RP: Official Party
Who: Everyone
Where: Military CO's home
When: Friday, April 8, 2011
Summary: After the visit, it's time to party, or pretend to

The visit had gone as well as expected. They all knew that official visits only showed you what they wanted you to show, and that was exacty what Leon had done. He hadn't even shown them the best and brightest, too afraid that they would be too afraid if they saw some of what they had accomplished in three months. No, it was a juggling act between not showing too much, but showing enough progress to justify the current budgetary expenses. All in all, Leon was confident that they had done an okay job.

That left them with the party. A few more hours to go and they'd be free. The party was held at the CO's home. All top officers were present. Unlike the usual parties, spouses were missing. He was sure that no one was pleased with that, but they couldn't allow civilians in a base like this. That meant that almost everyone present was in uniform, except for the ICIS employees.

Hetty had done a great job, especially considering the short time they had. Everyone looked impeccable. Now, if their words would be as impeccable, they'd make it through the night unscathed.

Savannah had been nervous all day. The visit itself hadn't been bad. As long as she focused on what work they were given, it was fine. No, the party was what unnerved her. She had no idea what people wore at these event, and she had picked a few gowns that she likes, and then let Hetty pick a red, flowing gown, which was beautiful, but she was terrified to trip of its hem and fall down. However that fear forced her to stand up tall, which help with all of that posture thing that Hetty talked about. It didn't help that the bracelet and ring she was given to wear cost as much as the budget of a small country, and that combined with the dress, if she ruined the dress or lost the jewelry, she'd have to sell her soul. At least she had no necklace because it distracted from the design. If she had to deal with a necklace too that cost as much as a SAM, she'd have a heart attack (and Sam would have preferred the missile anyway).

With all of that in her mind, talking too much was a real possibility, because she rambled when nervous, so she had to watch that too, and Marty wasn't around, although he looked amazing, and she couldn't even kiss him. At least G was around, and she planned to spend as much time as possible with him, because talking to all of these people with these uniform was not her idea of fun. She liked the enlisted soldiers much better. They were lots of fun.

Kensi was enjoying herself even if she was on edge. Hetty had surpassed herself once again, dressing everybody beautifully in clothes that had cost a fortune ... Kensi had found it was best not to ask how she managed to spirit away the clothes they had; Hetty just had a knack for it.

She was wearing a beautiful strapless gown and half-wanted to keep it afterwards. It was gorgeous and it was still loose enough for her to move around in it. Kensi hated wearing a dress that was too tight to move in; you never knew when something would happen.

"Hey, how are you?" she asked as she found herself next to Savannah. "You look lovely in that color by the way. Hetty's a genius at this sort of thing."

Savannah smiled at Kensi. "Hi. I'm good and you?" she asked, although she wasn't sure how to act around her. She didn't like tension, but she liked this coldness even less. She just wasn't used to it and tended to go overboard.

"Thank you. It's really pretty, isn't it? There were so many I liked and then I gave up and told Hetty to pick among them, because I couldn't decide." That and she wasn't sure which one was more appropriate for the event.

"So how are you settling into the house? It must be different having so many people around." She had felt it when she moved out of her house. "When I transferred to Lancer, I moved to Cheer Town, that's where all the cheerleaders stay, and it was strange to live with so many people, but after a while, you get used to it."

Not bad although wishing I wasn't here. I don't like feeling on display, you know?" Kensi had a feeling they would be on some kind of alert after this though she couldn't be sure - She'd find out from Morgan if they were but would be prepared just in case.

"I just let Hetty decide now. She's been dressing me for years and always puts me in something gorgeous yet practical," Kensi smiled. "Her fashion sense is impeccable. Or it is for this job - Nobody but her ever seems to consider that you need to be able to move as well as look good, especially undercover."

"It's different," she agreed with a laugh. "I'm not used to it but everyone's friendly. Too friendly really, it's kinda weird. I'm used to Callen and sarcasm. But I'm getting there. I think our team has real potential to work together well."

"I think that's pretty much everyone. Well maybe not Brian. He's been
going on and on about tonight," she said, laughing. "He's warned me about a million times that I can't hug people or offer them sweat tea. Like I didn't know. Really people see cheerleader and think idiots," she said, rolling her eyes. "However, I get my revenge my way. You should have seen his face when I asked if I could ask the Secretary if he wanted to come home for pecan pie."

Savannah snorted, thinking back to the one time they had done that. "That doesn't work for us. The first time we tried it, G had some input and that turned into a minor war. The second time, I went along and she had all of these crazy things. So yeah, we went for something else this time." She looked at her feet and hand. "There's nothing practical about these shoes or the value of my jewelry, unless you want to cut someone's face with the ring."

She nodded. "I assumed. I worked with Derek once and we speak and ... yes, he's the opposite of G." She chuckled. "Funny you'd say that. I think G hates it when I'm sarcastic, at least if I'm talking to him." She looked at Kensi smiling. "Maybe it's good for you, get a chance to do things a little more relaxed, and we can get him and Sam to relax as well." She found G with her eyes, and her smile warmed up. "He should have more than work."

"Mmhmm I could see why that would give him a heart attack," she said with a grin. She didn't know Brian too well despite them being in close quarters but she'd gathered enough from the few run-in's she had had with him. "What was his answer, just out of curiosity? A plain no or something more descriptive?"

"Well no but it's easy enough to move in or conceal weapons under which is all I'm interested in. Heels can be discarded easily enough," She shrugged. "I rarely think of clothes save for their usefulness in either undercover or day to day. They can be pretty, sure, but mostly they've got to let me do my job," she said, fingering the necklace she was wearing. "I'm weird that way, I think. Some female agents dress up a lot more but I'd rather be comfortable."

"Complete opposite. He actually answers questions," Kensi shook her head again. "That's going to take some getting used to but we're getting there slowly. Mostly, I wonder what the hell is going on and pinch myself occasionally."

"He should but the Callen I know doesn't," She followed Savannah's line of vision and smiled slightly. "You've been a big influence on all three of the men here, haven't you?"

Dom/?

Dom remembered the parties on posts when the stars arrived and there were more medals in a room than you could count. Not that he had ever gone to those parties. Children and teenagers were not invited or wanted, but he remembered the tension that started the day before and didn't end until the top generals left the post. This felt exactly the same, and finally he knew what his father must have felt like. It was not fun.

Hetty had dressed them in the finest tuxes, in different styles, and he was willing to bet, different designers as well, not that he had asked. He'd just put on what she'd said. This was one assignment that didn't need any discussion or compromise.

Walking around the many officers, he exchanged a few words, falling back on some of the discussions he had heard his father have. Recounting his father's military career helped with the small talk too. Hopefully, though, he'd be able to talk to a friendly face soon enough.

April knew this was serious, that they could not fail and that the pressure was high. She knew and understood exactly what the stakes were, and in many ways it felt the way it had when they arrived at Seattle Grace from Mercy West, knowing that they would be inspected and that some would lose their jobs. That they'd have to prove themselves while working in a hostile environment.

Still, dressed up like this, in a gorgeous sparkly gown which was more like something out of a fantasy than real life, she couldn't help but to feel like a princess from a fairytale. Granted a modern, very fashionable, fairytale, but a fairytale all the same. The medals, the tuxes - it only enhanced the feeling of being Cinderella at the ball.

She made small talk with a smile, and though she was nervous of a long list of things, from tripping to making a fool of herself to speaking too much, she was enjoying herself as she walked around the room. When she reached Dom, she smiled brightly at him. She hadn't spoken much to him since he arrived, like so many of the rest of the newly arrived. It was time to change that, she decided. After all she needed to make friends and live her life. Her conversation with Neal had showed her how much she hadn't lived yet, here or back home, and while life here was limited that was no excuse for not making the most of it.

"Hi," she said. "How are you?"

Dom smiled back. At least this conversation wasn't one he'd have to worry about, not that they could say anything of value. Considering where they were, who knew how many bugs there were around the room.

"Hello, Doctor. I'm fine, thank you, and you?" he asked, pleasantly. "Are you enjoying yourself?" Of course, they were all pretending to like this, but there were some who enjoyed it a little more than the rest. "Is this your first military affair?"

"I feel like a princess," April answered with a smile. "So yes, I am, and yes it is," she said with a small laugh. "I don't think I've ever worn anything this pretty in my life. Or rather, I know I haven't."

"How about you, have you been to many of these before?" She would have loved to go to a party like this where she didn't need to watch her tongue quite as much, but she'd take the experience she got and make the most of it.

Oh man. He didn't know if it was a dimension thing or it was this woman in particular, but he did not expect that answer. He could have just imagined his mother's face (or that of any woman married to an officer) if she'd heard it. "They are a little overwhelming at first. At least there aren't all the spouses. Now, there's one intense situation. The wives are even more ambitious than the officers and very aware of their role. Any faux pas could mean a ruined career."

"My first official Army party, at least from the inside. My father is a retired Army Colonel, so I got to experience many of these without actually going to them," he answered. "Now, the clothes aren't a new thing." He might not have bought a tux this expensive, but Hetty had dressed him up more than once in the past year.

"So if a wife behaves out of order, that could damage the husband's career?" she asked, looking around the room. She was suddenly very glad the wives weren't here. "How about spouses for female officers, or aren't there any at this level?" She knew the military was a man's world, but it was 2011, surely some women rose to high ranks?

"How different is it?" she asked. "Being to one rather than, as you put it, experience them without going to them? Is it everything you thought it was?"

She smiled when he mentioned the tux. "It suits you."

Brian/?

2011-04-08 07:35 pm UTC (link)
Parties were wonderful. Brian loved parties whether they were in a place like Babylon, with men half naked and having sex in backroom, or a black tie affair. He'd done enough political parties that he knew how to enjoy these parties as well. Sure, there were usually more gay people at those, but sexually repressed military people were fun to deal with, especially when the sarcasm went over their heads.

That didn't mean that he wasn't careful. He knew politicians would backstab you in the blink of an eye and generals and admirals at this level were as much politicians as they were military. So he talked and he played and he drank some. Despite the seriousness of the situation, he was having the time of his life.

Nate was more at home at this party than he had been during his entire stay here. Politicians he could deal with far better than assault weapons and he knew enough about the military from his father and other family members to behave correctly in their presence. He'd been brought up to converse in polite society and Nate had never disappointed in that respect - It had been as much a part of his life as learning how to tie his shoelaces. It definitely didn't hurt that he got to wear a tux again which, for Nate, made the evening. He liked well-made clothes and he had been in out of of suits and tuxes since he was small.

Still, whilst he was enjoying himself, he still stayed close to the group of people he did know. It was strange to think of this group of people as family but they were in a way. They were all stuck in the same position and they just had to make the best of it.

"Are you enjoying yourself?" Nate asked Brian as he found himself turning away from a conversation and next to the other man. "Is it wrong that this is the most comfortable I've been since getting here?"

At a different part, Brian would have properly said hello, and the proper way included tongue, but unfortunately he knew better than to try this here. It wasn't even that they were two men, but that they were kissing. Military men were boring. However, he couldn't resist sliding a hand over the front of Nate's tax, going lower than he probably should.

"I am now," he said with a grin. "You look good in a tux, not that I'm surprised." Just like he wasn't surprised by the admission. "No, it's not. You're familiar with this; it's like coming home. Of course, you're comfortable. Unfortunately, it's not going to last. We'll go back to cheap cotton soon enough."

Nate stepped back slightly when Brian's hand drifted lower, determined that no matter how amusing he found Brian, Brian's cock wasn't fucking up this party. "Later," he murmured under his breath, keeping a smile on his face.

"You were before. I can tell you like this," he said with an easy grin.

"Really? Can't I go live in the wardrobe room with the tuxes?" he asked, half-joking. "This is just so much easier than any training. I don't understand how anybody could even find it hard or uncomfortable. They should try coming to one of my parties one night and seeing how long they last."

"Don't worry. I'm not planning to have sex here," he said, grinning, "but later sounds fine."

Brian chuckled. "I was. I do this for a living and I didn't pick it because I didn't have alternatives, but because I enjoy it."

He leaned closer. "You don't want sex, but you're talking about wardrobes and tuxes, and I can only think about taking it off." Unlike Nate, he was sure that some of these people could last the night. He knew when people knew how to lie and some of them were as fake as they came. "You'll be amazed what they could do."

"Well, that's good. I don't think having sex here and now would help these people think that we're normal and not complete reprobates," Nate teased, knowing that he had to watch himself. It was far too easy to find himself agreeing with Brian, not least because the other man had good ideas. Risky but good. "Not to mention the Director wouldn't be pleased with his PR man."

"I think it's the most relaxed I've seen you outside the club. Well," Nate looked amused. "When weed isn't involved anyway."

"Who said I didn't want to have sex? I just said that now isn't the time," he replied airily, taking another sip from his drink and looking politely amused. "I'm sure I would be but it's not all new to me. We had plenty of military men and politicians, especially at family parties at grandfather's. A weekend of that was exhausting."

There were perks when you worked in the BAU. Your own personal jet was a nifty things to have, even if technically it wasn't 'personal', but Derek spent more time on that jet than in his home, which made it feel like it was his. However, they never got clothes that were worth as much as a car, and why anyone needed a tux that expensive was beyond him. Most people couldn't tell the difference between a cheap tux and a good one anyway.

He might have doubts about the money spent for the wardrobe, but there was one woman who certainly enjoyed good clothes, and tonight it was haute couture. Garcia had to be on cloud nine for this.

Derek approached her with two flutes at hand and offered her one. "So baby girl, are you enjoying with-" He probably should know this one, he was paid to pick up little details, but for the life of him, he couldn't remember which designer it was. "Whatever designer you're wearing?"

She had tried for pants, well first she had tried to get out of the event all together. Parker had a hard enough time spending her days in the company of FBI and NCIS agents constantly without adding top military brass to the list of people spending too much time eying her. When that option was turned down she'd asked for pants, you never knew when you were going to have to go into an air vent and she really didn't want to do that in a dress.

That had been a no go too.

So now she found herself in a - well it was very pretty - dress that she would have to ruin completely if she had to get into any vents, doing her very best to blend into the walls and sticking close to people she knew rather than the men and women sent here to inspect them. She never thought there would be a day when she'd rather sidle up to an FBI agent than deal with a crowd of strangers, but then this place was turning everything on it's head.

Neal hadn't been given a hat - black tie wasn't really the occasion for a good hat - but he was wearing a suit and it was a nice one at that. He'd been spoilt by June giving him her husband's clothes to wear throughout his stay at her townhouse and had missed the clothes a bit once he'd gotten to this version of New York so it was nice to be back in them.

The party was relatively boring, all too military for his liking. He'd rather talk to people with more character or more colorful histories even though Peter probably wouldn't like him going anywhere near such persons. Instead, he made conversation when necessary but stuck to his own sort more often than not.

"Hi," Neal had spotted Parker and decided that they should talk beyond a 'hello'. They both had similar backgrounds, the only difference as far as Neal could see was that Parker hadn't been caught and specified in stealing. "How are you? Wanting to disappear yet?"

Parker glanced briefly when Caffrey approached her, Neal might have been caught and he might have started working for the other team before they'd ended up here and had it forced on them, but they were still cut from the same cloth and she'd much rather attach herself to him than one of the real agents on their side.

"Since I got here." She told him, turning toward him just enough that the angle would make it harder for anyone attempting to see what she said to him, adjusting the tilt of her hips and the curve of her smile all in small incremental ways without thinking about it, as much habit to do it as it was for her to consider how many thousands of dollars worth of diamonds some of the other women wore and how easy it would be to scoop up just a few of them and ducking out before anyone was any wiser. She didn't need to stay here, and yet she did.

"And you're right at home?" She asked, quirking an eyebrow at him wondering just how much Neal had changed since he'd started working with the FBI, if he was just as at home here among military men as he would be anywhere or if he still maintained that paranoia.

Neal wasn't sure how Parker would react to him but she seemed to be willing to talk which was a good beginning. He had become used to people disliking him for working for the bureau but it had been the best way out for him; even if he had done his time, Neal knew he wouldn't have stayed clean. At least he still got to run cons, even if they were for the FBI.

"You get used to it eventually," he said, hoping it would for Parker. "Although it's not the same. They keep a watch on us and what we do unfortunately but it's a step up to the anklet I was wearing. Running off, however tempting it is, isn't a great idea."

"I wouldn't say that," Neal replied. "I've never liked the military much."

She watched him with slightly narrowed eyes, she wasn't sure she'd get used to this, even without the military inspection Parker wasn't cut out for this sort of life. Schedules and training and classes and partners ... well the partners weren't so bad, she could get used to that part of it at least. But she liked being able to leave when she wanted, she missed having her own space, she missed having her safe houses - she missed her money.

"No, I've been reminded of that many times all ready." Parker agreed, though she wasn't convinced running wasn't the best idea anyone had had since they arrived. The other agents seem to realize eventually they would be forced to run, Parker just wasn't sure why they were letting the government decide the time frame for that when they could do it themselves now. Still this wasn't the best place to talk about running, in theory or not.

"No?" She smirked slightly when he told her he'd never liked the military. "But you're fond of the FBI?" Peter and Neal were close, and that could be explained easily enough, but Parker found it interesting that Neal without the anklet he had worn before was still close to his former FBI handler.

"It's true. I was tempted, I'll admit. If Peter hadn't been here, I might have tried it," he admitted. "Unfortunately he's the one person that can nearly always find me."

"Fond? Not sure that's the right word," Neal said with a chuckle, knowing that his own position within the bureau was really quite unique. He was a CI, true, but he was trusted by Peter for the most part and he got away with a lot more than he should. "I'd have preferred to be free but I didn't really get a choice in that part. Better than prison though."

He tilted his head and smiled. "I imagine you're not so fond of agencies in general?"
