"Immortals are what you wanted," said Thor in a low, quiet voice. "Immortals are what you got. It is a little hard on us. You wanted us to be for ever, so we are for ever. Then you forget about us. But we are still for ever. Now at last, many are dead, many are dying," he then added in a quiet voice, "but it takes a special effort."
-- Douglas Adams, The Long Dark Tea-Time of the Soul |

Forgotten Gods follows the deities of ancient mythologies, brought to America long ago by explorers or immigrants from their homelands and eventually abandoned or lost from memory. As their worshippers have moved on to new religions, the gods' powers have waned -- for a god, at its most pure essence, is no more than an idea, and an idea is worthless if there is nobody to believe in it. Some have passed, forgotten, from the world, while others have fallen into madness. Some have simply tried to adapt, to make a life for themselves in this place without gods, getting by on what little scraps of worship and belief they can garner. Others are more radical, intent on regaining the power that was once theirs and reviving their followings.
And then there are the New Gods. Gods of cars and computers, television and radio, cities and highways, all those things that modern Americans put their faith in. They are young, at the height of their power. These newcomers are regarded dismissively by some of the old ones, who have seen so many new deities rise and fall in their time; jealously by others, who wish to reclaim the power for their own; and by all with a deep, abiding wariness.
Inspired by the world of Neil Gaiman's American Gods, this game invites players to step into the roles of deities, old and new, to create their own modern mythology. |

PAX LETALE: GODS REBORN
In Southern California, there recently opened a new luxury apartment building. Impeccably designed, impossibly convenient, ideally located, Pax Letale is the sort of residential Shangri La where Southern Californians spend all manner of favors and years trying to secure a spot. But Pax doesn't have a waiting list, nor can a place there be bought or sold. The people who find their way to Pax Letale belong there.
Every tenant of Pax is a reincarnated deity whose worshipers are by and large long dead. Once very real, these gods began to fade as science and reason dispelled the probability of their existence. Reborn as mortals, their essences remain, waiting to be awakened. Somehow, sometimes one by one, sometimes in groups or pairs, these creatures of destiny have discovered Pax, and have not been able to resist its pull.
For at Pax Letale, the awakening has begun. As these gods rediscover themselves and each other, the seemingly invisible but ubiquitous management tracks each of them quite closely, and the very building itself seems to have an agenda of its own. And as the gods made humans in their own image - or humans made them in theirs - so will the the behavior of the people of Pax turn as dark as their myths. Blood, strife, sex, petty plots, torture - even murder will wind their ways into Pax Letale.
A lovely place. A peculiar place. A dangerous place.
Available Tenants:Enki is the Babylonian god of water, crafts, intelligence and creation. Twin of and best friend of Ereshkigal, goddess of the Underworld, he is often seen as a positive foil to his brother Enlil, utilizing his magic and cunning for the good of others; he brings aid to deities and humans alike, serving as a rare masculine nuturer in a chaotic and often oppressively patriarchal pantheon. He will likely have connections to Tiamat, Ereshkigal, and other Sumero-Babylonian deities. Brighid is the Celtic goddess of the forge, inspiration, compassion and creativity, and a patron goddess of artists, craftsmen, and other creative types. In her mortal life, she may have connections to her parents, her siblings, or any of the Celtic pantheon. Masauwu is a Hopi deity sometimes called the Skeleton Man, Keeper of Fire, Spirit of Death, and the Master of the Fourth (present) World. He is depicted as a dark-skinned man wearing a mask; sometimes the creature beneath this mask is described as handsome, sometimes as a disfigured monster. Connections to Native American deities and gods and goddesses of death or enlightenment are likely. ADDITIONAL AVAILABLE TENANTSDon't see a tenant that interests you? The Violet Hour - A Post-Apocalyptic OC RPG |
[28 Aug 2011|09:20pm] |

In 2012, humanity flourished. Violet Inc., a powerful scientific corporation, began the undertaking of a new project. Project Eden was meant to solve all of the world’s problems and give humanity a chance to do things right. By 2016, Violet Inc. had made the United States a world superpower like it had never been before. Change was happening for the better. Many thought it a perfect age…until the disappearances began in 2017. People simply vanished, without rhyme or reason. Panic spread like wildfire and blame was thrown in every direction. A second wave of disappearances left the international community blaming the United States and the ever mysterious Violet Inc. The world was struck again soon after, as all major U.S. cities were gutted and leveled from numerous nuclear explosions. There was no warning. No light in the sky. Simply devastation. The current year is 2024, six years after the second Disappearance and the ravaging of the United States' major cities. Survivors have moved to rural areas or the wilderness. Strength lies always in numbers, as they say. Cults, gangs and tribes have taken hold in place of the civilized order that once was. Does the wasteland hold any hope? If so, does it lie within the structured puritanism of Angel Fire or in the chaos of Eagle Nest? Only those who continue to survive can decide what will come from humanity’s violet hour: rebuild for tomorrow or seize the day while it still remains? |
