[30 Apr 2008|02:21am] Shelby, California, nestled at the foot of the San Bernadino Range, was once a widely populous town. Countless people migrated to the place in 1850 as a result of the Gold Rush fever spreading throughout the state. By 1855, Shelby was a ghost town. Houses and buildings alike had been abandoned, ransacked, and some even burned to the ground. Its residents had fled, fearing the wrath of the vindictive Dooger Brothers’ Gang. For nine years the once rich locale remained deserted, until a group of people came and claimed the land for their own in September of 1864. They rebuilt, restocked, created new lives for themselves. Faith was restored in these people, this land. But one thing the new residents never counted on was the return of the hostiles. The bandits. Two rival groups of outlaws, both claiming the town was rightfully theirs to steal from. Both groups periodically threatened New Shelby’s growing economy. Both groups fought and killed each other mercilessly. The year is 1867. The date, May 1. The place is the fictional former ghost town of New Shelby, California. Law men, bandits, cowboys, and Native Americans abound. A childhood game of “Cowboys and Indians” has come back anew. Where will you fit in, partner? We’re changin’ an’ makin’ history here. This plant is traditionally associated with the afterlife and the underworld. We are living in a world of uncertainty now. Before, the only worries we truly had were whether or not we would pass our examinations or if the marauders were the ones responsible for turning everyone's hair a nice shade of lilac. But times are changing and things are getting darker out in the real world. A growing army is fast approaching; friends and family members are disappearing more often and there are a growing number of events happening that can no longer be explained easily. All done by he who dare calls himself Lord. Asphodel is a game focused almost entirely on the war of the late 1970s that threw the entire wizarding world into chaos. With darkening themes and realistic events, it won't be for those who are faint at heart and can't bear to sit back and watch our most beloved characters thrown into the lion's den. McGonagall becomes Headmistress; Snape (to Voldemort's delight) becomes Deputy Headmaster; Kingsley become DADA professor; Tonks decides to teach transfiguration?!?! Do they die, forsaken, alone? Or do they remain, still wandering the world, immortal, surviving off what little belief they can gather? Forgotten Gods follows the lives of these old deities, brought to America long ago by explorers or immigrants from their homelands and eventually abandoned or lost from memory. As their worshippers moved on to new religions, the gods' powers waned - for a god, at its most pure essence, is no more than an idea, and an idea is worthless if there is nobody to believe in it. Some have passed, forgotten, from the world, while others have fallen into madness. Some have simply tried to adapt, to make a life for themselves in this place without gods, getting by on what little scraps of worship and belief they can garner. Others are more radical, attempting to regain the power that was once theirs, to revive their followings. And then there are the New Gods. Gods of cars and computers, television and radio, cities and highways, all those things that modern Americans put their faith in. They are young, at the height of their power. These newcomers are regarded dismissively by some of the older gods, who have seen so many new deities rise and fall in their time; jealously by others, who wish to reclaim the power for their own; and by all with a deep wariness. Inspired by the world of Neil Gaiman's American Gods, this game invites players to step into the roles of deities, old and new, to create their own modern mythology. Opening May 16. post comment
