Title: Painful Platitudes
Author: [info]jule1122
Prompt: Life isn't fair

When Michael asks one too many times for the latest toy they can’t afford or why his friends have fathers and he doesn’t, Debbie snaps, “Sometimes, honey, life just isn’t fair.” And the conversation is over.

Michael hates how helpless and unimportant the words make him feel.

He sits with Ben listening to Hunter shrug off another breakup. As his son dismisses the pain of being rejected because another girl panicked before learning Hunter is worth every challenge being positive poses, the same words burn against his tongue.

He never realized they hurt Debbie as much as they hurt him.

Prompt: Life isn’t fair

“Where is he?”

“In his room.”

“What happened?”

“I do not know. He came home from school, yelled something about life isn’t fair, and stormed off to his room.”

“Justin, if I do not come back, I might need you for back-up.”

30 minutes later....

“Well?”

“It seems that Gus lost the role of Joseph, in the school play, to ‘yucky Joshua Stevens.’ Which means he will not get to hold hands with Kelly, the girl playing Mary.”

“Wow Brian, Gus has his first crush. It might be time for the talk.”

“I think Gus was right. Life isn’t fair.”

Title: Follow the Stars
Author: [info]jule1122
Prompt: Picture Prompt-Night Sky

Brian’s stretched out on the grass between the pool and the stables. “What are you doing out here?” Justin asks as he joins him.

He feels Brian shrug. “Michael and I use to do this,” he answers. “He had a book of constellations, but even at Debbie’s there were too many lights. We couldn’t see shit.”

It’s a clear night; the sky filled with stars. “What do you see now?”

It was meant to be a joke, but Justin finds himself holding his breath as Brian looks at the sky a moment longer before turning and meeting his eyes.

“Everything.”
