Talking to members of the teams was easy. Talking to everyone at once meant that it needed to be done ether in the morning or at night. This morning, Sam brought everyone in the conference room after they finished their morning training.
He waited for the door to be closed and the scrambler to be turned on, before starting. "I've been asked other questions about trips outside, and I don't mind questions, but as I've said before, answers tend to be generic, because I can't possibly cover all the variables. For this reason, Ive decided that everyone will run an op. You will be assigned a location. Sometimes, you will be told that the entire group will go. Sometimes, it's your responsibility to figure out who's going. Sometimes, I will tell you who you'll bring. It's your job to go through all the steps and report to me. You will usually get the missions on Monday and you need to report to me by Friday at the latest, but you can report to me earlier if you have everything done. Some of these trips will happen.
"The missions will be based on experience, which means some are easier, some are harder. Some people will be paired, some won't, some people won't do it at all. You don't get to pick," he said. "You don't get to say no, either. I don't care that you will not organize anything because you don't want to be in charge. You're still doing this. No, you can't get out of it by talking to someone else." He thought that was obvious, but he was learning to cover all his bases.
"If your mission gets picked and we run it, you will take lead, with the understanding that in an emergency, we will take over," he continued. "Since these will be as close to real life as possible, it is your job to deal with the practicalities that we have to deal. If you run a mission by yourself and things can't be arranged, we'll just veto it. However, when we run ours, we have no choice but to deal with things that are less than optimal. For example, we've discussed assets. Now, do you divide a couple with children to provide coverage for those assets or do you do things differently? Now, you have questions that you wouldn't have if you were organizing a trip to the restaurant. It's your job not only to make the choice, but to discuss it with the people involved and make sure that they are okay with those choices.
"Finally, this isn't like Lead For A Day. I'm not looking for cute solutions, alternative ways of doing things. I don't give a crap about how you like to do things. When you become security officer, you can do whatever you like, until then, you do things my way." If he got some of the stuff they gotten with the Lead For A Day program, he was going to strangle them. "Any relevant questions?"
