RP: Oliver and Derek's Party
Who: Public (add your tags if they are there)
Where: pool side at the hotel
When: Sunday, May 26, 2013
Summary: They celebrate Derek's birthday

Brian was determined to make this birthday a success whether Derek wanted or not. Oh sure, technically it was for Oliver and Derek, but their friends understood why this was for Derek, at least when it came to Brian and John.

He got in touch with a local restaurant and had to make a run to pick up trays of food. He would have loved to arrange everything through the restaurant, but he couldn't imagine Derek enjoying the fancy dishes served there. Instead he went for a little simpler menu. He also got cakes for both and desserts of different time. Nell couldn't exactly bake here, but Brian still got the ice cream cake (no alcohol) and alcohol to go with it. Derek could bitch and moan, but Brian would make sure that they covered all of their bases down to fruit, vegetables and milk, because the man was superstrange, but making him happy made John happy and that was all that Brian cared about.

With everything set up, Brian could lie by the pool and get a tan while ogling all the good looking men. It was indeed a good party.

"I never said this was a game. I never thought of it as that," Oliver said defensively.

Tommy's next statement got Oliver hot under the collar. "Arrogant? You think I'm being arrogant," Oliver steamed. "Where the hell do you get off? Part of my life's permanently etched onto my body and it's not something I want on display."

Oliver glowered, snagging his remaining drink. "And I'm watching you so nothing happens to you. Jerk."

"Then don't talk about it like it is," Tommy answered. "You want to play the dickhead frat boy with a random piece of ass, I'll join you. Speak like that about me, and we have a seriously problem. Fucking me with is fun? Seriously? Because I'm starting to wonder if any of this is serious for you."

Tommy sat up and sat sideways, staring at Oliver. "Yes, I think it's arrogant. I think you're using it to make yourself special, different. Everyone has scars, whether you can see them or not. In case you haven't paid attention, this group has more issues than fucking Reader's Digest, and the scars that go with it. Derek just shot Travis, because he was having some sort of flashback from a war we know nothing about. People have been abandoned, neglected, abused, and I don't mean in the world at large, but right here. To think that your scars are so different or egregious that people would care or feel pity is arrogant. To think that anyone would view you as if you were on display is stupid and an insult to these people that have proven that are a lot better people than anyone we know. So yeah, stop being a dick about it, because you can't use that damn island as an excuse for the rest of your life."

He frowned, because he wasn't sure what he was expecting, but that wasn't it. "Are you that stupid? Do you know what's under my towel? A gun. Maybe I'll never used it, but it's there. There are plenty of people around us that can do the job better than me. I don't need you to babysit me. You want to stare because you're horny, I'm good with that. If you're only staring to protect me, then stop. I know what I said when we got here, but that was six months ago. Things change. We change. I don't want a babysitter. I don't want a body guard. I want a friend, and possibly a boyfriend who gets that the worst scars aren't the ones you can see."

"It is serious. It's so damned serious that I don't even know what to do about it."

Oliver mimicked Tommy's position, facing him, wearing a dark expression. "I'm aware that I'm not the only one with issues or problems, but that doesn't make them any less real, just like your addiction isn't just something you get over. You're working your ass off to stay clean and I'm working on being human without the act. So I can't take my fucking shirt off in public. I can take it off in front of you without any discomfort and I think that's a hell of a lot more important," he said.

"You are my friend, and I'm not going to stop watching your back even if you want me to or think that someone else can do it, even youself. I'm not going to lose you."

"Stop thinking about it so much, because it is really this simple." He stopped when Candy returned with his mimosa. He signed for the drink and tip, and smiled at her. Some things were just too ingrained to stop

"Now that she's gone, I get that they are really. I do, but I don't really care about the shirt or the scars. I care that you're holding on so tightly to the island that you can't live in the present, and maybe that's really the problem." He leaned forward, arms on his knees and looked up at Oliver. "I'm an addict. I will always be an addict, Oliver. I'm not like you who used to have fun, or like Brian. There isn't a time that i don't have a problem and I don't think about drugs first. I can be clean for months, and still be an addict. That's never going to change, but you can. You have to, not because I'm asking you or because i want you to, but because you can never be normal again if you don't, or at least as normal as it's possible given the circumstances."

He reached over and put a hand on Oliver's knee. "You can't be my bodyguard and my boyfriend. You're not my bodyguard. You're not the Hood. You're Oliver Queen, that's who I need more than the bodyguard. I never had any fun with the bodyguards, but I plan to enjoy my life with you, but you need to stop playing the protector and using that as an excuse to pull back from life. You watch life go by you, but you don't live it." He leaned closer, and pressed his lips against Oliver's. It was the first time that he'd kissed Oliver in public and looked at Oliver hesitantly as he pulled back. "Is this okay?"

"I'm thinking about it so much because it's not that simple for me. I can't even tell you why, because I don't know. It could be that I can't give you a future because I don't believe in the future. It could be that sex is a distraction. It could be because this isn't a fling. It could be performance anxiety for all I know."

Oliver dropped his head in his hands. "I know, Tommy, and I am trying to change, to converse without faking it, and just be without thinking of the hundreds of ways for us to survive any situation in any room we're in. I'm not on the island and I'm not the Hood here, but we're still in such a dangerous situation that it's like I never left.

"Derek's been here, what? A year? Two years? From what I've seen, it doesn't seem like he's gotten over where he's come from, and that doesn't even count the flashback."

Oliver lowered his hands when Tommy touched his knee. He was frustrated, unhappy, and concerned about being alert to their surroundings and keeping Tommy safe, even as Tommy told him to stop.

The kiss was unexpected, but not unwelcome, and the world stilled for that brief moment. Oliver closed his eyes, took a deep breath, and released it slowly. "Yeah, it's okay." He opened his eyes to look at Tommy. "There's no need to hide it."
