The new year around the corner, Steve easily found himself looking into the past. Another Christmas had passed and another year threatened to pass him by. Even without the loss of seventy years of his life, the years collected in a pile. Already in his young life he had lost many friends and compatriots. Unlike others, he didn't even get the chance to ignore them or create new memories with them. He had somehow slept their lives away and was only left with the option of keeping what memories he did have. His goodbyes were with headstones that didn't say anything back. No harsh words to curse him for going away or no kindness to forgive him for things he couldn't control. These were his darker thoughts as he allowed his feet to take him wherever they wanted to go. Fortune had smiled down upon the military veteran though and he had found new friends, warming the cold thoughts like the sun. Many people found coming here a disturbance or a displeasure, but being placed in Red Oak had eventually become a relief for him. He found Lois and a new life, no longer under the mercy of S.H.I.E.L.D. and what they thought was best for him. There were people he missed, but overall he was content with this new turn of his life.

The air was brisk and it was turning Steve's nose and cheeks a pink-color, but no matter the harsh weather and the darker thoughts, there was a friendly smile on his face. December was always a busy time. Places to go; people to see. Money to spend, as well. There were more teenagers and children to be seen with the holiday break still in effect. Soon they would complain about having to return to their studies, but right now all they could focus on was their new gifts that stimulated the economy with its purchase. He couldn't help but smile at the energy and life that was filling even this small town. The size had been growing, mostly with transplants, abandoning the small town Steve had known months ago. Oddly enough there were reports of transplants disappearing also. Were they being returned home? It worried him when it should have relieved him.

Shoulder colliding with another, Steve's thoughts shook back to reality, "I apologize. My mind must have been somewhere else." He offered any assistance needed to place the person back onto their feet if needed and met their gaze with an apologetic look that showed he wasn't speaking the words because society deemed them the proper ones.

Lois had been gradually teaching Steve Rogers the technology of the twenty first century. When he first arrived in Red Oak, he could hardly do more than study the microfilm machine that held the library's history files, now he was sitting in front of the bright light that Lois called a computer. The first rule she told him was to always keep the safe search on. He didn't know what that meant, but he had a feeling with how many times she repeated it, it must be a public safety law he hadn't been given any information for. He had to make sure to do that the first chance he got. Didn't want to be breaking Red Oak's laws, or anyone's laws.

With new research needing to be done on the Interdimensional Police Department and their leader Inspector Tanith, Steve knew he had to leave the comforts of microfilm behind in order to search in the technology of today. Microfilm wasn't considered a reasonable means of information storage anymore. It was all stored on this Internets Lois kept bringing up. The soldier had yet to decide if it was good that information was readily available at your fingertips. There was fast and free information for anyone out there, even the types that shouldn't be given access without a watchful eye over their shoulder.

"What was that site again? Gagle?" Steve spoke aloud since he was the only one in the room as far as he could tell. It was the first time he was exploring the Internets on his own. Normally he had Lois' guidance, commanding him to click this link or to never click that one, but he had to do this on his own sometime. She wouldn't always be there to hold his hand through unfamiliar territory. If he went through enemy territory before, he could do this. Typing what he believed was the right word into the white bar at the top, he paused right after. What was he supposed to do after that? It was about now that Lois took the lettered device from him telling him he was doing everything all wrong.

The Players : steve rogers and lois lane.
What: lois' return.
Where : abigail manor.
When : after his recent comm post.
Rating : pg.
Notes : he can't help he's a delusional 90-year old virgin.

It was a battle getting Lois back. Steve had prepared himself for a battle, but not that kind. The older gentleman had finally helped him, but it took a lot of dancing around in circles to get to that point. At least the older man followed through in the end. Even if it took some work, he couldn't help but be grateful that someone had been there for Lois that hallowed eve. Otherwise she would have been left to the mercy of the streets.

Now he had to shift gears as he went from one waiting game to another. At first he was waiting for his superior to come barking orders through the door on what she expected them to do that day. It was no surprise when she didn't show up at first. There was an awkward ending the last night they met. It had to have been just as embarrassing for her as it was for him. Sure, he had been talking like a scallywag, but he didn't use a kiss as a defense mechanism either. On the scale of things, he thought he had less things to be embarrassed about than she did. There may have been an unsavory thing or two that came spilling out of his mouth, but at least he hadn't tried to steal her chastity.

Now he had to wait for her to come out of her coma. If it wasn't soon, he knew he was going to have to take her to the hospital, but if he could he'd like to keep watch on her here. Dragging the chair at her bedside closer, Steve could only hope he wasn't invading her privacy being here. He didn't always sit at her side. He knew he had to take care of himself, or she'd hit him when she did get up. Most of the time though, he was there, praying quietly that she would wake up and blame him for everything that happened at the ball. It made him smile, thinking about her accusation to come. It was like Lois to do that. He'd be disappointed by any other outcome.

Folding one arm over the other, he leans back as comfortably as he could in his chair. He was getting tired, sitting here waiting, but what if she woke up? She'd be confused. It'd be good for her if he was here to explain everything. He'd just close his eyes and rest here. With her room door left open, no one would think they were fonduing in private, or anything else socially unacceptable. Instead it was just one friend looking over another, waiting patiently for some kind of result.

The Players : steve rogers/captain america. open post.
What: the captain is on a mission.
Where : grounds for insanity.
When : midday, october 19th.
Rating : pg-13 for faith's sexual humor.
Notes : he might have a little dust since I've been neglecting the poor boy. he needs some more companions, so I hope people will take advantage of an open post.

Steve Rogers had more or less been keeping himself locked up in the library since his arrival. The mystery of not only his arrival, but everything that had to do with the little town of Red Oak had grabbed his full attention. At times he had his research sidekick, Lois Lane, to keep him going. Other times, it was his own sheer determination that kept him from stopping. He was just not educated enough to know when to quit. While Steve may run into wall after wall, he just kept getting up into the fight and rushing in at full speed. He never did seem to know when to quit.

Today he had already spent the morning looking over the same documentation and getting no result. However he wasn't accompanied by his usual companion and by lunch time he wondered if somehow something else grabbed her attention. He didn't know much about Lois Lane, except she was headstrong and loved her doughnuts and coffee.

There was an idea. Maybe his new-found friend had stopped by her favorite doughnut shop to partake in a little mid-morning/early-afternoon gluttony.

Stepping into the shop, he saw little had changed in the few weeks passed. The shop was just as much of an eye-sore as it was the first time. The only difference was it seemed to have become more festive for the upcoming holiday. With a quick glance, he saw no sign of the headstrong woman he came to see. He guessed he was running solo today. He almost had forgotten what that was like.

"I'm already here. It would be a shame to waste a trip," he reasoned to himself. May as well check out what Heaven would be like if it had a hole in the middle. At least he vaguely recalled Lois saying something of that nature.

Waiting for his order, he looked around the shop, trying to find it in a more positive light than before. It definitely wasn't an easy feat when there were lips that could be used as a seat. Who was the brains behind that piece of furniture?

What: the captain arrives.
Where : local park.
When : after the entrances of the other dames.
Rating : pg for this good ol' boy.

Steve Rogers let the calm sound of the wind and the light crunch of the leaves take away his thoughts. All his problems were his own and no amount of alcohol would take that away. He'd have to buck up and learn to roll with the punches.

It all started when he wanted to contribute something-- be a proud member of the American race. Steve didn't want to be a hero, the likelihood of that seemed... laughable. He just wanted to know he had done his part and he did it to the best of his abilities. Joining the army wasn't a conscious effort to be a Nazi-killing soldier, but rather a chance to protect the people and the country he loved.

A cute girl jogged by, giving him an approving glance. He smiled, to be kind, but he had no interest of a new 'dance partner' just yet. Especially knowing her "approval" was probably of his 'scientific enhancements' rather than his actual worth as a human being. After losing his chance to dance with the intelligent and equally beautiful Peggy Carter, he had lead in his shoes. Besides, if he could nap for 70 years and it just felt like another lazy Sunday rest, how could he even fathom the idea of a lifetime dance partner? He didn't want to watch all that he learned to love wither and die. But that was him bordering on sulkiness again.

Gotta take the high road, Capt., or you're in for a miserable ride.

It was probably something Fury would say if he knew his thoughts. Which reminded him, he was on a mission. Ending up in Red Oaks was, well for lack of a better word, a surprise. Chasing a villain in the rain one minute, only to be in a warm, sunny Red Oaks the next does that to a man though. Strange wasn't a new ball game for him, but even this one tipped the scales.

So where to begin? He was given a spyglass and a region to search but no compass. How was he supposed to know if he was going North or West? Logic said he should let history be his guide. Maybe the archives around here would give him a lead. It could be a dead end, but it was a start. And if he had learned anything, it was the fact that a man just needed a start. The rest would eventually fall into place.
