46. Drabbles: Letting Go
Title: Letting Go
Author: [info]itwaslovetome
Theme: Opposites
Notes: Drabble x2 … [info]grayskyblue - Thanks for the beta. Opposites are Abandonment/Freedom or Love/Hate, something along those lines.

When you were still in high school, you stood in that place that no longer felt like home, and listened to him tell you how it was going to be – your “disgusting lifestyle” – your father’s abandonment felt like letting go.

You hated what he was saying, but he was still your dad. You wanted more than anything for him to know, or even to want to know, what was best for you.

But instead you were the sand he could never quite figure out how to hold onto… Always clutching too tight and letting it all fall through his fingers.

* * *

When you were leaving for New York, you stood in this place that still felt like home and you were amazed at how letting go and love could feel so alike.

You hated what he said about how it was “only time,” but you knew what he really meant. The two of you were infinite. So you would compromise, so neither of you had to watch your dreams slip through your fingers.

It was like sand, and after all the times you’d held too tightly, or he hadn’t held tightly enough, this time, you were sure you’d get it right.

Wow! This is really beautiful. I never would have thought of this comparison, but I really enjoyed it.

You hated what he said about how it was “only time,” but you knew what he really meant. The two of you were infinite. So you would compromise, so neither of you had to watch your dreams slip through your fingers.

Every word is perfect, but I especially had to quote this because it is so lovely.
