"Oh, I was playing around with the design, kinda testing it to make sure I had it down, been a while." It was a pain to try to fix the top layer of a design without messing up the layers underneath it. He wasn't a hardcore perfectionist, much of the stuff he did just came spontaneously and incorporated happy accidents, but this was way more specific a thing and it'd bother him. "Haven't really decided what to do on my face yet, thought about doing sugar skull as well, but it'd be a different design. Themes are cool, that kinda twinsies is a little bit dull. Also I think that's enough room to wear whatever you want."
"Oh, unattached." Not exactly a clarification there. "Had an ex-girlfriend who wanted me to do this all the time, though." Sort-of clarification. "Man, it's like all I've talked about since I got here, art and stuff. I promise I usually do more with my day than play in paint. Sometimes I'd go to parties and get high and just paint on people half the night, though. My cousin was a party-hound, was renting a house from him with a couple other friends, a lot of shindigs held in my living room or it was pretty much expected that I'd go when they were somewhere else. It got kind of repetitive, so I'd turn people into fantastic creations. Faces and necks, arms, legs, backs. It didn't work too well to try it while I was drunk, though. Couple years ago I was doing full-body airbrush for a strip club once a week, theme nights. I did makeup for the haunted house before we opened our doors, not everybody's but a lot of people's. I was that guy who could fill almost any spot we needed. Master-of-ceremonies tour guide, usually in corpsepaint and a fancy opulent type of outfit, or like Jack the Ripper style. Take over any of the room sets as needed. Calming down kids that got too scared and had to be guided out. What I was doing when I was in this outfit was a jump-scare, we had one hall section that had twists in it, walls covered in floor-to-ceiling curtains out of this kind of material, really low flickering lights, monstrous sound effects. Find a dark corner and pull the hood down low, be really still-- or hide in one of the places where there was a hidden split in the curtains-- and wait till a few people file out then jump out and feign attacking and scream at them. Works better than it sounds like it would."
That was a lot of talking about himself, he thought as he picked up the white cream base that set with a velvety matte texture and started rubbing the sponge in circles on its surface. But he was also realizing how little he'd told about himself before now.
