Unexpected Visitor

“Is that your dad?” JR whispered to her brother.

“Get real. My dad in a Santa suit?” he sneered. “And he’s too big to be your dad. I can’t figure out who— holy shit!”

“Did you see that, Gussy?” she asked, wonder in her voice. “He pulled a whole bike out of his bag! It’s really him.”

“It’s impossible, JR. Santa’s not—” Gus stopped short as the plump man in the red suit turned and looked him in the eye. He winked in their direction and let loose a joyful belly laugh as he vanished in a trick of light.

Title: It is the Season 29 - Christmas Eve
Author: [info]rainbow1907
Prompt: December 24 - Christmas Eve
Beta: Many thanks to my wonderful beta LJ User buckeye5! All remaining mistakes are mine.
Author's Note: Drabble Series for [info]drabylon dollars!

They were done for the day. Once Gus and JR were safely tucked into their beds, they wrapped some last-minute presents and then put everything under the huge Christmas tree in the den.

Afterwards they sat together in front of the fireplace, Mel and Lindsay sharing a nightcap and some cookies, Brian and Justin making out like horny teenagers.

“Don’t you two ever get enough?” Mel groused good-naturedly.

“No such thing as enough,” Brian teased. “We’re not an old married couple like you. Just follow our example and do whatever it is you two do… but spare us the details!”

Waiting

He lay watching the silent flakes drift past the night-darkened window. The Christmas lights reflected off the colored foils and festive bows of the packages awaiting eager fingers come morning. Tomorrow would be a hectic period with visitors, kids, and the annual family dinner. Tonight was for them alone; he was just tired of waiting for it to begin. Leaning forward, he grabbed his smokes and glass of Beam from the coffee table and settled back to continue his vigil. He cursed airports and snowstorms and the all around unfairness of waiting for the one you love on Christmas Eve.
