This isn't exactly the New York trip I was expecting, although it's not exactly unprecedented. I think I'll follow the President's lead and use this as an opportunity to take a break, I strongly advise my co-workers to do the same. It will probably be a slightly more productive than complaining about being ten years in the past.

Oh it's nice to be in New York. I did not realize how fun this job was going to be. I mean, it's just so exciting getting an up close look at the presidential race. Of course, I'm a little worried for Obama with the current fear mongering that the Clinton camp is doing, but with the way the primaries have been going, I'm sure he's going to get the nomination. Which will be great...and not just because it means I'll get to keep writing about the campaign. But...right. New York. It really is great to be here. It's been a while.

I really should know better than to talk to my old colleagues from Georgetown. For some reason, I am easily talked into picking up teaching jobs. I’m sure it’s because I’ve missed dealing with a group of difficult individuals who occasionally ignore everything I say.

Starting next week, I’ll be teaching international relations at Columbia University. This is as well as my diplomatic work for the United Nations. I think I can honestly say that I’ve gone back to my workaholic ways.

John, is there anything you want to do for your fortieth birthday? I wouldn’t have mentioned anything but as you declared it in a public forum I figured that it was safe to ask.

There are so many markets here and so many things to choose from. I have not had this much fun in some time, even if it is slightly overwhelming. There has been no medical examination, for which I am very glad.

Happy New Year, everyone.

Here’s hoping that this year is a little bit quieter.
