If no one showed up tonight, or only a few of them, there were going to be a ridiculous amount of leftovers that would need to be eaten in the next couple of days before they went bad. It went well last time. This time really shouldn’t be much different; as far as she knew no one had been at each other’s throats yet but unless that was publicly announced she’d probably never know it anyway if she didn’t see it herself. At least this go ‘round there were a lot more things to throw together: meatballs, cheesesticks, lil smokies she’d been able to throw in some barbecue sauce, what was left of the chips and chex mix. All of that taken care of and the cheese sticks thrown in the microwave in a container with a lid on it to keep them warm, she set to work on the last few things she was attempting. They sounded good in theory but if they turned out horrible she’d try and slip them into the trash before anyone noticed. With all the crescent roll dough she was trying to make some flavored puff things. There were ones she was rolling up containing pepperjack and pepperoni, ham and some cheese dip, cheese dip and salsa, and for dessert-style ones she was tossing in a few peanut butter and banana, cherry and orange marmalade, and marshmallow fluff with fruity pebbles. At least those would be sugary and reasonable combinations so they couldn’t turn out too horribly. There was even whip cream to toss on them if no one had ruined the cans doing whippets yet. That…actually sounded tempting but the buzz never lasted long enough and there were only four cans. This would have been a hell of a lot easier had she texted Richard to help roll these up and bounce ideas off of him since he had offered to help cook and all before. Too late now but once she’d popped all of the puffs into the oven she did send him a personalized text. It’d be awesome if you came tonight. Promise to not maximum-velocity hurl meatballs at your head when you’re not looking. If not I can always set some food aside for you and bring it to the cabin for whenever. Jers set the oven timer and leaned back against the counter to wait with what was left of her glass of lemonade and slid her hat onto her head. There, costume complete. |
