To say that Joey was in over her head would be a gross understatement. While she had plenty of the knowledge needed to treat just about everyone she'd talked to or observed, she didn't have any of the tools she needed. In this place, she couldn't have tests run, she couldn't prescribe medications; everything was so rudimentary and all she could think to herself was that she was the only person she knew of in the commune with any medical training and people were going to hold her responsible for something she could only vaguely control. The best she could hope for was to treat some of the symptoms to ease the suffering for everyone and hope that things ran their course or that this was some sick experiment on their immune systems somehow orchestrated by the clinicians who'd brought them here and that they wouldn't actually let anyone die by the end of it. Dean's apartment was the closest to Joey's at the time she received his message and so she decided to start with him and then prioritize, for now, getting to the people who were closest to his apartment and had the least severe symptoms that she could address and then working her way through the building as efficiently as possible from there. The way she figured it, she could crank out the easiest things faster and then get to the more difficult ones. She'd get to Sirius whenever she was closest to his floor and bump his priority because, well, he'd helped her so much when she'd first gotten there. Barry had met her and given her some of the stash of white willow, lavender, and fox glove that Angelika had brought to her for situations just such as this, and then she knocked twice on Dean's door to warn him of her presence before opening it to let herself in. "Dean, it's Joey, I'm coming in now," she called out. She'd tied one of the long pieces of fabric she'd cut the other day for bandages around her nose and mouth and hoped that would be enough to keep her from exposing herself too much to the illnesses everyone was displaying. Joey moved into Dean's apartment, closing the door behind herself, and she gave him a sympathetic sort of smile when she saw him. "Hey...sorry you're feeling so shitty... I've got some stuff, we'll see how it works. I got a lot of messages," she said, approaching the side of his bed and setting her supplies down near the foot of it, "so you'll have to refresh me on which mono symptoms you're feeling right now. I know you said you were fatigued and," she leaned forward, pressing the inside of her wrist to his forehead, "have a fever. What else?" |
