Shopping trip, of the sports variety
Characters: Angelina Johnson and OPEN
Setting: Diagon Alley (specifically anywhere between Quality Quidditch Supplies [#26] and Whizz Hard Books [#38] which is a lot of area to run into her), November 4th around 3 pm
Summary: Angie gets out to go shopping, her way.
Rating: Probably work safe

Angie didn't know about anyone else, but she needed to get out of the house. Unfortunately as it wasn't late enough to head to a pub and get completely pissed, she decided to distract herself another way: shopping, but thankfully not for a dress. She didn't really need new Quidditch supplies, but she wouldn't turn them down. Some of her gear was running a bit threadbare on padding, and she'd heard Quality Quidditch supplies had gotten in a new line of goggles that sharpened vision in inclement weather. Though she didn't often read much, she had the desire to sop into Whizz Hard books and see if they had any new biographies of sports legends. Might as well do both at once.

Angie got dressed, noticing only afterwards that lately she'd been wearing neutrals as opposed to her brighter louder colors. Instead of red or jewel tones, she was beige jeans and a olive top. If she were more overly concerned with fashion and mood she might have changed, forced herself to wear something brighter to help pick up her spirits, but she figured who cared? Besides, she'd just attend the funeral of the wizarding world's hero yesterday. She was allowed to not be bright and happy.

She Apparated to Diagon Alley with her usually loud crack of sound, Angie appeared somewhere between the two stores, debating which one to hit up first.

Michael shoved his hands into his jean pockets as he walked down the streets of Diagon Alley with no particular destination in mind. He was not due to work until later that evening and this was usually the time he went out and got groceries or other necessities if he was working the night shift. Though he didn't really feel like doing anything productive today. Harry's funeral had not been easy to attend, though he would not have missed it for anything.

Michael was just considering apparating to the forest and taking a run as a wolf when he spotted Angelina Johnson. He had seen her in the Leaky Cauldron quite a few times and he had since started following her team to see how they did. He supported the Wimbourne Wasps of course, but she needn't know that.

Michael moved toward her and made an overly dramatic bow in front of her. "Ms. Johnson, are you headed to Leaky? You know I'm not working at the mo, so really there is no reason to." He gave her a wide grin and then added, "You're looking quite lovely. Are you having a pleasant day so far?"

Angie had just decided to try Quality Quidditch Supplies first when she heard her name being called. She turned to find a familiar face went with it. "Why Michael Corner. Almost didn't recognise you outside the Leaky," she teased. "I'm not headed that way just yet. Bit of shopping to do first, but I'll be in later. Will you be on shift tonight?"

She grinned at his bow, but more so at his own smile. It was infectious. "Well if you're not on shift now, what are you up to?" If he wasn't busy, Angie certainly wouldn't mind the company.

Michael smirked at that. "No, most people don't recognise me on the outside. It's the curse of being a fantastic bartender, I think. They don't believe I belong anywhere else!" With a nod he replied, "Yes, Tom has me slaving away this evening."

"I am wandering around aimlessly, looking for the meaning of my existence in one of these shops. If it's there - and at a fair price - I might just have to take a gamble on it. Although I have enjoyed the mystery so far..." he pretended to look thoughtful, as if this was truly a conundrum with which he spent ample amounts of time thinking on. Then with a grin, Michael held out the crook of his elbow. "Are you in need of an escort on this adventurous shopping trip, Ms. Angelina? I would certainly be happy to fill in the role."

Angie laughed and slipped her arm right into Michael's. "I suppose I understand that. I've had a few people have the same reaction to seeing me off the pitch. Though some of them out to be used to seeing me out of my robes," she added with a mischievous grin. "So if you're on shift, I'llbe sure to come by."

She gestured with her free hand toward the general direction of Quality Quidditch Supplies. "I was thinking of looking for some new equipment. New impervious goggles would be nice, and I could certainly use an escort."

Michael raised his eyebrows with a smirk. "I'm used to seeing you out of your robes...while you're in the Leaky, of course, in other clothing."

He bounced on the balls of his feet at that. "Quidditch shopping, brill! My favourite! If only I had been blessed with the skills of an athlete like yourself, I could be up on a broom too," he spoke wistfully, looking up into the air. "So how has your day been so far, love?" he asked, steering her toward the Quality Quidditch Supplies storefront.

Angie laughed. "Of course. What else could I have possibly meant?" She sidestepped a gaggle a people loitering in the street and smiled at Micheal's enthusiasm. "My favorite kind too. I warn you, I could very easily spend hours and far too many galleons in there. You might have to drag me out, kicking and screaming."

The shop in question boasted a new influx of brooms, broomstick servicing kits on sale, and of course, the brand new impervious googles Angie had mentioned. she pressed her free hand dramatically to her chest. "If I wore pearls I'd be clutching them right now," she declared.

"No worries there, I doubt I'll want to leave anytime soon either. Not that I've much use for it all, but I am brilliant with the moral support." Michael could hold his own in a casual match, sure, but he never could make the house team or any other team at that.

Michael eyed the brooms in the shop as the entered. He did still enjoy flying from time to time, but ever since he had become an animagus, running as a wolf had become a new pleasure for him he hadn't known he'd enjoy quite so much. "Why Miss Angelina, I do declare, they are quite magnificent!" he said in a terrible accent that was both British and southern country at the same time. "You best try them on to make certain they are as brilliant as they look!"

"Brilliant," she beamed. "Now that's the kind of hours-long shopping I don't mind at all. Lock me in a quidditch shop all day, I'll be fine. Expect me to do the same with dresses or shoes and I'll be completely nutters by the end of the day." Angie's eyes went immediately to the new brooms, even though that wasn't at all what she'd come in to purchase. But it couldn't hurt to look.

"Good, I might need it," she replied, staring at the brand new model Aeroforce 10. The Aeroforce was a broom series designed more for Chasers than Seekers, a beautiful set of brooms that combined speed with power. Some Beaters favored Aeroforces, the ones who refused to sacrifice speed for a strong broom. The Aero was both and the newest model was begging for Angie to at the very least touch it. "Well I hadn't been in the market for a new broom, but I may have to reconsider that," she said with clear reverence.

She looked up at her terrible accident. "Michael that accent was godawful," she laughed. "But you've a point."

"Well, there's nothing wrong with having a peek, now is there? Or you could always get both! Now that would be the best compromise in my book!" He grinned, whistling at all the latest models. He hadn't meant to pull her off track, but he had always been a fan of brooms. He had had a Cleansweep during his years at Hogwarts, not that he used it for much other than recreation.

"You stay here with the brooms, I'll get the goggles and you can try them both out at the same time! Get the full effect, eh? Then you'll know for certain if the goggles are really worth it!" Michael went over and grabbed a pair of the display goggles, paying no mind to the store clerk who eyed him uneasily, obviously thinking he was attempting to walk out of the store with them. He brought them over to Angelina and handed them to her, smiling. "Goggles, check. Now broom. Which one?"

Angie tore her eyes away from the broom long enough to glance at Michael. "Best compromise? Not for my purse, you know," she teased. But it was sorely tempting. She waited for him to run off and the return with goggles in hand. Laughing she tugged them on and reached for the broom. Mounting it swiftly she hovered only a foot or so off the ground, testing the balance of the broom. But what she really wanted to do was test its speed and maneuverability. She noticed the store clerk watching them and actually waved him over.

"Look, I'm interested in this broom yeah? But I'd like to really give 'er a go then. Can I test her out?" Angie defaulted to calling brooms 'her' like her dad did with automobiles. She glanced at Michael. "Someone drew my attention to it so I'd better have a good look."

"Purse smurse. Are you a famous Quidditch player or not? You should be rolling in the galleons at this point! Blokes and birds throwing themselves at you at every match, wishing they could be with—and be the amazing Angelina Johnson on the Holyhead Harpies! I've seen it!" He grinned stupidly at her, watching her try out the items. He was genuinely excited by this, relishing in the idea of being on the pitch himself, not that he ever would be, but oh the thought!

Michael looked innocent when Angelina pointed him out as the culprit for pointing out the brooms. All he'd really done is take a look at them, honestly! He was about to say so but the store clerk was looking fidgety and said, "That's not really our policy here. I'll have to g-get the manager." He ran off as quickly as he could, much too uncomfortable for this situation.

"Oh, look at you, causing trouble in the store already! This aught to be good!" Michael watched the door to which the store clerk had vanished through and saw him return again with a woman who must be the manager he spoke of. When they approached he saw that she was actually the owner, according to her badge which read "Jacqueline Lejeune" for her name.

Angie had to laugh at that. "Remind me never to put you anywhere near in charge of my finances yeah? You're worse than I am!" She was excited as he was though, and now she had the broom in her hands, she'd little intention of letting it go. The poor clerk however seemed at a loss and ran off to get a manager. Not to worry. Angie was certain she could wheedle a test drive.

She needn't have worried. Once the manager came by he did a quick double-take, and grinned broadly. "Why Ms Johnson, certainly, let's see what we can do. We've got a place out back where we test some of the stock, make sure everything's running as it should. Perhaps you'd like to take the broom back there?"

Angie grinned at Michael, Sometimes it paid to be recognised. "Thanks that's be brilliant. "Come on, Michael, you've got to tell me how I look on this thing." Following the manager out to the back area, Angie gripped the broom with increasing excitement. If fact, the second they were all clear, she hopped on and kicked off, laughing at the speed and maneuverability.

"Of course, we wouldn't want you looking shoddy out there on the pitch, now would we?" he laughed, shaking his head at her as they walked out the back of the shop, amused that the owner had allowed them to do this.

It had been quite a while since Michael had been up on a broom. Sometimes he wished his animagus form had been a type of bird, but you get what you get, he supposed. He really did need to go flying again sometime, though, as he did quite enjoy it, even if he wasn't doing it for sport. It was an exhilarating feeling and he could almost feel it himself just by watching Angelina as she tested the broom. Even if she didn't buy the broom, it would at least be worth trying it out and she could see if the goggles fit well while up there too.

True to form, Angie had gotten so excited about the broom, she'd forgotten the goggles. It took her a few loops around her laughter ringing, before she swooped back down towards Michael. The broom was incredible. It responded quickly, with amazing maneuverability, great speed and she was actually surprised by the power behind it. She pulled up short in front of Michale and almost breathlessly responded, "I may have to have this broom straightaway. Let me have those goggles? Might as well remember the real reason I came yet?"

Before she took off again those, she grinned at him. "How did I look up there?" Angelina asked archly, though she suspected what Michael's answer might be.

Michael put a hand on his hip when she flew back down and shrugged nonchalantly at her. "Well I mean, if I'm to be quite honest, Angelina, you look a bit sloppy. Your form could use some shaping up and you've got to work on those turns if you ever hope to get past those other chasers and beaters. Honestly, love!" As he continued to speak, his smile got wider and he had more and more trouble keeping a straight face until he was laughing uncontrollably.

He was doubled over for a bit and had to catch his breath before he could say, "Okay, okay I'm just joking. You look brilliant, love, honestly. Here, take these and go." He handed her the goggles.

Angie crossed her eyes at Michael and reached out to give him a none-too-gentle shove. She'd known he'd tease her, but he couldn't even make it through with a straight face. Laughing, she took the goggles, as the manager and clerk watched, and then launched herself back up.

By the time she came back down, she was grinning broadly, looking exhilarated and had decided on both the broom and the goggles. "Well that settles it. I'll be getting both." She smiled at the staff. "Thanks for that. I'll get these rung up, yeah?" She shook her head at Michael. "I blame you for this."

Michael smiled innocently at her. "I really don't know what you're talking about, Angie. I haven't done anything! I've been a most charming escort, watching your every move while you shop and you have found your goggles which is what you came for, yeah? Really, love, you should be thrilled that you found something else besides! It's like you've given yourself a present that I helped you pick out."

He leaned over and put his arm around her shoulders, leading her back into the store. "Anything else you want to look at?" he asked with a smirk.

She swatted him with her broom and let him steer her back in. "Of course, what was I thinking? A perfect gentleman." She threw a look at him. "Anything else? Are you mad? I certainly don't need to indulge in any more presents today," she scoffed.

She gestured toward the register. Let's just let me buy these and then you can treat me to a spot of tea. Perhaps then I'll be nice enough to stop by during your shift tonight to brighten your evening." She started for the register, ready to get out before she purchased anything else she didn't truly need.

Michael laughed. "I may be a bit mad at times. I've been told so. But I am definitely a perfect gentleman." He grinned as they walked toward the register for her to buy her items.

"Tea, eh? I suppose I can do you for some tea, love. It's the least I can do for helping you find such a perfect broom. Though I feel as though you should be treating me for helping you out, yeah?" He smirked and waited in line next to her as she paid for her items. It's not as if she wouldn't put them to good use.

Angie couldn't really argue with Michael. She wanted that broom, even if she hadn't come in for it, and it wasn't going to set her back too far, even if it was a bit of a splurge.

But that didn't mean she wouldn't try. "Yes, you've helped me out of a far too heavy wallet, is that it? I can do the same for you if you like," she teased. Forgotten was the bookstore, as she now intended on having tea. She paid for the broom - which certainly cost a fair few galleons, enough to make her wince slightly, but it was well worth it. The goggles were negligible in comparison. "All right let's be off. You can tell me what you've been up to of late and I can cure my hankering for an apple tart."

Michael offered her his arm again as they exited the store and laughed. "We aren't all famous like you, love. My wallet isn't so heavy to begin with, so there's no need to worry about lightening the load. But I'll see if I can't help you with that apple tart craving."

He lead her off down the street toward a cafe, catching her up on his past few days. It was easy to ignore the loom of the nightmares when you weren't actually having them, but he knew that it wasn't something he could continue to ignore for very much longer and this delightful reprieve would not last forever.
