I knelt beside him on the bed carefully, reluctant to disturb his restless slumber.

He shivered lightly in his sleep, his sweat-covered body reminding me of better times.

Times our bodies had rutted tirelessly together; our shared sweat and semen combining in a testament to the passion that constantly consumed us.

I pulled the duvet tightly over his shoulders. He moaned quietly, and I knew that soon he would awaken, reality a kick in his remaining ball. He would pretend he was fine, and I wouldn’t argue.

I pressed my lips gently to his forehead and kept my silent vigil.
