So I’ve been wondering about your kinks. No, seriously. But first a little background. QAF was my first fandom. In fact, I had never heard of fandom until the end of 213 sent me searching the internet for reassurances about Justin’s fate. QAF was also my only fandom for a long time. But eventually my need for reading material outpaced QAF’s production, and I drifted into other fandoms. Currently, I’m active in a few and a reading lurker in several. Basically, I’m a slash whore.
The point of this is while reading in multiple fandoms, I noticed some treads in kinks that made me wonder if fandoms form kinks or if your kinks draw you to certain fandoms> The sexual version of the age old chicken or egg dilemma. It all started with rimming. I love rimming. Nothing turns me on like a well-written rimming scene. QAF is a great rimming fandom, but others I read in have little or no rimming in them. One fandom actually requires a warning for rimming! I prefer to think of it as an enticement. On the other hand many of these same fandoms are full of stories featuring BSDM, D/s, breath play, blood play, non con, etc, something there is very little of in QAF (not counting the wave of post S2 punish Justin fics which I do not).
So I started to wonder how much of this is related to the uniqueness of QAF. This is only fandom I know with a m/m couple that has not only a canon relationship, but canon sex. The other fandoms I read involve non-canon pairings. (I know many of you have strong feelings about the slashing of non-canon pairings, but please don’t bring that debate here. As it’s been said before, this is really all about sex). Initially I figured, I loved rimming because I’ve seen 101, I know how hot it is. And I assumed QAF writers stay away from rough sex because we have never seen Brian and Justin engaging in it. Along those same lines, while I don’t particularly care for public sex, it is canon for Brian and Justin. So I have written it, and I do expect to see it in a certain percentage of stories I read.
But I think that is too simplistic. For instance many stories I’ve read that predate QAF include some excellent rimming scenes. And I find BSDM in pairings that I can’t imagine ever engaging in it. So share your experience with me.
