It was a beautiful afternoon in Red Oak. The temperature was mighty fine and the weather itself was absolutely flawless. It was the kind of afternoon where the children of Red Oak would be forced to go outside and play rather than play those dangerous video games that the news insisted corrupted the minds of the young. Sure, some children would be doing homework, but that would just be silly to do on a day like this one. Instead, the children were forced into going to the park, where the jungle gyms waited, the old (but constantly refurbished) state of the art castle themed playground playset lay in wait for them to climb and battle for the honor of their imaginary kingdoms. It would all be completely normal by Red Oak's standards save for one tiny, minuscule addition to the plan.
There was a dragon laying in the park. A dragon that was so large that he nearly filled the park completely due to the massive size. He was curled up just right to avoid damaging the castle and to avoid any of his limbs from going into the street. The sun that bore down on his platinum scales caused their metallic sheen to shine further, as though a beacon for all to come and stare. It was an invitation most couldn't resist and bystanders started to gather to see the sight.
The children, however took a different approach. Having been forced away from the wonders of technology only to be slapped in the face with something that they'd only had to slay in video games, they immediately saw this as something shiny and new. They began to climb all over the dragon as a living replacement to the playground he used as a napping spot. The adults tried in vain to shoo the children away, but they refused. A few adults quietly discussed trying to shoo the dragon away, but that idea was shot down by fear, something the children seemed to have no problem ignoring. As for the dragon, he would simply glance at everyone with a lazy look and allowed the children to continue in their merriment and the adults to chatter about. Some children chose to climb him like a mountain and others chose simply join him in his lazy ways by using him as an oddly comfortable pillow.
But the strangest thing of all about the napping dragon, besides his actual presence, was the fact there was an iPad next to his large head allowing him to listen to the sounds of an audiobook.
