RP: Everyone
Who: Everyone
Where: Converence room
When: October 19, 2012
Summary: Sam shares more information about the security

Talking to members of the teams was easy. Talking to everyone at once meant that it needed to be done ether in the morning or at night. This morning, Sam brought everyone in the conference room after they finished their morning training.

He waited for the door to be closed and the scrambler to be turned on, before starting. "I've been asked other questions about trips outside, and I don't mind questions, but as I've said before, answers tend to be generic, because I can't possibly cover all the variables. For this reason, Ive decided that everyone will run an op. You will be assigned a location. Sometimes, you will be told that the entire group will go. Sometimes, it's your responsibility to figure out who's going. Sometimes, I will tell you who you'll bring. It's your job to go through all the steps and report to me. You will usually get the missions on Monday and you need to report to me by Friday at the latest, but you can report to me earlier if you have everything done. Some of these trips will happen.

"The missions will be based on experience, which means some are easier, some are harder. Some people will be paired, some won't, some people won't do it at all. You don't get to pick," he said. "You don't get to say no, either. I don't care that you will not organize anything because you don't want to be in charge. You're still doing this. No, you can't get out of it by talking to someone else." He thought that was obvious, but he was learning to cover all his bases.

"If your mission gets picked and we run it, you will take lead, with the understanding that in an emergency, we will take over," he continued. "Since these will be as close to real life as possible, it is your job to deal with the practicalities that we have to deal. If you run a mission by yourself and things can't be arranged, we'll just veto it. However, when we run ours, we have no choice but to deal with things that are less than optimal. For example, we've discussed assets. Now, do you divide a couple with children to provide coverage for those assets or do you do things differently? Now, you have questions that you wouldn't have if you were organizing a trip to the restaurant. It's your job not only to make the choice, but to discuss it with the people involved and make sure that they are okay with those choices.

"Finally, this isn't like Lead For A Day. I'm not looking for cute solutions, alternative ways of doing things. I don't give a crap about how you like to do things. When you become security officer, you can do whatever you like, until then, you do things my way." If he got some of the stuff they gotten with the Lead For A Day program, he was going to strangle them. "Any relevant questions?"

After everyone has gone

April was nothing if not a good researcher. She'd done everything that Sam had told them to, and then done it again for safe measure. When comparing her job to what Nate had done, she'd been the one who thought of more practicalities, while he'd been the one to cover more continences and different scenarios moving outside the box while she'd stayed inside it. In the end they had put together a plan which all three of them were happy with, with the only dispute of who to run it. April thought Eliot - with him being the head of security in their house. Nate thought he should run it and pointed at his experience with running ops in the past.

It wasn't that she didn't appreciate his experience, or that she didn't like him but in the end he was an alcoholic and it was the safety of her husband and child in play. In the end she had won out, though she was sure that Nate still expected to be in charge. He wasn't one to just give up, and he didn't seem to like giving up control. If he'd cared more about the furniture, she was sure she'd have a harder time pushing this through.

Waiting until everyone had cleared out, April approached Sam. "Sam, could I have a moment? I have an op that I wanted to run past you." She waited for him to signal that it was okay to go on.

"Eliot, Nate and I have planned to go furniture shopping on Saturday. We'd go as one team, with Eliot as the head. The plan is to go to Target at 139 Flatbush Ave and Lowe’s at 118 2nd Avenue. We have two alternative routes to get there, either the B70 and the R-train, or the B63. To return we're planning on renting a truck at Lowe's and drive. We have three alternative routes to go - third avenue, fifth avenue or the highway onto Belt parkway, if the rental option is not possible we'll return with the public transports too. We would be leaving around eight am and expect to be back no later than two pm."

Sam looked between the two and it wasn't the first time that he felt in the twilight zone when it came to this group. Well, not with Ford, not yet at least. "Coming back isn't a problem since Brooklyn is on a grid. You can pretty much go down every avenue and still get here."

He frowned. "Are rental at Lowes cheaper than outside? In LA, they were by the hour? Wouldn't it be easier to rent one at U-Haul so you have transport both way and don't have to worry about local availability?" This wasn't even security as much as common sense.

"And why is Eliot in charge when a) he can't drive or shoot, which is the most likely thing to happen if you're being attacked in a car and b) he's not here to tell me the plan? You make the plan, you take point. That's what I just said. So whoever comes up with the plan is in charge. I guess you get the honors, April," he said. "So anything else?"

"Local availability isn't an issue, you reserve ahead of time, but you're right that U-Haul is closer and more convenient. I haven't used it before so I have to admit I didn't think of it. Therefore I don't know about cheaper, but I will see if they have a truck available and what they charge," she said.

She was more than a bit surprised at being given the responsibility and she knew that Nate was less happy with that option than Eliot (not that she thought he'd show as much in front of Sam.) She had a suspicion it was because with Eliot he'd get free range of what to do. They knew each other too well, they'd worked with each other for too long and had their roles. To Nate she was a new entity, and she wasn't used to taking his lead.

When Sam asked if there was nothing else, she still made sure to answer fairly quickly. "No, nothing else. I'll let you know about the truck rental and any change in routes."

Sam nodded. "All right, let me know what you find. We'll see if we can get a car to drop you off in the morning. Or if not, you can just take a car service there. It's much easier than a bus from here."

He looked between the two. "And next time, if Spencer wants to run point, he needs to talk to me. Now, if there isn't anything else, I should go have breakfast and so should you."
