dumbledore's army, unite!
Characters: Dumbledore's Army
Setting: Rook Cottage, 8 November 2003, 6:30pm
Rating: PG, for dark theme discussion and a little violence
Summary: Time to bring back the ole DA gang for a little mystery solving action!

Michael felt a bit nervous for this meeting, maybe because he'd been arranging things for it in the journals so he was sort of the person people were looking to to have all the information now and he hadn't exactly meant for that to be the case. Especially when he had absolutely no information at all concerning these 'nightmares.' Except that he did now have all of Lavender's information, which was bad enough, because he didn't know all that much about it yet he was supposed to tell everyone about what she'd uncovered during the meeting. Why had he volunteered to present it for her again? Oh yeah, because he was too sodding nice, that's why.

Once everyone had arrived and finished their initial 'hello's' and 'how do you do's' and so on, they settled down in Luna's slightly too small living space with quite a fair amount of snacks and drinks to last through the night if need be. If this amount was going to show up each time (if they were going to have more meetings like this) they might need to find a slightly larger place to hold them, because Luna apparently had not expected so many people to attend. It may not have been the original DA, but it was a good number of them. Everyone seemed to look toward Michael at this point which made him uncomfortable to say the least. He'd never been the leader of anything before and while he didn't mind being the center of attention, in this situation he didn't feel like he had enough information or experience with these 'nightmares' to really be at the helm. Hopefully they were just thinking of him as the secretary and not the leader so with this in mind, he cleared his throat and said, "Well alright. I suppose I call this first renewed Dumbledore's Army meeting into order. We should probably get started."

Ron laughed a bit harshly. "You might not care, but they certainly will. Ernie is going to care." He sighed, shaking his head. "This whole thing is just shite. I'm tired, I'm ready to be done with it all but there's so much left we have to do. Why have we always got to do everything?"

He probably wasn't making any sense, but he wasn't exactly trying to. He really was quite tired. So far he'd spent seven years of his life chasing after the biggest, scariest wizard there was and he'd only had five years to truly be free of it all and now it was all happening again.

Hermione felt a bit of anger stirred at his laugh and his words. "Screw what they think," she said a bit louder than she meant to, and completely out of character with her normal self. "Ron, when are you going to get that you are the most important person to me? I don't care what anyone else thinks or if they want me to come back, or if they've moved on without me, I don't care!" One way or another she was going to make sure he got this.

"It's not fair that we have to do this, not in the least, not after everything we've already had to do, but no one has as much experience with this kind of shite than we do, and unfortunately that means we're stuck doing it, but Ron I can't... I can't do this alone. I can't do this without you, I know that's unfair, but it's true."

Ron finally turned to look at her, a bit of indignation on his face. "It's not just about what you think of me, Hermione. I do care what others think of me too. You might not care, but I do. And I've been a bloody idiot this entire week so I'll be sodding lucky if half of them still like me when this is all done. I just punched Ernie in the face and from what most people could see, it was for no bloody reason. It's not the best way to make friends, especially not when we're supposed to be working together."

He sighed. "I know. And if you need to go to the Department of Mysteries then you should do it, but you don't need Ernie to look after you, for Merlin's sake. I've had more training than he has." Ron gave her a look, which may have given away part of the reason he'd gotten so angry back in the the meeting. "The two of us aren't the only ones that will be working on this, though. It's not you, Harry and I against the world anymore, Hermione. We've got the DA to help us and we will need their help on this, especially since they've done plenty already. So don't act like I'm the only one who can help you out because I'm not, but I will be there to protect you, so just make sure you are careful once you get in there, okay?"

As much as Hermione hated stoking his temper like this, she figured he probably needed to get it all out, so it was a good thing. "They don't think you did it for no reason, they know what's going on, how pissed you've been, they'll get over it. It wouldn't hurt to go back in and explain, though, if you care about what they think." she looked at him just as seriously, not backing down. "The point of friends is that they forgive you, even if you've done something ridiculous."

"You know I wouldn't if it wasn't important, but what other person could easily get in there quickly? I promise as soon as this is behind us I'll leave again, I won't stay longer than I need to, but I'm glad you understand." she crossed her arms again and never let her eyes leave his face. "You're right, we're not alone in this, but we're still key players. Besides, I don't trust anyone nearly as much as I trust you, and I am not going to depend on Ernie to keep me safe, he's just trying to help. We do need all the help we can get."

He shrugged. "I'll talk to Ernie after. They need to get things done, not worry about how stupid I've been. I already interrupted things enough as it is. The whole point of this meeting is that we get somewhere with this nightmare shite and now I've caused a spectacle."

Ron shook his head. "You don't have to leave if you don't want to, Hermione. Honestly, I'm not that worried about you being in there; I know you can handle yourself. Besides, it's not like you haven't done before without my help. But if you need it, just make sure you let me know." Ron touched her chin with his thumb. It had been a while since he'd done this, but he still found it just as wonderful each time. Ron leaned forward and pressed his lips to hers, relishing in the feel of the brush of their lips against one another. He twined his fingers in her hair, pulling her closer to him as he did.

Hermione didn't push the situation, perfectly satisfied with that answer and already feeling better and less worried about him. Clearly he regretted what he'd done, even if she didnt fully understand why he'd done it, other than the exorbitant amount of stress he'd been under. She didn't blame him, she hoped the others would understand too, but like she'd said, they were friends, they would forgive him. She was fairly confident on that.

"I just want to do something helpful, and I can't where I am right now. Maybe I'll like that department, maybe I won't, I guess I'll make that decision when I get to it. But I promise if I need any help, you're the first person I'll go to." She raised her face to him when he touched her chin and a small smile played across her face. When he kissed her, she kissed him back, butterflies in her stomach. She loved him, and this was a moment she had needed more than she realized. Mione wrapped her arms around his middle so she could lean into him and the kiss, feeling safer in that moment than she had since the nightmares started.

Ron didn't want to let her go, didn't want it to end, but he knew that this wasn't exactly the time or the place for this. They were supposed to be inside, helping the rest and he didn't want to be the useless Auror who had nothing to contribute to the meeting. So he pulled back, rested his head against her forehead and sighed. "I love you, Hermione. There may be a lot of things going on in the world I don't know at the moment but I do know that for certain. I hope you know that."

He smiled a bit lopsidedly at her and rubbed her cheek gently, then kissed the top of her head. "We should go back in, yeah?"

Hermione didn't want that moment to end either. It was the first time things had felt a bit more normal in a long time, and it felt great. She smiled broadly when he said he loved her. She did know, but she never grew tired of hearing him say it, after waiting seven years to hear anything. "I love you too," she said, closing her eyes and leaning her forehead against his, holding him tightly. "More than anything, and I know, it's all that's keeping me going still."

She didn't really want to go back inside, but he was right. She nuzzled her head into his neck and held on for just another few moments before pulling away a bit. "Yea, you're right, let's go." She let go of him and took his hand, pulling him back towards the meeting.
