Fred knew she had a problem when the matronly librarian came into the computer lab to clear out the last of the folk in it for closing time. Reluctantly she logged off the boards and rose to her feet, shoving her hands forlornly in the pockets of her lab coat as she walked by the woman and towards the front doors.
Angelus was back and running loose in the city of Los Angeles. She didn't even know if it could be called a victory that an apocalypse wasn't taking place at the same time. And he had Cordy. Fred had been heartbroken when the young woman had died. She'd been such a role model to Fred, one of the few people she would ever consider a best friend. And now...
She'd only managed to contact Spike, who ran a different timeline from her, and neither Charles, Wesley, nor Lorne had replied. Whatever happened in the future, she was sure she wasn't going to like it.
Her hand rest on the door for a good minute before an impatient patron forced her go hurrying out onto the concrete steps, crossing her arms tightly over her chest against the cool night air. All around her came the sounds of the city in the night air. Even at the hour it was, the city didn't slow down. Fred walked down the steps, head down, scanning her surroundings.
Her resolve strengthening, she knew what she had to do. Fred located a broken piece of wooden slat to use as a stake. While she could put up a decent fight if there was need, she didn't want to have to. Not right now. She had a mission, to help restore Angel and rescue Cordy. The next step was to find the street signs.
Once she found that, there was only one logical step in the first part of her plan. Follow her feet home.
