[ When she was in Gotham, it was hard not to feel like she was moving around an area that belonged to someone else. She was only here because they were allowing her here, and if they wanted her gone, she would be. It was hard to figure out where she stood with any given member of the Justice League, if anywhere at all. It was entirely possible she wasn't even a blip on their radar, and she'd prefer it that way.

The message from Eddie had been a surprise. Was he actually just interested, looking for more information, or had someone sent him to keep an eye on her for some reason? It didn't really matter either way, this was an opportunity to talk to another League member and maybe get to know more about him.

There was nothing that made Sara stand out on the streets. Black jeans, black ankle boots, and a green t-shirt with her leather jacket over top. No marks or scars that were distinguishable were noted, she passed by strangers without causing a second glance. It was when she saw the dogs that she smiled. She had a hard time resisting faces like those. ] Cute. What are their names?

[Eddie smiled when she approached. Sara seemed normal for vigilante standards and his interactions with her so far had been pleasant. He was hoping for the best and banking on Hal not just picking her because she was a pretty blonde.] This golden is Flounder and the darker haired one is Matilda. [The dogs curiously sniffed her and wagged their tails. Flounder seemed to be taken by her much faster than Matilda, so Eddie handed Sara his leash.] He's new. We found him in one of my traps I set out for ninjas. Matilda is a little more shy. Ra's gave her to me as a present a while ago. [Eddie glanced up in the air as if he had a sudden thought.] Huh. Both these dogs became mine thanks to Ra's. That's weird.

[He shrugged and smiled down at Sara, making sure she was ok with taking Flounder's leash and then gestured for them to start walking.] Thank you for meeting with me. I know this is strange, but I like your initiative to help with Justice League thingies and I don't want this Ra's business to get in the way of that.

[ Sara didn't bother to even try to hide her curiosity when Ra's was brought up. And ninja traps. She'd have to ask about that one later. ] Ra's al Ghul gave you a dog? Why? [ There had to be some sort of catch, or reason, or plot that she was just completely unaware of. Dog? She couldn't see the point, but it wasn't like she could really figure out Ra's.

Taking the offered leash, she crouched down for a moment to get on Flounder's level and offer a quick scratch behind the ears in greeting. They both seemed like lovely animals, but keeping one herself didn't seem ideal.] I don't like being useless, and I don't like seeing innocent people hurt. Seemed pretty straight forward that I should help when I could. As for Ra's, well, I don't think he really cares what I do, and the one from my world would have hunted me down by now.

We exchanged information about our spirit animals. I called him lion and he said I was a jackal. And, he thought I needed a dog companion. [Eddie turned to look at her and realized that wasn't much of an explanation.] We fight on opposite sides of the battle field, but we have respect for one another. Respecting your enemies is a key strategy for victory. And, a free dog.

[Flounder took to Sara easily and Eddie seemed pleased by that. Glad that the dog was adjusting well.] Here you have to earn your way to be trusted. I myself used to be a criminal and it took some time to make people believe my reformation was real.

[ Spirit animals got nothing but a blank face from her, but respect she understood. The sounded a lot like teachings she had heard in the past and tended to live by when it came to her battles. She'd taken down a lot of horrible people, but she did respect what they were capable of. ] The free dog doesn't hurt. [ Lame joke aside, at least the dog got a good home out of it. ]

I don't really expect anyone to trust me right away. But I'm not afraid to work for it. [ She had worked for everything in her life since the day she stepped onto the Queens Gambit. If she could fight to survive for all those years, she could work to gain trust. ] Former criminal? What brought on the reform?

[A thoughtful sound.] Good. And, like I've said, I'm impressed with what you've done so far. I don't know the rest of your crew- though admittedly I had a bad experience with the last Ollie I met. [Eddie pointed towards a nice shady little park.] This is where I got married. [He told her proudly and lead the way down the path towards it. The question of reform was a story he found himself telling lately to more and more people. Why was a good riddle, after all.]

As you know, we're all fictional characters. I've been in comic books for almost seventy years and for whatever reason I remember every single decade. I remember being a child in the 20's. I remember being a crook in the 40's. I remember everything. So, you see, I'm actually very old. And, one day I was tired of being more comic book character than human.

I've heard about the last Ollie that was here. It doesn't sound anything like the Ollie I know, from before and after he was the Arrow. [ She had no idea how she'd deal with that Ollie. Probably with some form of violence. ] Hal mentioned him, it's weird to think about. [ His pride in his marriage was pretty obvious, and it brought out a genuine smile from Sara. Happiness was contagious, it was hard not to smile over something like that. ] It's a pretty spot. I could picture a wedding here. [ She's stopped imagining weddings years ago, she couldn't even recall what she would have dreamed up as a child for her wedding day. ]

That's a whole new level of weird. [ Sara was clearly startled by the information. She knew about being fictional. She knew people knew about it, but Sara had no idea their memories would stretch that far and they would still remain young. ] I guess I'm lucky in that way, only existing in a TV show. I can't even imagine having memories that stretched that far. But I guess in some ways I get what it's like to feel not quite human.

I suppose I should put in the effort to get to know this Ollie. I think the difference is difficult for Hal. Having your best friend not remember you is a hard hurdle to climb over. [Eddie smiled and pointed to a giant patch of grass.] Technically it was the reception, but it was still part of the wedding to me. We had lights strung up everywhere around here and enough purple and green to drive people crazy. One of the only nice things to happen in Gotham.

[Eddie smiled at her reaction. Yes, it was extremely weird.] Well, we live life out of the ordinary. But, now we can set our own destinies. [He pointed at her.] Origin story. Like you promised.

He's not so bad. Oliver Queen puts on a front of still being an irresponsible playboy. But he's not. [ That Ollie had died, and this one was honesty better. ] I try not to bring him up around Hal. Had another version arrived that didn't know me, I'm not even sure how I'd deal with it. [ She loved him, dearly. It was probably obvious on her face. Even if she couldn't let herself be with him. He needed to be something better than he could ever be with her. ] Reception is definitely part of the wedding. It's the whole day, not just the twenty minutes it takes to go through the ceremony. It sounds like it was wonderful.

[ Sara smiled, dropping her gaze down to the dogs. It was hard to know where to start, what to include, and what to leave out. She didn't want to give away too much about Ollie, even if most of it could be found on any computer in another reality. ] I guess it starts with Ollie, actually. He was dating my older sister, and I was a horrible younger sister. I was sneaking around with him, in college. He was supposed to going on a boating trip with this dad. We arranged it so I could sneak on board with him. The ship ended up going down. I probably should have died, Oliver thought I had. But I ended up being picked up by a ship called the Amazo. It held a man named Dr. Anthony Ivo and his crew. They were off an Island called Lian Yu. Ivo was trying to find something on the Island that the Japanese had created. A type of serum to create a super soldier. But while he was looking, he was experimenting on prisoners he had on the ship. When they first found me they originally locked me up, but Ivo took a liking to me, and for the next year I learned from him instead. Until they captured Oliver, who had washed up on Lian Yu and was getting in Ivo's way, with some other people who were trapped there.

[ For whatever reason, he life always seemed to bring her back to Oliver. ] Instead of letting them hurt him, I helped him escape, and ended up back on Lian You with him and a few other prisoners we set free.[ Sara paused, taking a breath as she tried to figure out what to say. There was a lot, and she wasn't sure how much detail she wanted to go into. ] Anyway, long story short, we needed a way off the island, and there was only one way, the Amazo. So we hatched this insane plan which was probably never going to work, but we had to try. It didn't work, and the ship went down. I should have died again. But I didn't. That was when I met Nyssa al Ghul. She saved my life.

[The truth was, Eddie had basic knowledge of just about everyone in the door. Some more than others purely out of interest. It was better, though, to hear experiences first hand even if he had a rough idea of what they were. He listened intently, his dark eyes bright with the love of learning and stories. Eddie loved a good tale. And, she had a very interesting one.] What did Ivo teach you? And, I've heard stories about Nyssa from Ra's. She was rebellious and hated his plans for mass genocide. So, do you know what he did? He sent her to a concentration camp during World War 2. Her and her family. Her children. Just to teach her a goddamned lesson. The end result turned her into a monster from all the heart ache and loss.

[ The days on the ship had really been the start of when she would do anything to survive. She shrugged, trying not to think too much about the faces of the men she had watched die. ] How to fight, I guess, but now it really wasn't much. Forensics, biology, quite a bit in genetics. I'm definitely no expert but I picked up some tricks.

[ Nothing about what Eddie was saying surprised her. Ra's was capable of a lot of terrible things, and he punished anyone who went against him. Even his own children wouldn't be safe. ] The Nyssa I knew loved her father. She was his heir. Mass genocide was never a part of any plan I was part of. Maybe he had those plans and I was unaware of it, but I don't think anything like that has happened in my world. She didn't have family, or children. I wouldn't call her a monster, either. [ There was something in the way she spoke about Nyssa, is matched the way she spoke about Oliver. ]

Interesting. In any case. A super soldier serum sounds like something from the other door. Most people here get their powers through being aliens or strange circumstances. Others don't have powers at all. [Eddie gave her a curious look at the familiar tone about Nyssa and asked delicately:] She loved her father. Does that mean she followed his command?

It's a thing in this door. Or my world. Who knows. Anyway, it's real. It's not a good thing, but it's real. [ Sara gave him a curious look, she had to wonder what kind of experiences he had with Nyssa. Most people followed Ra's orders unless they wanted to die. She was a rare exception. ] Depends, I guess. Short answer, yes. With exceptions. She was supposed to drag me home or kill me, but she didn't. She released me from the League.

[Eddie decided quickly that Sara truly didn't have any involvement with this Ra's or any future al Ghul that could cause issue. Should could have been lying, but to what end? He'd verify all this later. He paused thoughtfully, walking along the winding path of the park.] Like I said, I am a reformed criminal. My wife? Her father was a criminal and it made her so angry she became a vigilante. Being trained or saved or even mingling with rogue types are good learning experiences. You're taught by the best and then pick your own path. [He wasn't telling her anything she didn't know. Sara seemed to see the good and the bad in a reasonable way without wanting to hurt innocents. There was no way he could have really known that without getting to know her first.]

I'm sure you were curious why I asked about your story. It wasn't only about Ra's and his family. [Eddie stopped and Matilda, the copper-haired dog, sat close to his leg. He looked at Sara and offered a kind smile.] I think you'd be a good fit for the Justice League. I know you're part of Ollie's team, but that's no different from my involvement with the bat family. I can't officially offer you a spot yet, but I was wondering how you felt about being included. You've already helped us in the past and frankly we need more women on the team.

[ Pick her own path, that's what she had finally decided to do when she ended up here. The League was without a doubt, the best. But at a cost. ] I figured you were keeping an eye on me, or being sent to decide something. [ Sara was use to being on alert for her own safety, at least here no one was trying to kill her. She stopped when he did, returning his smile and reaching down to pay attention to Flounder.

The offer was one she wanted to consider seriously. It sounded like a good gig. It made her useful, put her to work and allowed her to make a difference, even if she held back on her training. ] I'm not saying no, but I want to make sure you know what you're doing. You're a reformed criminal, but I'm an international assassin from the League of Shadows. The super solider serum I told you about? Just before I ended up here, an entire army of criminals who had been injected with it was attacking Staring. The serum messes with your mind. It makes you crazy. They were going to kill everyone, and Oliver's team never would have stopped them alone. So I contacted Nyssa and agreed to rejoin in exchange for her help in saving the city. I was leaving with the League when I ended up here. I may not belong to Ra's in this place, but I don't know if that makes me Justice League material. I want to help, but I also want to make sure I actually belong.

[Her response was, of course, another test. She could see proof of that glimmer in his dark eyes. If Sara had jumped at the brass ring he just held over her head, he wouldn't have even suggested it to the League. Doubt that she was worthy to be on the same team as Superman was a good sign. Most days, Eddie didn't think he was worthy of it. And, he would have picked the same damned thing she did if it saved lives.] Let me ask you a question. Would you have killed innocent people for the League?

Re: eddie/sara quicklog

[ Hard question, a pained expression briefly crossed her face. ] Intentionally? No. Have I killed people? Yes. Terrorists, dictators, war criminals. It's a long list. I've been in war zones. Innocent people die in war zones all the time. Have I caused the death of someone innocent? I might have, I don't know. 90% of the time I was in and out, but when both sides open fire and explosions start? Sometimes you can't keep track of everything happening and who caused what. I always fought to keep innocent people safe, to do what was necessary to stop the people that no one else would. But then you start to wonder where the line is, you know? Murderous dictator who kills is own people for power, or father of two young children who don't know the difference?

[ Sara stood back up again, a lot of her past missions were still weighing on her, and always would. She was letting him see that. ] Would I ever do the things the Ra's did here? No chance in hell. He would be the kind of person I would have been sent to stop at home.

[The mention of war sparked something and he cleared his throat before continuing to walk down the path.] I lived in a battle zone for five years with my wife. I lost everyone that was on my team. My friends. At the time I thought they were my family. That's what all these tattoos are. [He pointed to one on his arm, a woman trapped in a snowglobe, a Lucha mask on his shoulder and a playing card on his bicep.]

[He didn't talk much about Earth-3 beyond how much easier it was to love someone when each day felt like the last one. But, it was hard. It left him with visions of the dead. It turned him into a new person. If she was showing him missions that weighed on her, so was he.] I made choices there that probably lead to the accidental death of people who didn't deserve it. I've killed goons with my bare hands. I've blown up entire bases. All of it to win a war. I don't think it'll come to that in this world. I think here we are allowed to make choices. When Ra's took over the city, I made deals with gangs to keep the peace. I basically gave them a free pass to do whatever illegal trading and dealing they wanted for the price of stopping riots. Is that Justice? In my mind, it is. In my mind, anything we can do to help our cause without deliberately and directly hurting innocents must be done.

[ It sounded like there were other members of this Justice League with a past just as dark as hers. That was hopeful. He seemed happy now. Or at least somewhat happy, the way he talked about his wife and marriage. Maybe he had found some sort of peace. She appreciated the fact that he was willing to share some of that. ]

You're talking to the girl who brought in the League to keep peace in her city. I get your logic and why you made that choice. [ If she had those connections, she might have done the exact same thing. It was logical, and it kept people from getting killed. Sometimes the right choice wasn't always the moral high ground. ] I probably would have made the same one.

Even if you decide it's not for you or the boys don't want to let you in, count on me bothering you for help when I need it. And, I insist you do the same. In fact, I've heard you and Ollie have your own IT girl. If she needs anything, send her my way.
