Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Entry tags:!status: incomplete, ^date: november 18 2003, character: angelina johnson, character: percy weasley

Who: Percy, Open to Weasleys (by birth or by affiliation)
What: Coming to grips with the news about Charlie
Where: The Burrow
When: November 18, 7pm
Rating: Bad language, etc.

Percy stood outside the Burrow's back door where he could still hear the clinking of pots and pans in the kitchen as Molly busied herself with dishes to stop herself from collapsing in grief. Everyone in the family had been contacted once St. Mungo's had been able to identify the body found in the charred wreckage of the Hogsmeade quidditch stands.

Percy, however, still could not believe the news. How could Charlie be dead? Charlie who had taught Percy how to fly a broom, who had taken him swimming in the summer when they were young, who had helped during Percy's first year of Hogwarts when he had been warring between loving independence and missing home.

He leaned against the house's shingles, feeling numb inside. He wanted a glass of firewhiskey - Merlin, he wanted a whole bloody bottle - to help him deal. His only solace was that he hadn't been there to see Charlie die.

George sensed her as she came closer to him, and he felt relieved and embarrassed at the same time. He was a wreck, a mess, and knew it was all over his face, how destroyed he was feeling. He wasn't sure he was capable of words, or any sound of any sort. But when she laid down next to him in the grass and spoke, it was more comforting than anything he could have thought of. Another tear escaped him, and he reached over and took her hand, but didn't move his eyes from the sky. He felt a bit guilty, because his brother had just died, but all he could think of was Fred, and how he had felt right after and the three years that followed.

He wanted to say something, but he didn't know what. "Thanks for coming," he said in a very rough voice, but it was all he could really think of. He hoped that in those words she could hear how much it meant to him, how badly he needed her there, and how grateful he was that she had come. He reached his free hand up and quickly brushed away the tears, not wanting her to see how close he was to falling back into that pit of dispair, because he didn't want to go back there.
