all night || por la noche
[Effects of previous days might've vanished by now, but still, today won't be your luckiest day. Today there's an eclipse in the sky, and to those who are more used to magical worlds, it might be a more obvious sign that something will inevitably go wrong.

As the night falls, certain areas will become busier - forests and swamps where creatures crawl will see their numbers suddenly rise, and these extra animals and monsters need somewhere to go.

Even if you're in a safer area, you might run into one of them. Maybe something as harmless as a a deer, or something much more sinister waiting for you outside your house, walking into stores, in the various routes, even within lakes and the sea.

So watch out, because this will be a very long night.]

[[Invasion log! Time to test those charms for those who have them!]]

[Whether the monster was about to go in for round 2 against you, bloody claw and all, it doesn't exactly get the chance: Not so far off away, from the cover around a street corner, several gunshots ring out.

Specifically, a handgun fires a series of quick shots with almost eerie accuracy, aiming to stagger the claw into flinching away again, bullets piercing right at the wound where your knife did the initial damage. Akechi would empty the clip if his ammo wasn't limited here, first time he's used the weapon out of his original belongs. For fuck's sake.]

Hurry - back this way before you're swarmed!

[Well, that is alarming. And being the war veteran he is, gunshots awaken a particular instinct in him, that pulls him to take cover and get ready to attack back, rather than feeling relieved.

He does notice the accuracy-- well, part of his brain does, at least, but his priority is in taking his knife and rolling behind the (mostly dead) beast for protection. So it takes him a few seconds to register those gunshots were meant to help him rather than harming him. Your words certainly help with that.]

[He looks both ways to make sure there isn't another monster paying attention to him, and then runs your way, big knife in hand don't try this at home children.]

[If he notices (he does) or cares (he doesn't) about the reaction, it's only so far as his own self-preservation that for the briefest barest but very real moment would have 100% shot again if that knife had lunged in his own direction with real intent to kill. Akechi honestly almost wants to laugh at himself for the instinct to protect himself from such a thing at all, for him to have such a killer reaction in turn at the drop of a dime. His hand doesn't even shake.

But the moment passes and whatever possible threat he perceived from you seems to dispel, although he can't help the sweat at the back of his neck during your approach. Tensions truly are high.]

The roads through here are still clear. I doubt it'll stay like that much longer.

[Well, good to see they are both very healthy and normal people.][As he gets closer, he also realises how young you are, internally startled for a brief second.]

... You are quite the shot. [And you probably shouldn't be firing guns? Probably. Nevermind he was just a couple years older than you when he was slithing throats at the trenches, but those were war times. And this isn't a war... is it?] Thanks for that.

[He takes that uncertain praise with all the matter-of-fact attitude of someone who isn't quite gloating about it but is obviously aware of his own skill - and also of the natural doubt he can tell stirs from your perspective.]

I'm aware. [Obviously, etc etc.] Save the thanks for once we get past whatever all this is.

[Or at least to some semblance of safety first.]

[... Right, so you're also a bit of a bighead, noted. Although with that aim of yours, he supposes you are in your right.]

I'm new here, so I can't help much with answering that. [He looks around.] Haven't seen police or any sort of law-and-order authority around either, you got those here? [Or are they just no show when needed, as it tends to happen.. well, everywhere.]

[New in town? Hearing that does make him raise a brow in looking at you, a little - surprised then almost pitying the absolute shit timing of it. He almost feels bad for being on edge himself. Almost.]

There's none. Not unless you account for the efforts of other fellow travelers more or less jumping into the fray when the moment calls for it.

All else, the powers that be are rather content to keep hands off.

[Well, don't be too worried-- he's a big boy, he can handle himself. And he's been in worse situations. World-war-type worse situations.]

That's what the usually do, don't they? [Kings, Prime Ministers, Presidents-- all cut by the same Messer knife, or something.] Great. So we fend by ourselves. You know the lay of the land? Places to take shelter, to retreat? Vantage points?

[Gotta appreciate a competent assessment of the situation, ngl. Akechi gives a brief pause just to look at you and take measure, then his own response comes in turn, all business.]

Enough to navigate the area, yes. Bear in mind these attacks haven't happened until today - most buildings are merely commercial or housing and largely unfortified.

We'll have to improvise safe zones and ways of getting to higher ground for now.

[His second name is "Competent". The third is "Stubborn-bastard".][He is familiar enough with that kind of assesment-- got plenty of those looks from Seargeants and Captains who asumed he was just a daft country boy. Mindless meat to feed the grinder. The fact he got plenty of those looks is why he ended up raiding trenches: a the closest thing to an elite team that you could get in the muddy and savage world of the war.

So, again, he is not unfamiliar with that look. What it's surprising is to get it from someone younger.]

[But there's not time to lose being surprised. He nods once, looking around.]

Are there banks, here? They have vaults, should resist better if we can get people inside them. City halls too, schools, or even hospitals-- the have more room, and plenty of furniture to block the entries.

[To Akechi's credit, although he has no qualm about "using" that competence he identifies in speaking with you, he is also very much one for equal share - if only because he's a control freak enough to want to see something done himself rather than hand it off entirely. One way or another it leads to their collaboration here.]

If it's this town, the hospital ought to do. It's the largest, won't lack for emergency supplies and the injured are certain to naturally seek it out for care. Two birds, one stone as it were.

[Only problem now is...]

Let's just hope the monsters haven't swarmed the place entirely first. What do you say - care to do a bit of recon?

[...] How many bullets have you left?

[He's not unfamiliar with such looks either, likewise from superiors, guardians, adults in general but also colleagues, classmates... even the Phantom Thieves at times. Akechi takes it with far less grace, let me tell you. He vaguely rolls his eyes and decides to answer simply, by swapping in a fresh back up magazine into his pistol and moving forward with stern confidence.]

It's enough. I'll be heading this way.

[Follow him - or don't. He leaves enough room in his pace to be kept up with, despite the words, but he's clearly got little qualms with fielding it alone.]

[Well, excuse HIM for worrying about the youngsters, you brat. He stays still and indignant for a second, vaguely wondering if he ever was this cocky with his superiors, and deciding not to answer that for mental sanity.

He follows you, of course. He won't leave you alone to do all the work.]

No harm in making sure. [:T]

[You aren't the only trigger-friendly one in this scenario, although in his case he is using his gun much more sparcely. He doesn't need it to make thing very painful to the creatures that try to get close to him, technically, but pain is easier to draw when there is already a source, like a bullet inside an eye socket for example.

But he reserves that for the more daring monsters, other than that.. he's just walking. Walking towards the coffee shop, where he hopes he can meet Eli, and the fact that monsters happen to fall down writhing painfully in his wake, must be a just coincidence, surely.]

[You know, it almost doesn't surprise him at this point to see you going about this all about as casual as it gets. Given that first day they met and whatever crumbs he's been holding onto from that experience, he's not so far off from connecting the dots when he happens to take certain notice of the behavior of so many creatures around you. I mean... really.

That leaves at least one threat handled and the other... uncertain. What else is new. When Akechi steps forward, this time it's with some measured distance between himself and Victor, to say the least. He keeps his pistol in hand for good measure.]

Looks like the shop is closed for the day. [A real shame, truly.]

[No, shhh shhh, he's just a normal guy walking. A dude, even.][He gets closer, but stops before getting to you anyway. And despite nearby monsters still very much writhing on the ground, and you being not too far away from him... you'll feel nothing out of the ordinary. Perhaps a very faint buzz, if you pay enough attention, but no more than that.]

Well, that's dissapointing. [His tone is dry, like his sense of humour.] The employees fled, I suppose?

[A silly little guy.]

Presumably.

[He makes a point not to actively look at any of the monsters, not to scrutinize their strange movements and the proximity involved. As though it sends its own unsaid message for him to walk and accept the allowance clearly given to him in the image of stepping over creatures that were rampaging just moments before without direct question to the suspect in control. He bridges the distance between the two of them - some, not fully yet.]

There's certainly been no lack of evacuation efforts. Comes with the job for some of the travelers here, I suppose.

[Seasoned heroes and all that.]

[Well, if he's been pretending not to notice all your half-veiled truths and insinuations that so far guarantee him you are not a normal teen, the least he would expect is for you to do the same. It's polite. Quid pro quo and all that. And you seem very intent on being polite, anyway.]

We can rest assured, then. [In the flatest tone of 'oh we're saved... yay...', even as he casts an almost bored glance at the chaos surrounding them-- not his problem, anyway. At that point, most of the monsters that were writhing in pain on the ground have gone still.]

You know Eli. [It's not a question. He doesn't sound very concerned when he asks:] Have you seen him?

[The fact him knowing Eli goes without saying enough for you to state it all plain and matter of fact, is a complicated feeling for Akechi in as much as he allows himself to get to know anyone. Can't be helped in these circumstances, and all that but all the same... Hm.

He gives your actual question proper consideration regardless, thinking back to his encounters today and the specific lacking presence of Eli as much as he can recall.]

... I can't say that I have. Would he be near here?

[If it is any consolation to you, his concept of knowing someone (specially Eli) is very intense and peculiar. He doensn't mean anything more than you can recognize him enough to help locate him.]

He was covering his shift at the coffee shop. [He nods with a gesture to said shop.] He must have evacuated too, then.

[Damn it. He was hoping he would be easier to find.]

[That certainly makes sense why here and why now, as far as running into you here goes; now he does turn to look around them, not to speak of the monsters but a survey of the surroundings, the shop and the area around them.]

Can't have missed him by much, if that's the case.

[He says, all while wondering how likely it would actually be to miss him just off timing, and not even see Eli near the area at all. But hmm okay. Let's see.]

The ideal exit points are likely through here [--he gestures at a nearby alley narrowed in by vines and the natural foliage of town, with just enough space to pass through hidden... then sweeps his arm out at another more open path opposite the direction of the incoming attacks--] or up along this road, given enough time.

That is, of course... assuming he left from here directly.

... Hm. [He listens to you, taking note of your suggestions, even if at the same time he absentmindedly considers which would be more convenient: to search Eli on his own, or to use that... amulet this land has gifted him to try and communicate with him.

Both would imply a cost. The first one means to lose more time, and probably more energy fighting those monsters. But that lost energy is something he can control more. The second one would save him time, but cost him energy unknown, dependant on the whims of magic.]

It's probable he left from behind. [The first way you pointed out. Eli would have tried to avoid exposing himself by being mauled and then miraculously healing in front of an audience. Even as he says so, he's already walking towards that back alley.]

[Hmm. Well that's hardly a call for Akechi to follow at all, and he'd normally be gladly inclined to fuck off on his own, buuuut. Given what he highly suspects will happen when Victor is no longer in range of all these monsters surrounding the area...

He invites himself after you, letting a sigh out and pushing some leaves hanging down out of the way in the process. Here we go.]

[Well, it must be noted that most of those creatures are probably dead by now. But yes, more of them could definitely follow in their wake, without the pain radiator that Victor is around. So, smart choice, even if Victor doesn't care much for the company.

He notices you follow him, of course. He can feel your nervous charge behind him, and just sighs internally. Seems like he will have to be careful with showing the full extent of his abilities, at least until he gets rid of you.]
