Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry

take you in

Everybody needs a little help once in a while. Offering them a ride to a shelter is one thing, but if you really want to help, why not offer to take them in until they can get back on their own two feet?

How to Play:
  1. Post with your character | fandom | and any preferences (needs shelter or can give shelter).
  2. Tag Others.
  3. Be awesome to each other.
  4. Have fun!

You can use a RNG to help pick, or choose your favorite.

1. Kicked Out: Your friend just got kicked out of their living space and you know they've got nowhere else to go. Help them out!
2. Recurring: You pass by this person almost every day on your way out. Maybe you give them some money every day, maybe you give when you can, or maybe you don't give at all. Either way, seeing them so often finally pulled on your heartstrings enough to open your door and welcome them in.
3. Baby, It's Cold Outside: The snow storm of the century is heading your way. Come on, you can't let them freeze to death, even if it's just for a night.
4. GDI A Kid: Usually you'd keep to yourself, but you can see that this person has a child or is pregnant. How can you not help, you're not a monster.
5. Trade Off: Listen, they need a place to sleep, you need someone to do the cleaning and you're a pretty awful cook. Mutually beneficial.
6. Familiar Face: You haven't seen them in a while and they sort of fell off the face of the earth. You heard that it was bad, but you didn't know it was this bad, bring them inside!
7. Wildcard: If you don't like any of the prompts, make your own!

He had sisters who were werewolves? This was so, so weird. Kate kind of wished that Logan was here because he was even smarter than she was and maybe he could figure out what was going on.

Kate pulled the seat belt across her chest and fumbled with the buckle for a moment before getting it to click into place. Her parents usually made her ride in the back seat, but she wasn't about to tell Derek that. It was fun riding up front.

"Thank you for helping me, Derek," she said, proud that she remembered her manners.

Derek buckled his own seat belt and took his keys out of the center console, pushing them into the ignition and turning them to start the engine. He looked over at the little blonde girl who looked so horrifyingly out of place in Derek's vehicle, and gave her a little smile.

"You're welcome, Kate," he said.

He pulled back onto the dirt road and eventually out of the woods entirely, turning onto the main stretch of back road that ran from the end of Beacon Hills to town. It only took him fifteen minutes or so to reach the McDonalds and he stopped in front of the order box in the driver thru, telling the girl on the other end that he needed a minute, and then he looked over at Kate. "All right, what do...you like?" he asked, having to consciously stop himself from replacing "you" with "kids" and sounding like some kind of creep to the girl in the McDonald's waiting for his order to come through her headset. "You want, like, a Happy Meal or something?"

"I want a Big Mac. And french fries. And chicken nuggets."

Kate may not have had her first Change yet, but she definitely had the werewolf appetite already. Plus she walked a long, long time in the woods and that made her extra hungry.

So much for manners. She didn't even think about saying please or thank you.

"Jesus..." he replied, clearing his throat and turning to face the speaker to order. "All right... Can I get a Big Mac, two large orders of fries, a nine piece chicken nugget, and two diet Cokes?"

Derek looked back at Kate. "You're good with diet Coke, right? What else? What kind of sauce?" he asked just as the girl asked the very same from the speaker.

Kate's nose wrinkled. "Diet is gross. I want milk. And barbecue sauce."

Those were things that totally went together as far as a five year old was concerned. "Please." she added, belatedly realizing that she should be trying that whole polite thing since Derek was helping her. Her parents and Logan were probably going crazy trying to figure out where she was.

With a dramatic sigh, Derek turned back to the speaker. "Sorry, Big Mac, two large fries, a nine piece nugget with barbecue sauce, one diet Coke and one milk," he corrected the order.

Once he got the total, Derek drove forward to the pickup window. "Milk with a Big Mac and barbecue sauce? Gross," he teased.

"Milk makes your bones strong," Kate said. "And I gotta have strong bones if I'm gonna be a good werewolf."

At least that's what her parents always told her. "I broke my arm when I was three," she shared. "I jumped out the bedroom window."

"Your bones are gonna be strong anyway, because you're a werewolf, booger snot," he countered with a grin before he pulled up to the window, paying the girl.

His attention turned back to the little girl and he lifted his eyebrows. "Well, what'd you do that for?"

"Cause I saw my mom and dad do it," Kate said.

What she hadn't known at the time was that her parents were werewolves and had the ability to safely jump out of a second story window without breaking themselves. She also didn't realize they were doing that to go for runs without the kids knowing they were gone.

"Well, did you learn your lesson?" he asked before turning back to the girl at the window and thanking her, reaching out to take the drinks first. Those went into his cup holders, and then his attention moved back to the girl to take the bag, handing it to Kate. "Don't eat my fries, Munchkin," he said before thanking the girl at the window again and then rolling up the window as he drove forward again.

Derek just parked in the McDonalds parking lot so that she wouldn't have to try to eat at the sheriff's station. "There you go, kid, eat up."

Kate rolled her eyes at his question. Even at her young age, she had a pretty good grasp on sarcasm. God help her parents when she hit the teenage years. Food was a good distraction though, so she dug out her burger and unwrapped it, taking a big bite, not noticing that sauce was dripping out the other side and on to the floor of Derek's car.

Derek took the second order of French fries out of the bag and popped a few into his mouth. Kate seemed to be content to ignore him in favor of her food and it wasn't lost on him that she was making a mess. Now I know what Mom meant when she said stuff like "this is why we can't have nice things, Derek," he thought with a pang of both sadness and amusement.

"Hey Kate, how about you make sure you get it in your mouth, huh?"

"It is in my mouth!" she argued, though the words came out all muffled since her mouth was full of burger when she spoke. The manners thing was definitely hit or miss still.

Kate still wasn't sure that it was a good idea to let Derek take her to the police, but she was going to finish eating before she suggested that he just take her to his phone to call her parents.

"Yeah, it's also all over my car now, Squirt," Derek countered. He ate a few more fries and then took up his soda, sipping through the straw before leaning back in his seat.

"When's the last time you ate, anyway?" he asked her, noting that she was shoveling food into her mouth like it was her job.

"Breakfast."

That did seem like an awful long time ago. Kate wasn't sure how long she spent walking around in the woods trying to find her parents or a telephone to call them. She was going to be in so much trouble.

Derek nodded and gave her a sympathetic look. He wasn't sure if her appetite worked the same way his did, but if it did, she had to be starving by now, being early afternoon, especially if she was as early a riser as Derek was.

"Do you know how long you walked before you found me?"

"A long time."

She was only five and didn't wear a watch or carry a phone to let her know what time it was. It didn't take her long to finish her Big Mac and she took a long drink of her milk before she dove into the fries and nuggets.

"Can I call my mom before we go see the sheriff?"

A long time. So, in other words, no not really. Derek sighed softly through his nostrils.

"Yeah, all right, it's out of the way, but we can go back to my loft and you can use my phone," Derek agreed. The last thing he wanted was to be tangled up in some kind of accidental drama if her parents decided, regardless of what either he or she said, that he'd kidnapped her. Which was, really, why he'd rather drop her off with Stilinski and step away from it.

Kate beamed at him before stuffing a handful of french fries in her mouth. As soon as she called her mom, everything would be better. Her parents would come get her and she would be able to go home with her family.

At least Derek was a good babysitter in the mean time.
