Ministry Gala Event!
Characters: OPEN TO ALL. Please tag with your own character(s) when you comment/they arrive.
Setting: The Ministry Atrium, Level 8, beginning at 7 PM and running until midnight
Summary: It's the Halloween ministry gala/party! Come in costume (muggle or otherwise), in elegant wear, or in dress robes. The event begins at 7PM with refreshments, appetizers, finger foods and cocktails. Desserts are served later in the evening, but the cocktails remain available all night long. There is no full dinner, as it would be quite unwieldy with the amount of people expected to attend. The dance floor is open, a live band is playing, and the atmosphere is almost aggressively pleasant. For safety reasons, wands are being checked (surrendered) at the entrances. Unless your character is on-duty at the party, he or she will not have her wand on his/her person after entering.
Rating: Let's go with R for now, as there will be some dark occurrences later in the evening. We will update as necessary.

The event coordinators at the Ministry of Magic were in fine form in the hours leading up to the start of the gala. Everything had to be perfect, and not just in appearances. The atrium had been decorated in gold and silver, slightly reflective, to capture light and brighten the large, spacious room. The band was in place by 6:30, playing quiet music that set the mood. Off to either side, slightly out of the way, were two cocktail tables, fully stocked. There was also a number of wait staff who would be walking around with trays of red or white wine as well as champagne.

The attention to the decor was due to the head events coordinator, one Ismay Plimpton, who was an absolute perfectionist. With attention down to the very last detail, she was very nearly driving the Minister mad with her questions and comments, not to mention crucial changes. Her voice and general looks had Kingsley Shacklebolt nearly thinking her related to Delores Umbridge, if Ismay weren't so remarkably pleasant and likable.

With his assurance that everything was just fine, Ismay hurried off, gently but firmly reprimanding some poor chap setting candles afloat too low for her liking. The ceiling above twinkled like night stars, and between that, the candles, and the reflective decorations, the room was perfectly lit.

Everything was ready. All they needed now were the guests.

Ernie typically did not notice intonations like the one Hannah just used, and therefore didn't continue to focus on this. "I don't think I've seen her in awhile," he commented. Besides Hannah, Justin and the folks he'd see at work, he hasn't really seen most folks from back in the day more recently (all due to his work schedule, of course).

"Did you want to have something to eat or drink?" he asked, noticing that the tables he had seen during set-up were now rather crowded around, but still piled high with finger foods. He was, admittedly rather hungry due to his being in a rush to leave work. It was quite fortunate that Justin whisked him off to lunch as he probably wouldn't have taken time to have a lunch to begin with. He was rather fortunate that Justin had shown up or else he probably would've never had his work done.

For once Hannah was relieved that Ernie didn't catch simple things like a change of voice. "Perhaps we can have a get together soon," Hannah liked that idea. It had been too long since several of her friends were in the same place at the same time.

Hannah had been looking around the room at all the wonderful decorations. The food looked delicious. She had thought to grab up a cucumber sandwich when a waiter walked past earlier with a tray. However, she knew that it was quite likely that Ern would be rather hungry seeing as he always skipped meals when he was focused on work. "The cucumber sandwich bites look absolutely divine," she stated as she thread her arm around his so he could either lead her toward the tables or to one of the several waiters walking around with trays in hand.

Ernie wasn't a huge fan of cucumber sandwiches--regardless of how they looked, and as such had led her to a table so that they had a wider selection of food. And partially since Ern would likely just pick away at whatever was there to make up for a lost dinner. He wished that it was feasible to have a dinner at such a large event, but he knew that despite the vastness of the room, the atrium wasn't large enough for such a thing with this many people. Upon noticing how many people there actually were, he wondered how security was holding up. The people didn't seem particularly unruly, at least.

He handed her a plate before picking up one for himself, and choosing a few items that he recognized. He had spoken to Ms. Plimpton prior to the event, and in exchange for being a right pain in the rear end with extensive requests about the security that his group was to provide, she alerted him to some of the details of the event. Things that he mustn't miss. "You probably should try one of these," Ernie pointed out the miniature spinach and cheese quiches. "Ms. Plimpton said that they were one of her favourite things on the menu this evening."

Cucumber sandwiches weren't necessarily Hannah's favorite for the palate, they were more of a memory food. Her mother used to make them for every holiday with her father's side of the family. It was something simple that her Grandmother couldn't figure out how to criticize. So, as they walked past a waiter with a tray of them, she reached up and took one as Ernie led her toward the stocked table.

Hannah graciously took the plate Ernie offered. She watched as he grabbed a little bit of everything available. She followed suit and took a few items that looked tasty including one of the quiches that Ernie had pointed out to her. "The Ministry has really outdone themselves," she commented just before taking a bite from her plate. "Everything seems to be running very smoothly."

"Yeah they have," Ernie had agreed, quite pleased, after already having loaded up his plate and having a few bites. It was certainly a relief that things were going alright, given that there was a lot of concern regarding the logistics.

For the first time this evening he was really given a breather, a time to step back and enjoy things as they were. He knew that things were going to be chaotic the next day, what with the parole of those convicted from the war. But he decided against focussing on that now. For now he'll just focus on the more enjoyable present.
