

[info]lawfulreception

Could you please stop saying like that?

Alright, alright, I get it. I still think they overacted a bit, given that other people actually DID steal from them, but I guess I can't blame them.

Re: Hypothesis thread
[info]doomclocked

Maybe, but... the game was cruel, wasn't it? They were very tired and hurt and stressed, so they overreacted.

If you feel like it's important to investigate again, why don't you leave a note? That way, at least, they'd know it's not stolen -- it's just Badger trying to help, and he'll gladly give back the clue if they want!

Yeah, true. And it was bad timing on my side for bringing it up so soon, anyway.

. . .that's not a bad idea, actually. It'd help avoid misunderstandings.

Right. I'll remember that if another team suddenly disappears again. Though hopefully none will.

I wouldn't put kidnapping past them, but no, I doubt they'd make it the same kind of game. We'd know exactly what to do.
