Doctor. What have you done this time?

[She doesn't know where she is or how she got there, but she's sure it's the Doctor's fault.]

I had plans.

[Clara's right--Martha had to leave the Doctor, because there's a limit. He isn't bad, but he is different, and there is only so much someone can take. Someone should take, for their own mental health.]

More than...? [What? Because while Clara likely means the earlier Doctor, Martha knows something of the Doctor's revolving door of companions and his judgment of them.]

More than he did. [She's almost gotten used to thinking of him as the same person, the same man she sees now.] He always has, I think he has, but I think he's more aware of it.

[Maybe that had something to do with knowing who she is now. Knowing it hadn't been a trick, that she hadn't been luring him into anything.]

It takes him a shock to appreciate what he has. [That's pretty human, though. Didn't she have that same flaw a lot? God, she misses her fiance right now.]

I think he's afraid. [Of being alone. Of not being alone. Of losing the people he cares about. He doesn't like to show it. He likes to pretend he isn't. But she knows he must be.]

Very. [She agrees without hesitation.] He keeps too much to himself.

[He does. She wishes he didn't. Quietly, she takes a sip, apparently thinking, until she suddenly asks,] You really think I'm mad?

[The Doctor's made himself perfectly clear, but she needs to know if he's alone.]

[She gives an honest shrug of her shoulders and an innocent expression.] No clue. He thought he was alone before, then one of his kind showed up. If you're right, I want to know, and if you're mad, I want to know.

But you trust him, you think he might be right? [It sounds like a question. It isn't one.]

I trust him, but I think he's being quick to dismiss. [She shrugs and takes a drink.]

He always is. [Still, she wouldn't blame her if she does think he's right. There's a lot she's asking them to believe.] He doesn't like being wrong.

He was going to do it. They all were. He was going to press the button, kill all those people. The one he doesn't talk about and the one he's going to be.

[She realizes how much sense she isn't making, but she's torn between knowing she should be talking to him about this and wanting the other woman to see what she's been trying to tell them from the beginning.]

That's why he doesn't remember. Too many Doctors in one place.

[Martha has to admit: Clara sounds crazy. If she hadn't had what experiences she had, she would have walked away from this conversation. As it is? She can only nod slowly.] Don't suppose you have any evidence of all this, then?

[She takes another sip, frowning. She's thought about that; she doesn't.] It'd help if he were here. Future him. [She gets just a little quieter.] The one I travel with.

He'll probably come around. He can change his mind once he gets to know you, stubborn as he is. [Like with Jenny, thinking of other possible Time Lords. Martha gets a little sad just thinking about that missed opportunity. The Doctor doesn't want to be alone, but he's scared, too.]

Always been that stubborn, has he? I think it's gotten worse with age. [So that's something to look forward to, Martha, if you ever run into future him.] He'll come around. I know he will.

[She hopes.]

[She smiles and nods.] All right, then. So what else about you? I'm a doctor. [She chuckles a bit at that.]

Not much to tell. [Yeah, she probably wouldn't get away with that.] I'm a teacher. English.

Just a normal schoolteacher. [Who sometimes went off in a blue box traveling through time and space...]

Nobody's just a teacher. [She takes a drink with a grin. She always believed that, and the Doctor was always keen to make people feel important. It's one of the things she likes about him.] I always liked English.

I like stories. [Which is true enough. And traveling with the Doctor, that was one great big story.] I was going to travel the world.

I think we all want to travel. How else would he get us? [Martha raises her glass.]. To companions.
