I watched so many of those Russian mooks drop dead in cold blood. The birds would say it's what they deserve. And, it's not. Some of those guys don't have a choice, some of them have what it takes to reform. But, they don't get that option now because they're dead. So, I started thinking about myself. About how the only one who really trusts me is Bruce and what kind of "family" is that? How can I belong there if I'm just another mook who ten years ago "deserved" to die?

It's been [Blink.] different. I thought trying to settle down again would make me feel like I did with Steph, but I don't. Muerte makes sure I'm okay, she asks what I want and that's not something a Gothamite is used to hearing.

Ah, so you finally got where I was when Bruce left. Admittedly, I get a lot of death threats from the birds, depending on the day and their mood. [Cursor.] I grew up in that Family. I worked for them, and I stole for them, and I hooked for them. I know how they break their footsoldiers. I'm probably way too sympathetic. How did Bruce take it?

[She chuckles on her end, but it comes with a knowing smile.] Be careful, green man. You can get very accustomed to that. And then? Going back is even harder.

They're from a different world. Even Jason, sometimes. It was easy to forget when I was with Stephanie, but she's not my anchor anymore. [Blink.] Well, first he thanked me for my service. Which is the bat's way of telling me to screw off. And, then magically a day later he apologized out of the blue. I thought it was a trick, but once I explained my position, he assured me that he'd keep the birds from killing. I know he'll try, but it'll take a long time to change their minds. And, I can't be around playing nice while he does that.

Tell me about it. Oh well, it's not like I have any responsibilities in Gotham anymore.

Jason came down on me hardest about the mobs, when Bruce was gone. Stephanie turned against me. I knew then that without Bruce? I was going to end up on the very wrong end of a bird one day. And, as it so happens, Bruce isn't interested in talking to me since his return. So, here we are.

But I never had responsibilities, and I'm a teensy bit angry. We'll see what happens when that storm clears.

Are you going to retract my dinner invitation if I misbehave?
