Who: Justin & Eli
What: More library fun - this time, satisfying an adolescent curiosity
Where: Hogwarts Library
When: November 13, 9:30 AM
Rating: PGish (just some language, no sex for once!)

Justin had felt bad about not doing much more research for Anthony due to the invasion, so much so that he returned to Hogwarts to beg Madame Pince to let him use the library. She'd given him a roll of the eyes - apparently, she hadn't forgotten that time she'd caught him and Colin having a gorgeous snog in the Astronomy section - and had waved him in with a warning not to take any books out of the library.

He'd made good use of his time, looking up several books and, upon discovering something of interest, performed a copying charm to take the information down on some blank paper he'd brought with him. He was on his way to return one of the books and get another when his eyes caught sight of the Restricted Section.

Ever since first year, he'd wondered what exactly was contained within that small area. Some thought there were manuals on the dark arts, others that there was some sort of other powerful knowledge that had to be kept under wraps. Justin, however, had always believed there to be some sort of wizard equivalent to the kama sutra that was hidden well within those shelves.

Unlike when he was younger, he was an adult now, and there was nothing keeping him from entering the Restricted Section. With a wicked grin, and completely forgetting about the book he'd been about to retrieve, he detoured to his new destination.

The scent of old, dust-covered books made him sneeze and he was immediately tempted to leave, but he kept on, the thought of the prize he might find being an excellent incentive. He started at the nearest shelf and trailed a finger along the book spines, browsing over titles to see if he could find something that would pique his interest.

"Maybe I am the authorities," he said rather than actually answering the question. Eli never would leave the fate of anything in the hands of the Ministry, certainly not the Department of Magical Law Enforcement. And to some extent his actions could consider him the authorities, he might not be out in the field, but he could help figure things out for those people.

"And I don't have any mother or brother to compromise me emotionally." Even with Samara having nightmares too, Eli wasn't any less rational than he would be otherwise.

"Well, if you're the authorities, you know you're not seers, so if someone's in trouble and can't call you, there's no way for you to get to them. Even if we can come up with something like a sneakoscope to at least warn of danger before it's too late, that'll make all the difference in the world. And at least we'll have tried."

He snorted at the comment about being compromised. "You obviously don't know me, or else you'd know I'm always compromised by my emotions. I don't call it being compromised, though - I call it being human. My emotions are who I am, so I own them - that way they don't own me. Most of the time, anyway."

He looked meaningfully at the book the bloke had been fingering through. "So, is there something useful in there?"

That sort of comment just made Eli want to do all sorts of tests on this man. Constantly compromised by emotion - the things he would be able to observe or tinker with. It wasn't exactly the sort of thing you could ask a person, let alone a complete stranger. Well, at least not without the commitment to go through with it and right now it was just a passing thought.

"That all depends on you now, doesn't it?" He handed the book to the man, not immediately giving any sort of explanation. The page was filled with all sorts of runic spells that could be combined in a way to create a sort of messaging system that when applied correctly could be as discrete or as conspicuous as the user wanted. More importantly once the runes were cast, it didn't take much magic to support it afterward.

Justin took the book and looked at the page, feeling as if he'd been handed something in another language. Unforunately, the only other language he knew was French, so there was no help there. His eyes searched the page, trying to find something in English to indicate what the hell he was looking at. He caught the word message somewhere and figured it had something to do with what they wanted to accomplish.

"So, runes can send messages, huh?" He'd never taken the class, so he had no idea. "I can copy the chapter and give it to Anthony - he should be able to figure it out."

He looked up and smiled at the bloke. "Thanks."

"Well, not exactly, but they can create a means to." Eli could have easily gone into the theory as to exactly what they did or how they worked, but it would have been lost on this man and really he did have his own issues to deal with. It was probably best that this man was going to share the information with his smarter friend. Except it would be interesting to watch him struggle. And even see just what he might come up with.

"Runic magic is actually quite useful, but often overlooked." People preferred the flourish of wands and spells. While that was all well and fine, Eli had always needed more substance. "But that is probably a good place to start."

"I'm sure in the right hands it can be pretty useful," Justin extended, "but in this case, it really is over my head. I'm sure my friend will get something out of it, though."

He offered his hand for a proper shake. "Name's Justin Finch-Fletchley. I'm always one to return a kindness, so owl me if you ever need help with something I can help with. Which, honestly, usually involves a listening ear, the Muggle world, on occasion fine wine, and sexual favours."

A name, that was good. Helpful even should he want to come back to this one. Eli fixed his face into a sort of polite smile. "Well, then I suppose I pointed you in the right direction at the very lease," he said taking the hand in turn. "I'm Eli Chambers." He didn't address the sexual favors comment because it was easier to ignore it, so he could get on with his visit.

"And if you're all set here, I should just get going." He did still need to get the books he wanted and eventually make it back to the office. Today was a day that he couldn't work late because he had plans with Samara for the evening. And truly he could use a night out which might include wine and sexual favors that he actually wanted.

"Oh yeah, by all means go back to what you were doing. I'm sorry I interrupted you. And really, thanks again," he added with a grin.

He hoped he ended up copying the right pages from the book if it was to be any help, but even if he at least had the book right, Anthony could still find it if he needed to read up any further. Justin was rather pleased with himself - he'd met a possible new friend, and had made himself useful.
