After discovering the means for viable space flight humans began to leave the Earth. Whether it was to seek personal fulfillment or fortune many joined the intergalactic stage. It was soon apparent that they were not alone. In the decades that followed, about 50 years, humanity started to make its mark as other species made theirs. For some this meant great achievements in science, efforts to make further human society and legitimate business enterprises. For others it meant finding new and interesting places and people to offer less salubrious services to. Once it was an intergalactic shipping and trading freighter, but now the Phoenix is a waystation in orbit around a desolate planet on the edge of a lawless zone. Over the generations it has changed hands many times and has been added to and modified as needed to suit the needs of those living within its walls. The size of a city, it holds numerous docking bays, living areas, markets, clubs and more. It has become a place where anyone can get damn near anything. Humans are here too now. For some it is a stop on the way to somewhere else or a place where they can get what they need. Others have insinuated themselves in the cutthroat world as surely as they did on earth.
