Portland. Wow. That's... random. Sort of disappointing too. After all that talk about wormholes and crap, I was sort of expecting to end up on the Millennium Falcon or something.

	He's not always diplomatic, even on a good day. From what I've heard, it's going to be a pretty bad year for us. But a fair number of the people that come through the wormhole aren't human, and we haven't been hunting them. Most of them have managed to stay out of trouble, so we haven't had to. Shifter. Chicago is basically run by five monster families. We own the police. The werewolves run the Gold Coast. The Jinn run the south side. Stuff like that. We try to keep the peace. When you guys rolled around, some psycho human had killed my brother, accidentally murdered Ennis's girlfriend who was an innocent bystander, and then he attacked and kidnapped my ex, a werewolf. We found her though but not before he scratched us both up a bit with his silver claws. Ennis shot him.

He said his kid had been the victim of some monster attack. That my brother and Julian Duval, a werewolf, had joined forces to do it. Except my brother and Julian hated each other. My sister swore that it was Julian who killed my brother, Sal, but he couldn't have. The claws were silver.

He wasn't a hunter. He was just a freak who wanted to start a monster war. He almost got his wish too. Violet, my ex, is Julian's sister. Julian would have come after us if something happened to her. He would have ripped Chicago apart.
