Dante’s house sat back off the road with a short driveway through a handful of trees before one would be upon the house proper. It wasn’t hard to see Dante’s bright blue Supra in the driveway from the road though and anyone who was uncertain if they were in the right place could easily use the car to help identify the house. Dante had intentionally sent out a message telling people to look for the car in the driveway prior. The idea of leaving Dash out in the winter weather wasn’t ideal, but it was a quick and easy identifier that most could follow simple enough. The outside of the three-bedroom, two-bath, two-car garage house was only minimally decorated - a welcome mat in binary that read ‘welcome’ if one could read the code, a wreath on the door for the upcoming holidays, and a newer addition for anyone who had been here before of a statue of a dog-like head by the front door - while the inside was a completely different story. Upon their arrival, each guest would be greeted personally by Dante with a bright smile and a cheerful invite into the house. She’d dressed simple for the day, relaxed - it was supposed to be a chill day - in a white button-up shirt that was worn unbuttoned over a blue sleeveless crop top with a pair of black skinny jeans and no socks or shoes. The guest would be offered a Santa Hat in good humor before being given a small tour of the kitchen, shown where the bathroom was and then were directed to the living room where festivities would be held for the day with a polite request to not disturb the upstairs delivered while touring people around the first floor quick. Which considering the size of the downstairs alone it didn’t seem like a terribly bothersome request to her. Especially, with the slew of comfy places to sit if couch, beanbag or floor and the huge projector screen having been rolled down with the surround sound setup to run the movies through. Snacks and drinks outside of the Chinese food would be plentiful - mostly healthy things like cut fruit, cut vegetables, cheeses, crackers, hummus, pretzels, nuts, some freshly made salsa with chips - along with a plentiful selection of both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks alike. Nearly all food had been set up buffet style on the kitchen table but there were still a couple small platters of snacks on the coffee table in the living room. Yet even with the business of first arrivals, anyone entering the house would immediately be struck by how colorful the inside of the house was while not being overwhelming. Each room had been painted with a color that may have been unexpected - navy blue, umber, green - but still worked well with the furniture and other decorations. Each item in any room popped a new color into existence in such a way to compliment the other colors that surrounded it, to engage the eye but not distract, invade or overwhelm the view. Art and plants seemed almost strategically placed so that the eye could always be caught on or admiring something throughout the house if it was the Out of gravity print by Lora Zombie hanging in the kitchen with her Mexican honeysuckle or the framed centered print of Black lips that hung in the living room that was complemented by the living chocolate cosmos plant above the fireplace there was always something else to look at. Maybe it was another painting that splashed color to life or a tiny figurine hiding in one of the many plant pots or perhaps it was one of the - it felt like a million - other tiny details that seemed aptly organized around the house that would catch one’s eye. It would almost seem as if the entire thing was meant to be sensory engaging, stimulating, centering while not pressing upon sensory overload as well… Assuming one bothered to pay attention to details like that at all. Which the organization of the house alone was another thing to marvel at. It was clearly meticulously looked after with a place for everything laid out. Not everything was in its place as she’d spent the morning cooking and prepping - a house lived in was a house worth keeping - when company would arrive but that was hardly a concern. She lived here, it was her house if they had issues with some minor mess in the kitchen they could get the hell out. Yet, if time was taken to meander about it would be easy to find a small altar-like table in a tucked-away corner of the living room with an aged picture of a Mexican woman not much older than Dante - a lipstick kiss mark adorns the glass of the frame over the woman’s forehead - two candles, a couple of small trinkets, and fresh-cut chocolate cosmos laid in front of the picture. If given an eye it could quickly be determined to be a memorial for a loved one but for who? That was harder to tell as there was no name anywhere in the alter that identified the woman in the picture. Guests would be allowed to roam the first floor of the house relatively freely if watching movies, grabbing food or socializing however they saw fit. Dante wasn’t here to police anyone and honestly, she was a bit too busy moving around the house trying to assure all her guests' needs were met before settling in to watch movies and socialize herself. |
