Dear Gothamites and DC door people, stop me if this sounds inappropriate, but considering victory of some kind was achieved, who would be interested in getting a drink?

Also I'm Donna Troy for people who haven't met me yet.

I think I might be okay. The be yourself mantra never got me very far in life.

I think if you put me in a funhouse that showed the state of my mind and soul, it'd be some half-dead senior citizen on life support hissing curse words at anyone who passed by.

I'm trying to not be that guy.

No, but not being wrong doesn't mean you're right, either. And I'd hope you're aware of it at this point.

I'm pretty right. [Hmmblinkhmm.] You have permission to stop me if my self improvement efforts start to backfire.

I think there's more to you than that, or else you wouldn't be trying to not be that. But I've been away for quite a while, so maybe I'm wrong. [...] You know, for as much as I'm shilling advice hand over fist it seems, I am trying to not push my involvement too much on people.

You're correct, though I think the crazy old guy part is a little louder than he should be.

People want your involvement, silly.

I am terrible at those.

Do you get a lot of EVERYONE IS FOOLISH Edward? (Edward, not Eddie?)

I'm doing my best. We'll see how it goes.

I suppose it does. [A somewhat longer pause. Slight eggshells:] How are things?

Oh is there? Are you sure? Mid-thirties, doesn't that mean you're getting up there in age? [She appreciates the irony of the question coming from her.]

We're doing better. She can't stop saying she failed me because of a stupid thing I told her while I was insane. I know she tells everyone this and it makes me look extremely abusive. Which is not something I'm comfortable with. I'm an asshole, sure, but I'm not abusive.

Better is good. Even if it's tiny steps. [Her pen rests, like maybe she's going to try to say more, but nothing else comes.]

You know it's older than that Teasing keeps me young.

[Her listening is good enough for Eddie.] Telling someone without them instantly urging me to be a better man helps. I am trying.

Keeping people on their toes does it for me.

I think you've been trying to be a better man since the first time we met. For whatever values of 'better' you're focused on at any point in time. I don't really see it as something that needs to be said at this point, maybe.

Why am I not surprised?

I'll probably die trying to be better. I don't think it's a goal I'll ever reach. An unsolvable riddle.

I'd be disappointed if you were.
