Who: Laura Kinney and Captain Rory Williams
What: Going on exploration adventures!
Where: Grounds for Insanity, then Metropolis
When: 04/04/2012
Rating: I'm going with PG-13.
Laura hadn't thought that today she would end up giving a tour of Metropolis, but she also hadn't had any expectations of today at all. She had settled into a routine, of sorts, but the nature of that routine was inherently flexible. She woke up at exactly six in the morning, checked her defenses, dressed, ate, and began patrolling. It was usually one or two at night before she returned to her base of operations to shower, eat again, recheck her defenses, and go to sleep. Sometimes later. She didn't need much sleep. It took about two days of being awake for her to begin feeling fatigue.
She still drank coffee, even though her body processed the caffeine and sugar of a mocha latte with extra syrup too fast for her to notice any surge of energy. She liked the taste of coffee, and she needed the calories of the chocolate and milk. What was happening to her now reminded her of the time she spent in New York City, where she would forget to eat for days. It was already hard for her to maintain muscle mass without accidental starvation. She envied Logan for that even if the cost was a slower healing factor. (Remy was always reminding her to eat. He wouldn't have let this happen.)
The nourishment was especially necessary if they were going after what Laura had yet to name. She knew it was a reconnaissance mission, but if anything went wrong it would be her responsibility to extract this stranger.
Speaking of said stranger, Laura watched the door as she sipped her coffee, and when he entered she got up and walked over to him. "You are the person I communicated with, correct?"
Whatever Rory was expecting, it probably wasn't a sixteen-year-old girl who barely topped five feet, wearing fishnet tights under black hotpants, black armwarmers, a grey fitted tank top, and enormous black leather boots that stopped at about mid-shin. What topped it all off was the smears of black eyeliner she was wearing.
