Selene is setting up residence in an old cathedral that was bought by Amelia before her death in hopes of turning it into an Opera house. Although in real life St. Vibianas is located in what is called Skid Row, I am going to say that it is in a slightly better part of town. I mean really who would go to the Opera in the ghetto.
The Cathedral of St. Vibiana has been closed since May 1995 because of damage sustained during the 1994 Northridge earthquake. The rundown and neglected cathedral's future was in doubt. That was until several years ago, Amelia made a hefty donation to the Archbishop of Los Angeles and acquired the building. The Elder vampire always did love the Opera and had plans of turning the crumbling church into a theater.
Amelia never opened the doors of the old refurbished church. After restoration had been completed she had met an untimely demise at the hands of Raze. There were few things that Selene could call hers. The control of Ziodex remained in the powerful hands of the board of executives. Humans. Humans the Elders had trusted to be the face of their powerful company. Little did they know that they would not relinquish the hold on the reins.
Still there was some bond there. Some sense of responsibility for the fallen coven of vampires and what remained of it. Enough that they did not leave Selene completely empty handed. Enough money to live and the abandoned church were hers.
Early morning light fell through the archways. Dust motes floated in the rays of light casting an ethereal haze over the main foyer. The seats had never been put in. It was just a large open area, beautiful golden colored wood floors reflected the warm California sun back at her.
Selene loved the way the natural light filled the building. Dropping a heavy black bag, that was nearly bigger then she was, on the ground she walked into the open area. Circling the large open rotunda was a balcony, it’s railing carved in white stone. Doors of the same golden wood lined the walls on the second floor. Two staircases led up to the next floor.
Each door was opened to reveal…nothing. They were all empty, save one. The last and largest room was a studio like apartment. It must have been for the clergy that had once lived here long ago. The room held all the accommodation she needed; a bathroom and a large open area with a bed. Though she would certainly be purchasing new bedding. Selene had no use for a kitchen and was not disappointed that the kitchen that had once been part of the building was long gone.
Hauling her things up to that room she spent the rest of the day settling in. The black curls that brushed past her shoulder blades were pulled into a ponytail. Leaving tiny wisps of sweat dampened hair to stick to her neck. Her latex suit was replaced with loose black linen pants and a black tank top with thin straps clinging to her slender shoulders.
She may be a solider but there was no need to live in filth. If she was going to be here for any length of time it was for her own sanity that she made it comfortable. So, she dusted the cobwebs away, pulled open the fabric draped on the windows upstairs and let the warm air blow in, clearing out the old smell of dust. By the end of the day, as the sun was finally beginning to sink, she was done.
The residents around the old church might notice that tonight, for the first time in years, as the night grew darker, a glow of light was radiating from the once lonely church. </lj>
