THE TRUTH AND NOTHING BUT THE TRUTH MEME

Everyone lies. Sometimes it's the little things, sometimes it's the big things, but we all do it. Whether it's something insignificant like stealing the last cookie, or hiding a part of you from someone you care about, here's your moment to be free. For whatever reason this is the moment to be a hundred percent honest, in all things.

How to Play:
  1. Post with your character | fandom | and any preferences.
  2. Be sure to mention any scenarios you are interested or not interested in playing.
  3. Tag Others.
  4. Be awesome to each other.
  5. Have fun!

Use the RNG to help you pick or choose on your own!

PROMPTS
  1. BY CHOICE: The truth has been weighing on you and you need to tell someone it. This is your decision and your choice, and you've accepted there will be consequences you will have to live with.
  2. NOT BY CHOICE: Maybe you're a really honest drunk, or maybe you've been drugged. Either way, something is forcing you to come clean, even if you don't really want to.
  3. LAST WORDS: Maybe you're dying. Or you're leaving this person for a prolonged period of time. What matters is you're being separated from someone important to you and they need to know the truth before you go.
  4. FOUND OUT: You've been caught red-handed. They've found out your secret and confronted you about it, now it's time to face the music.
  5. NOT YOURS TO TELL: Sometimes you find something out that's not your secret to tell - but keeping it from someone is eating you up alive. Maybe their significant other is cheating on them, they were switched at birth, whatever it is they need to know and it's fallen on you to tell them.
  6. IN BED: Whether you're about to fall asleep, woke up from a dream, waking up in the morning or even post other bed activities, everyone is always a little more honest under the blankets.
  7. WILDCARD: Not interested in any of the options or have an idea of your own? Do your own thing; you do you!

Natasha gave a grunt when she practically dropped Steve on the bed, her leg now aching and her shoulder feeling a little worse for wear as well. She presses her hand on his shoulder and tries to lead him down to lie back in the bed, her expression staying as neutral as possible as he continues to speak. She doesn't know what he's getting at, why he's talking about Banner, but she can hear the bitterness at the end of his sentence, and she supposes she can understand it. Natasha would feel the same way if a woman had done the same thing to Steve, although it would be for different reasons that she doesn't like to think about. Those reasons were something that she would always keep to herself. It was natural to be protective over you partner in the field, but deep down Natasha knew that wouldn't be where her protests would lie.

Or, perhaps, it wouldn't be for different reasons. She looks at him curiously when he admits that he would still hate the next guy a little, and she sits down on the edge of the bed beside him, not comfortable with leaving him like this. "I told you, you're not an asshole," she repeats herself once more, giving him an amused smile. "What's wrong, Rogers, think I can't handle myself? You're sounding a little more protective than usual, and that's saying a lot for you." She pauses. "And Banner did what he thought was right. Whether that's true or not doesn't really matter, I guess. What's done is done."

"It wasn't right," he insists. He knows it's maybe not the truth, that Bruce did have his reasons, but at the end of the day Natasha was the one hurt and that would never sit well with Steve.

"I know you can handle yourself," he says and props himself up on his elbows. He offers her a lopsided grin. "I've seen you handle yourself. You're amazing, Natasha. You're so special - and I know you can take care of yourself but you should still have someone to take care of you. You deserve that." His voice softens as he keeps speaking, but heavy with regret. "Sometimes I think I can take care of you," he collapses back into the bed.

"Ultron was right, I don't - " he rubs his hand across his face and looks up at the ceiling. "I don't know how to live without war. You deserve better than that." And that was what it came down to didn't it. He was Captain America. He was always going to be Captain America and everything else in his life would always come second to that. Even if he could sometimes fool himself into thinking it could be different - or that Natasha fit so easily into that he knew it still wasn't right. It would never be fair to her, or to anyone else.

Natasha can't help but huff a dry little laugh when she sees the lopsided grin that Steve wears as he looks up at her. When his inhibitions are low she can definitely see the kid he used to be, before all of this. Before the serum and the wars. Sometimes she forgets that they are still young, Steve younger than even her, and when she remembers it, it saddens her. He was necessary, but sometimes what's necessary isn't always fair. She stares at him with curiosity when he collapses back into the bed, looking away for a moment to brush her hair away from her face at his slew of confessions. Maybe she shouldn't be here. How he feels, and the fact that he's saying it, shouldn't matter because he would never say these things sober.

She manages to look back at him when he finishes with the same trained neutrality on her face, but there's an undeniable flush on her cheeks that she can't control. "Neither of us know how to live without war," she confesses quietly. "I've been at war since I was eight years old and it's never stopped." She hesitates, unsure of whether or not she should even reply because of his situation, but she seems to make a decision and shifts up the bed a little so that she's closer to him and can reach out, brushing his hair off of his forehead.

"You take care of me more than anyone has ever taken care of me before." She speaks in reassurance, but she means it, and the genuineness can be seen in her face. "Barton has always had my back and he always will, be he has a family to care for. He found a way out. You and I... people like us don't find ways out." She gives a smile that doesn't reach her eyes. "We're going to be doing this for the rest of our lives. But I know one thing for sure, and that's that we'll be doing it together. I don't need someone who takes care of me." Natasha places her hand over Steve's gently, fingers curling to hold it. "I already have you."
