RP: Oliver and Derek's Party
Who: Public (add your tags if they are there)
Where: pool side at the hotel
When: Sunday, May 26, 2013
Summary: They celebrate Derek's birthday

Brian was determined to make this birthday a success whether Derek wanted or not. Oh sure, technically it was for Oliver and Derek, but their friends understood why this was for Derek, at least when it came to Brian and John.

He got in touch with a local restaurant and had to make a run to pick up trays of food. He would have loved to arrange everything through the restaurant, but he couldn't imagine Derek enjoying the fancy dishes served there. Instead he went for a little simpler menu. He also got cakes for both and desserts of different time. Nell couldn't exactly bake here, but Brian still got the ice cream cake (no alcohol) and alcohol to go with it. Derek could bitch and moan, but Brian would make sure that they covered all of their bases down to fruit, vegetables and milk, because the man was superstrange, but making him happy made John happy and that was all that Brian cared about.

With everything set up, Brian could lie by the pool and get a tan while ogling all the good looking men. It was indeed a good party.

Brian and Anyone or No One

It was funny. At the trailer park, Brian missed Mia and Jack and Dom every time he heard the familiar strains of Don Omar coming out of one of the neighbors' windows, or caught the scent of pollo asado on Sunday afternoon. But, it still seemed almost normal. It was so close to home he could almost imagine they'd just gone out for groceries and would be back soon. There would be teasing about what kind of cars caught Jack's attention as they drove.

But, sitting around the pool at a hotel in Napa that even Rome couldn't complain about, it hit him hard for the first time in three months. If they didn't find their way to the right dimension, he wasn't going to see his family again. His son was going to grow up just like he had, wondering if his dad had even cared.

And Brian wasn't one who wanted to brood. Dom was the brooder. Brian was the one who took things in stride, which is how he wound up in the pool instead of standing around it eating. They were always eating with these people. It reminded Brian of those church ladies who answered every crisis and celebration with food. Brian preferred activity. Actually, the only time he'd ever truly enjoyed the food and the company had been those backyard barbeques at Dom's before everything went to hell with the truck heists. So, he swam laps. A lot of laps.

It wasn't as calming as driving. But, it would do. After awhile, he pulled himself out and flopped down on the nearest lounge chair. "Somebody pass me a beer," he said to no one and everyone in the general area, grinning that dimple-baring pretty boy grin he'd never outgrown. "Just make it a Corona."

Mike was still trying to find his place in this group. The problem was that too many people were settled, and he didn't mean in a romantic way, but they had families and routines. Even when things changed, they changed in a predictable way, at least if you'd been around for a while. It wasn't so bad when they were working. They spent so much time training that there was little time to think about the changes in their lives, but on the weekends, or during vacations, it was difficult to ignore.

As tempting as staying in his room and sulking was, Mike was not the type. He was still the one who could be fascinated by life, even when that life involved serial killers, so there was no way he was going to miss the chance to enjoy some California sun.

He was more a beach type of guy, but the pool would have to do right now. After a swim, he got out and wondered toward the table with the drink. He snorted when he heard Brian asking for a Corona. Still, he picked up a bottle and brought it over, letting the cool water from the ice that was keeping them cold fall on Brian's stomach. "This will have to do or you can see about making a dimensional trip," he answered with his smirk.

Compared to the cooling pool water already on his body, the water dripping from the bottle wasn't much of a shock. But, Brian's muscles still jumped at the contact. "Right, I'll get right on that," he replied with a laugh. "Set the warp core and beam us wherever and all that."

Opening his eyes, he reached out to take the bottle from Mike. "Thanks, man." Sitting further up on the lounge chair, he cracked open the bottle and drank a couple swallows. Then he set the bottle on his stomach, his hand steadying it, and let his head fall back with a satisfied sigh. It wasn't a Corona, but it was close enough. Honestly, it was Dom's fault Brian even paid attention to the kind of beer he drank. Couldn't get anything but Corona in a Toretto house. "Pull up a chair and join me. Drinking alone is just sad and pathetic. Oh, hey! There's a track nearby that I was thinking of checking out tomorrow. Drag race scheduled, but thought I'd go anyway, see if there was any public drive time available. Care to join me for something with a little more adrenaline than a spa?"

Mike snorted. "I'm pretty sure that was time traveling, not dimensional one, although there was that one episode... what was the title? The one with evil Spock who had the goatee. Mirror, Mirror, I think."

Pulling up a chair, he sat down next to Brian. "You're welcome." He took a few sips from the bottle and then put it on the ground next to him. It was something that he'd learned to do since joining the FBI, keep one bottle near and making it look like he was actually drinking. It made you look more sociable than saying that agent were required to carry 24/7 and as such, they couldn't get drunk. "Drag race?" He chuckled. "Last time I did any crazy driving was the defensive driving course at Quantico, but sure. I'm not really the spa type anyway."

He stared at the people in the pool for a moment, debating if he should ask or not, but no one could accuse the people at the BAU of being shy. "I don't get it, and you can tell me that it's none of my business, but it takes time and dedication to become an undercover cop, you work with the FBI, why turn to the other side? I can't...." He turned around, sitting sideways so that he could look at Brian. "The psychology of it is just fascinating. It's why it's so hard to accept that cops, agents, soldiers go bad. What did it for you?"

Mike shrugged. "It's what I know. Same as you. We grew up, we made our choices, we all end up here, thrown together." He stretched his arms in Brian's direction. "And I get m own Jedi Master who's going to teach me about fun and cars. You do know about Jedi Masters, right? Because if you don't, we seriously need to spend some time in front of a ... oh wait, no computer. We'll have to steal John's. Actually, I'm pretty sure Brian's is easier. I distract him, you steal it, how does that sound?"

He laughed. "And if you were gay, I'd be really lucky, but alas, I'm only somewhat lucky."

Listening to people was one of the things he had learned to do. The facts were important, because he already had a good idea of the situation there, but listening to what Brian chose to explain was telling about the man. "Sounds to me like Dom provided a sense of justice, more than right or wrong that LAPD wasn't giving you, but not all PDs are like that, and not all agents are like the ones you know. Are you okay with working with so many agents, though? It can't be easy, a little twitching here and there, maybe watching Deeks and Travis together, listening to all the talk about Brothers in Blue, and families." He'd seen how Deeks and Savannah had helped with Travis and Thomas. Not that they weren't the types to help anyone, but this felt different, felt more personal. "I'm not offering a family like Savannah, but maybe a possible future friend, someone to watch your back."

Rolling his eyes, Brian reached for the towel he'd ignored when he got out of the pool at tossed it at Mike's head. "Yes I know Jedi Masters. I can even remember seeing them in the theatre during the original release." Reaching for his beer, he tossed the remainder back and set the empty back down. "I'm pretty sure we can probably rent the movies from the hotel and watch them on a real television," he added, chuckling. "First rule of criminal behavior: only do what you have to do or you'll get caught. You have much to learn, young padawan."

Brian snorted. "Nah, you're still lucky; you're just not getting lucky."

He thought for a minute and then shook his head. "Maybe. But, truth is, my sergeant was right. I never wanted it to be Dom. Until Race Wars, when all the shit hit the fan, I was still holding out for it to be anyone else. And, like I said, a few assholes make it a bad situation for everyone. I didn't feel the bond in LAPD, but it's the Feds I'd blame for fucking everything up, rushing to get their collar no matter what corners they had to cut, going back on the deal. If I was going to bother holding on to that kind of shit." He'd made the same mistakes there, thinking he could fix things from the inside, go straight, when he should have known better, should have known they weren't going to get a fair shake. It was why he'd left Bakersfield. Why he'd been so tempted to stay in Miami with Rome. You got your lot in life handed to you as kids and the black marks followed, no matter how much you tried to shake 'em, no matter how much the good outweighed the old mistakes. He'd finally made peace with that.

Glancing towards Deeks and Marks, he shrugged. "Is what it is. Like you said, we made our choices and ended up here. I have my family, my team. I wouldn't mind a friend, possible future or any other qualifiers you want to tack onto that," he teased. "But, I got no beef with any of them. If we get home and they get between me and my family, then we got a problem. But, as long as they don't fuck with my family, no problem. They can talk Brothers in Blue all they want. It doesn't bother me. I couldn't find what I needed there. If they did, that's good for them. I found it elsewhere. S'all good."

Mike grabbed the towel laughing. "So you are that old. I'll keep that in mind, Yoda." He nodded. "We could do that, but where is the thrill. You've got to break the small rules to get them, not the big ones. And besides a good agent knows when the risk of getting caught is low. With Brian... Oh wait, maybe I should watch with him and then I'll really get lucky," he said with a grin.

"Sounds to me that you found who you are, even if I feel like I should defend the Bureau here. Since its a nice day and arguments take too much energy, lets assume that I did and you answered in kind." He really had no interested in defending an entire agency. There were also bad apples and he wouldn't defend people he didn't know. "I'm more interested in the team we have now." He chuckled. "Some people get antsy with the lack of qualifiers, but a friend sounds good."

He sighed. "You know that the way to fuck with your family is to go back to your family, right? And it won't come from them. If we get home, then maybe you'll take some help and advice from people who truly understand federal agencies, until then, we can work on this Jedi Master/Padawan thing we have going."

Oliver/Tommy

Oliver sat in a lounge chair poolside, wearing long shorts and a t-shirt, his feet bare. Moisture condensed on the glass of lemonade that sat on the round table between himself and Tommy. He was trying to relax, as he had been all weekend, and was mostly failing. He remembered when this was his life and, by now, he'd have been riding on his third-day high surrounded by women, several of whom he'd have bedded. Tommy would have been with him, enjoying himself equally as much.

Oliver glanced over at Tommy, who was sunning himself on the lounge chair. Tommy was still enjoying himself, while Oliver was on edge, and none of the women there had come close to them, even if to be turned down. Oliver was almost jealous that Tommy could be at ease, if not for the fact that Oliver's watchfulness gave Tommy that opportunity.

Oliver's gaze slid around the pool area, searching for any sort of danger and finding only people swimming or sunbathing. He could stay immobile for hours if need be, in hiding or stalking. He just hadn't expected to be doing it so often out in the open. But adaption was necessary for survival, and he'd done exactly that since they'd arrived in this dimension. Now, if he could apply that principal to his relationship with Tommy...

Tommy could really get used to this. Who was he kidding? This was the life he'd always lived, a life he enjoyed. They didn't have to worry about money, work, training, and he had supersoldiers all around him to deal with any problems. Hell, Sean could kill people without even moving from his chair. He liked to have Sean has a partner. Not that he really thought anything was going to happen. Other than a tan. He really wanted a nice tan to happen.

Lying down in the very comfortable lounger, he barely paid attention until there was a shade near him. He lowered his sunglasses and smiled at the pretty waitress in skimpy, and yet tasteful clothes. "Another mimosa would be great, thanks." He turned to Oliver. "How about you? Are you going to join us on the wild side and drink something decent? I'm sure... my apologies, I haven't asked your name? I'm Tommy and this is Oliver."

The woman giggled, which was a very usual response. "I'm Candy."

"Of course you are." Tommy grinned at her, before looking at Oliver again. "Candy would love to bring you a real drink.'

"I'll stick with lemonade, thanks," Oliver said. This should be the point where he flirted harmlessly, or at least put on an act. Tommy had wanted him to be the real Oliver, or so he'd said back when, and unless Oliver needed to act a certain way for a cover story, he was going to be true to himself as he was now.

He dismissed Candy while keeping her in his peripheral vision. When she had gone, Oliver snorted softly. "Candy? Really? She may as well wear a tag that says 'Free Snatch Here'." He shook his head. "It's not very attractive."

"Just a mimosa then. Thank you, Candy." He winked at her and watched her go with a big smile on his face. He chuckled at Oliver's comment. "I think it's a lovely name for a lovely piece of ass," he answered laughing. "Come on, Oliver. Loosen up. She's young, good looking, probably waiting to make some money to make her way South and make it big. Why shouldn't she fuck around? It's fun, in case you have forgotten." Sure, Tommy was getting older and the one night stands were getting boring, but that didn't mean that he didn't approve wholeheartedly of them.

"Speaking of fun, why aren't you taking that shirt off and swimming?" Tommy never pushed about the scars, but it was becoming ridiculous. "With the number of tattoos, scars, bullet holes, burns going around, I stand out more because I have perfect skin."

"I'm not asking you for a future. We don't know if there is a future, but you just insulted a young woman because she enjoys sex." That was still not computing in his head. "Is sex the problem? Not with me, but in general? But you said you said you had sex, so I don't know. And why the fuck are we even discussing this out here, I'm not sure."

Tommy ran his fingers through Oliver's hair. It wasn't the expensive hair cut that it had when they got here, but it was still short, shorter than Tommy's own cut. His fingers curled around the back of Tommy's neck. "I understand all of that, Oliver, and I don't expect you to change overnight, but at least I expect you not to have to force yourself to speak to me, because if you can't even talk to me unless making a joke out of this relationship, then maybe I was wrong, and maybe you really aren't ready for anything. If you need to put the breaks on this, I will understand, but don't do it, because you think you can protect me better that way. I don't want you to."

He squeezed Oliver's nape gently. "Derek spent his entire life in a war zone. I would hope that you aren't as bad. For him, that life wasn't an anomaly, but the norm. He doesn't want to get over it, because he's planning on returning to that life. I'm hoping that you're not looking to return to that life."

Letting out a breath he didn't know he was holding, Tommy pressed their foreheads together. "Good, because you're too good looking to hide," he teased. "God, Oliver, it's really so very simple. Me, you, living life like we always have. The conditions might be different, the finances might be lower, but the important things don't change and that's our friendship, our love for each other." He smiled at his own words. "I couldn't even say that with Laurel, but you? I've loved you since we were kids.

"Since returning, the only person I've had sex was with the woman who shot my mother," Oliver stated sardonically. "It came up out here, so here's where we're talking. We can always go inside."

Oliver smiled slightly. "I'd rather be around you while not speaking than with anyone else while not speaking, if that's anything," he said. "Talking to you doesn't feel forced, to me anyway, but I also don't talk much at all. I also can't help wanting- no, needing to protect you. It's an unrelenting feeling right here." He tapped his chest, over his breastbone.

"I'll admit wanting to return to what I'd been doing, but it isn't a constant pull as it was a few months ago. I promised you I'd become my own person, not focusing on the debts of my father's, and you were going to do the same with your life. Maybe we'll eventually get there, but I don't look further than today."

Oliver put his hand on Tommy's knee, their foreheads still touching. "No, that hasn't changed. I might've buried it, but it's always been there and still is."

Tommy chuckled. "Right and she was so good that you formed an aversion to sex apparently. You might want to reconsider your choices of women." He wasn't even touching the fact that Oliver had thought that taking Laurel's sister on a boat was a good idea.

"Do you want to go inside and talk?" he asked. "And no, that wasn't a subtle way to have sex with you. If you're more comfortable talking inside, where we aren't exposed, and you don't have to worry about people trying to kill is and whatever else goes through your mind, then, we should go inside for a while."

He laughed. "So you think of me as the damsel in distress. You do know that I was joking when I said that, many moons ago, right?" He kissed Oliver again, smiling against his lips. "It's ... well, a little weird to be honest, and humbling that you care this much, and I'm not saying that you need to stop, but you can't spend your life worrying about me, treating me like I can't take care of myself. I don't care how good you Re with a bow, or how many people you can shoot. We are doing things together and that means we are equals in this. Also I'm pretty sure that every woman in this team would shoot you if you treated them like damsels in distress. So you really have it easy with me."

He looked up to where TJ was sitting with Travis, before turning to Oliver. "If you had told me that TJ Hammond would end up with a cop who has no money or pedigree, I'd have laughed at you. I know that the future isn't something we can predict under the circumstances. TJ is the perfect example, but he's also proof that you can find happiness here. That's all I want, Oliver. I want us to be happy."

"I have no problem being partner with you out of training," he said as he slid closer and nipped Oliver's ear. "Really don't have a problem with that." He didn't mention that unlike Oliver, he did trust the other people, and he especially trusted Sean, who'd done nothing but help since they'd been paired together.

"Oliver, I'm not asking any of that. I was thinking in a much smaller scale. If we're outside, stop acting like you're the body guard and I can do everthing I want because you will take care of things. If we're at those picnics, let me deal with possible attacks, because the truth is, that no matter how good you are, no matter how good everone is, a unit of snipers could do a lot of damage to everone and we all need to act according to circumstances. Generally speaking, though, I'm not asking you to feel like you do, just to remember that first and foremost, you are my friend."

He knew that now they were going around and around, saying the same things, because Oliver was too obsessed with protecting him. "I don't need to drug you," he said as he rolled closer, lying half on top of Oliver. His hand trailed over the many scars and tattoos that covered Oliver's chest. "I can find other ways to let you relax." This might be new to him, but worrying about Oliver wasn't, and if his friend wasn't ready for intercourse, it didn't mean that they couldn't work up to it. Tommy kissed Oliver while his fingers moved down his chest. He stopped for a moment, before pushing his hand inside Oliver's short. His fingers closed around Oliver's erection and he began to fist Oliver. "This is so very uncomplicated," he whispered, before capturing Oliver's lips again.

"All right, the picnics then. You figure out all the ways someone could attack us, how we'd escape it, and tell me, and I'll fill in the gaps," Oliver conceded. It wasn't as if he didn't want Tommy not to learn to handle not only himself, but to watch out for Oliver in return. Things would be picked up faster if the environment was harsher, but trial by fire wasn't something he'd wish on Tommy.

Oliver became distracted by Tommy's kiss, then Tommy's hand enclosing him. His fingers entangled in Tommy's hair, the other hand on Tommy's shoulder gripping him as Oliver delved deeper into the second kiss and the pleasure he was receiving. He could still hear and was aware, but his thoughts quieted.

They touched all the time, but it hadn't crossed the border into truly sexual teritory until now. Oliver pushed into Tommy's hand, sliding his lips from Tommy's to slip along Tommy's jaw. Oliver panted against Tommy's neck before he sucked a kiss there, but not hard enough to leave a mark. He grunted, already feeling himself racing towards the edge. It had been too long since he'd been touched like this.

"You've got a deal," he answered, but his mind wasn't on training or evacuation, and if anyone showed up now, they'd be dead in a heartbeat. Tommy had waited too long and anyone stopping him would be risking his life.

Tommy stopped kissing only to watch Oliver, watch the peaceful look that had been missing for too long. "God, I've never thought of doing this, but... it feels so right." He said the word with awe in his voice. having sex with a man had never occurred to him, but sex with Oliver felt right in ways that sex rarely had before.

He kissed Oliver again, not letting go easily, taking his time as his tongue plunged inside Oliver's mouth, tongues sliding against each other, caressing and intimate. Tommy wasn't sure why he hadn't tried this before.

Mike and Deeks

Later in the afternoon, Mike managed to catch Deeks. It wasn't really hard. He, Savannah and the kids were pretty much always around when it came to parties. No, it was more that Mike was enjoying talking to Brian. As he said, the man was fascinating, and with all the little cliques, it was easier for them to talk since they didn't have those connection. So he'd waited until Brian went swimming again.

Mike sat next Deeks, smiling. "So, we're on vacation and I won't take a lot of your time. There are three people with no partners and I wanted to talk to you about that before you move people around. If you do have to move someone and it works out, I'd like to work with Brian."

He looked to the pool, watching who was around them. "I would volunteer to work with Derek, keep an eye on him, but he knows that I pay attention to what he says. He'd never trust me, and he probably does best working with people who need the experience. He focuses on them instead of what's back home. I don't fit that profile. I do want to talk to him again after we go back, even if he's been smiling today, something I haven't seen him do since I got here. Still, I'm no psychiatrist and I doubt he'd be cleared by the Bureau, but things are different here. Best I can do is make sure he's not a threat. To make him healthy, he'd need a nice sabbatical, therapy and lack of anything violent."

"I'm going to assume you mean the blond and not the one currently trying to teach John how to breathe through his tongue," Marty replied with a snort. He'd pointed out to Savannah the fact it looked suspiciously like the sun was glinting off rings that appeared on their hands with Sam and G like stealth, earlier. So, there wasn't anything but amusement in his tone now. Not that there ever had been much censure from Marty.

"We're all going to need that sabbatical by the time we're done." If they were ever truly done, which probably wasn't likely. "But, sure, talk to Derek as much as you feel is necessary. You might not be a psychiatrist, but you're the expert among us as far as the psych goes, at least until we get Morgan and Emily back. If you think you need to talk to him, we'll make sure you get time to talk to him." Although, if he was smiling, Marty guessed a night time ramble through the woods with Nell must have done some good.

"Just out of curiosity, not that I'm saying yes or now, why Brian?" Marty wouldn't have picked O'Conner for his own partner if he could help it. First, he worked surprisingly well with Doug so far. Second, O'Conner was a rogue cop and just about the only one not Spencer, Spencer, or Ford Marty wouldn't trust at his back pretty much ever. There were some lines you didn't cross. But, it also hadn't escaped his notice that the two had been talking for some time during the course of the party.

Marty might pretend to be a goof ball, but he noticed a lot more that way.

Mike laughed. "As interesting as being partnered with that Brian would be, I'd have to say no. I like my men to be less ... attached. It's one of my great faults. Also partners and lovers... I don't know if I'm up with this working theory here. I like the Bureau's position. You can marry them, you just can't work with them."

He snorted. "I talk to Derek. It's getting Derek to talk to me that's something else." He almost rolled his eyes when he mentioned Morgan and Prentiss. "Their unit was always something ... different, but I'll try to get him to speak to me. Just the fact that he's talking is better than anything. Also, do you think that John and Nell will talk to me about him? I know it's a tough one, with loyalties and trust on the line, but he needs support from his family and they are the only ones he lets close as far as I can see." He wouldn't even go into the fact that Derek only mentioned John when they talked.

The question made him smile. "Because he's different. Because his motivations fascinate me. He doesn't really fit with the rest of the group, and I know what it's like not to fit. Mostly, because no other agent will trust him and no other cop will ever give him a real chance. I got that neither you nor Travis would feel comfortable with him at your backs, but I'm counting on the fact that you don't actually want him dead either, because you are cops. Whatever he's done there shouldn't be counted against him here. For what it's worth, I don't think he's going to screw you over."

Marty chuckled. "It's a new philosophy. It goes something like, if they won't learn for their own sakes, pair them with the one person who can get them to do it. You'll notice which couples aren't partners," he explained with a smirk. "But, not much I can do about the being attached."

The smirk grew into a grin. "Once you meet the two men they're with, you might feel sorry for Morgan and Emily. All that sharing wasted on Sam and G who make Derek look like an open book." Teasing turned to serious as he considered the question, though. "Talk to you about him? I think yes. Say anything in a way you get the kind of information you need? I suppose it depends on if you can convince them, John especially, that it's necessary to help Derek. John pays things very close to the chest. Nell, less so by nature, but she worked under and was a favorite of a scary little ninja of an operations manager from back home by the name of Hetty Lange, who had quite the reputation in the intelligence world from what I understand. I'd say try talking to them, but don't be surprised if you find out their very helpful sounding answers are only a fraction of the story."

Marty raised an eyebrow. "Fascinates you? Do you want a partner or a test subject? Or is this something I should just not ask about and you won't have to tell? But, no, we don't want him dead. He gets a chance to prove himself just like all the rest of us. But, I'll keep your request in mind. No guarantees, but I'll consider it." He wanted a little more time to see how or if Spencer and April and Ford would click with the rest of the group before deciding. But, he couldn't hold off for much longer. They needed to get people partnered up.

Savannah had tried to get to John since seeing those rings, but was proving quite difficult since he and Brian seemed glued to each other, performing mouth-to-mouth on each other. The carbon monoxide must be making them dizzy at this point, because she didn't think they inhaled any oxygen since coming out to the pool.

When Brian finally got up, Savannah asked Marty to watch the twins and pushed the stroller with a sleeping Jamie to where John was sitting. She sat next to him and hugged him tight. When she pulled back, she put her hand under his left. "You went and got married without a party. I should be really upset, especially considering how good he is at throwing parties."

If John had wondered if anyone was actually observant enough to notice the very small change wearing the rings was, -- which he hadn't -- he wouldn't have wondered if Savannah would notice. She had her own radar about these things. Squeezing her hand under his, he smirked. "You could be upset. Or you could remember this is Brian and, above all else, he never does what's expected.

"You'd have gone up in flames at the vows, anyway," he teased. Although they hadn't really been all that bad, especially considering it was Brian. It had been right for them and that was all that really mattered. "But, if it makes you feel better, it was very spur of the moment and even Derek didn't get to be there. Kind of more proposal, vows, and honeymoon in one."

She didn't think she would have gone up in flames, not because she enjoyed discussing sex, but because she was so used to Brian that somehow it didn't affect her as much. She guessed she had built a tolerance to his ramblings by now. "Derek would be.... okay no, Derek won't be upset, because I'm pretty sure that Derek doesn't care about normal parties," she said, laughing.

"Oh good, I'll have to tell Sam that you stole his idea. However, he knew better and did it in front of the family, because he understood how painful it would have been if he hadn't. For him," she added with a grin.

"It makes me feel better that you two are happy," she said. "The little brother who didn't want to be adopted is all grown up and married. How could I be upset? Of course, I really would have liked to be there to mention how marriages are part of breeders' attempts at forcing Judeo-Christian morals on everyone, including fags that should be free to fuck around." And yes, the blush was there, but she couldn't quote Brian and use words like homosexual or make love. "Really, his life is over now that he's finally been trapped by these obsolete conventions. We need a reception like his funeral-slash-birthday party for this wedding so I can make fun of him."

"I don't know. He might be a little upset I didn't tell him first. But, I didn't have any warning myself," John added, laughing. He'd have to find Derek and tell him before this party was over. He'd have told him the day before, but Nell had claimed his uncle for the whole day and it wasn't like John and Brian got up much before they had to get things together for the party now. "But, no, he wouldn't care about a party."

Smiling innocently, John shrugged. "But you won't make it painful for Brian because you know I won't let you."

He started to say something about the little brother part, but found himself blinking in surprise when Savannah did a near perfect imitation of one of Brian's tamer anti-marriage rants. Staring was all he could do for a moment before he burst out laughing again and reached over to hug her. "Heard that one a few times?" he teased as he let go. "Although, I do need to start thinking about his birthday. If it doesn't get screwed up again. Don't seem to have much luck making plans for that one," he huffed softly. "We are happy, though, and it's good. Really good. Better than I thought it would be a few months ago. I finally figured out that just being there with him thing you were trying to tell me about."
