RP: Party at the Club
Who: Everyone
Where: the base
When: February 24, 2011
Summary: It's a real party

The beauty of this reorganization was that he had a lot more free time available. Sure he had to deal with Hetty, but she wasn't bad for a woman, and she was witty, something that he appreciated. However, it still meant that he had time to fix the club the way he wanted.

He had to do it cheaply, of course, but he was resourceful when he needed to be. First they got rid of all those horrible tables. They were replaced by mismatched sofas left by soldiers that had moved elsewhere or from offices not used anymore. The next step was the walls. Again, it didn't take much, cheap full lenght mirrors, stripped of the frames and glued to the sheet rocks all around, while the walls in the sitting area were covered in sheer white fabric that would turn into a purplish color under the right light. There was also a cube of wood that they had quickly painted white on one side. They might never use it, but maybe he could convince a person or two to dance there. Finally the lights. Again, things could be done cheaply. Darkness was the key. He got the boys to get the lights that IKEA sold for inside drawers and put them at the bar so the bar tender could see without needing too much light. Then strobe lights, which weren't as expensive as people thought.

With the room ready, the music was the last touch. Brian had been listening to current dance and pop music since his arrival, but he was no expert, and he asked one of the soldiers who seemed to know what he was doing to create a few CDs with songs. They'll work up to a live DJ, but this was pretty good for the time being.

They were ready for a party.

"I wasn't a successful police detective either and I lived in Memphis, and I still never went to anything worse than this," she said. "So what you're saying it that it's better to be a student than a cop. Got it."

Savannah grinned. "You're always full of great ideas, and we can dance if you want to or not. I'm fine as long as you're with me."

She nodded, imperceptibly. "I know. I'm not sure what there is to talk about." She looked up at Marty again. "I am happy that you have your partner back. I know you missed her. I just... I miss my best friend, and my squad and school and being able to go out and do things." She reached up and dried a tear. "I'm sorry. I'm not in the best of moods tonight and for no reason."

"Well they do say those years are often the best of your life." He shrugged and grinned. "But in general yes, as far as parties go, it's almost always better to be a student than a cop."

"I'm not going anywhere, so dancing or not I'm here." Though Marty had all ready decided there would be dancing, because Savannah liked dancing and Marty liked dancing so why shouldn't they dance?

He squeezed her gently. "You don't have to apologize for anything." He told her. "I wish I could make this better for you. Things are going to change now that Kensi is here - I'm not going to say anything differently, but you are a part of our team, and I know we're not going to replace your squad or your friends or your school, but this group isn't complete without you anymore."

"I wouldn't know, would I?" she said, bitterly, before taking a deep breath to try to calm herself.

"Don't. Not from you. I don't need to hear how y'all accept me in your team, because the only thing that's very clear is that it is your team. I'm some late arrival due to circumstances," she said. "Let G worry about the team, and just be my boyfriend, okay? At least that's still the same." She looked at him for a moment, not sure if she should ask, but after Dan and Marti, she didn't know. "It is the same, right? Is there anything that I should know about you and Kensi? If there is, tell me now, please."

"Yeah okay, I'll let Callen deal with that." Marty wasn't even going to begin to touch the idea that this wasn't Savannah's team as much as it was for any of the rest of them. She had changed them - all of them and they could never be the team they'd been before, even if Kensi had never shown up. They were changed for the better because of Savannah.

Marty just hoped one day she could see that about them, see the effect she'd had on them as individuals and as a team. But he'd leave that to Callen for now.

"Yeah, it's the same, that hasn't changed just because she's here." He assured Savannah, and then shook his head. "No, I flirt with her, like I flirt with Sam, she's never been anything but my partner. Okay?" Some part of him had thought maybe it was Kensi he'd wanted when things with Savannah had gone to hell in the beginning, though Marty suspected that had more to do with missing home and the familiar than any desire he had to be with Kensi.

Savannah kissed him again, smiling. "If it ever changes, you'll tell me, right? Because I'd rather hear it from you than find out some other way." She didn't know why she was being so pessimistic, or maybe she knew, because it felt like everyone she cared about just went away.

"We should do something, something not work related. Maybe go to a movie, something, just us," she suggested. She needed to do something to get out of this mood. "I know they are worried with powers and stuff, but we can be careful, right? And just a few hours outside the base sound good, and I probably should save the pitch line for G," she said, chuckling. "Would you like that, though? Before I start asking."

"Hey, I'm not sure what you're thinking, but nothing is changing right now, and if anything does change I'm going to talk to you about it before anything happens okay? I might not have a lot of experience with all of this, but I'm not planning on going anywhere, not for Kensi, and not if we get to just go home tomorrow. All right?" He hadn't seen Savannah like this in some time, and even then it wasn't exactly the same either.

This wasn't the same girl they'd seen who wanted to end her life, but she was dealing with something, that much was obvious. And Marty really did wish he knew how to fix this, but until he figured that part out all he could do was be there and reassure her that things weren't just going to change overnight because Kensi was there.

"Yeah, the pitch lines usually work best with Callen." He grinned and nodded though when she asked if he'd like something like that. "Yeah we should definitely do something like that, just us away from the base for a while and everything that's going on here - I'd like that." And he knew they worried, and there was always the chance that something could go wrong with their powers, but it was either spend the rest of their lives on the base or learn how to deal.

"I'm not thinking anything, Marty. I need one person that isn't going to suddenly disappear from my life. I need you not to leave without talking to me first." She hugged him tight, heels making it a little easier to press against him and kiss him, and not just a peek on the cheek or mouth, but a real kiss, something she hadn't done in public before.

Savannah pulled back, and nodded. "All right, so I'll talk to G and see when we can make an escape from this base. We'll find something that we like to do and that isn't going to make his blood pressure sky rocket, like Aviator," she said, chuckling.

"I also need to get a gift for John's birthday, maybe tomorrow. Kensi needs clothes, too. Do you think she'd like to go with me? We can go after classes, and bring back lunch so we can eat while we go over the nothing we have on that case. Again." That hadn't really had been the point of asking. "Do you think I should ask her?"

Marty leaned into the kiss when Savannah hugged him, and nodded only when they parted. "I'm not going anywhere, I'm not going to disappear, and if anything comes up we'll talk about it, I promise." It was all he really could do for the moment, promise that he'd do his best to make this work, that he wasn't going to do something even more stupid than he'd done all ready and talk to her before anything like that happened.

"Okay, you let me know when we're making our daring escape and I'll be there." He snorted when she mentioned Aviator. "Yes, probably best if we avoid things like that, you know Callen and his blood pressure."

And just like that Savannah was moving on to the next topic John and his birthday, and taking Kensi shopping and getting lunch. She really was just a little crazy, but Marty liked that about her. "Yeah, I think that could be a good idea." Marty nodded and even if Kensi didn't want to go, she needed to learn how to spend time with Savannah it would be good for both of them.

"I like your plan more than mine," she said with a smile, feeling slightly better with Marty's reassurances. She knew that he couldn't guarantee anything, but the fact that he was trying made her feel warm and happy inside. "I love you so much. You know that, right? You're the best boyfriend." She didn't care if he believed it or not; she knew that it was true.

She nodded. "Soon. I need to get out of here for a while, do something normal, but I'll talk to G first and see when it's good for his blood pressure." She grinned. "No, and you'd be bored there. Cheerleader isn't your thing, and I think we both had enough of ice skating for a while."

Savannah grinned. "Good, then I'll ask her tomorrow after class. She needs something other than BDUs anyway. Those things are so rough and itchy, and I want to get something nice for him. I'll get something from Sam and G, because they'll never think about it. Any preference on what we get him? I was thinking clothes and something else, something fun, although I'm not sure what he does for fun, maybe some CDs or DVDs, but it also feels like more research since it's not our CDs or movies."

"I know." And maybe the best boyfriend title was taking it a step too far, but he was glad he could reassure Savannah at least in this small way. He might not know exactly what she was thinking, but this was enough for the moment - the rest would just take time.

He nodded. "I think it's time we put our Olympic dreams on hold for now - though maybe we'll pick it up again in time for the next winter games." He wondered briefly if they even did that here. But he could definitely do with a little normal time away from the base.

"Yes she does," And he didn't doubt that Kensi would agree with that sentiment - though perhaps time out with Savannah hadn't been factored into her original assessment of getting something other than the BDUs to wear. "Have you thought to ask him?" Marty wondered, or maybe that was against the whole birthday gift giving rule. He didn't really do that often, and when it did money was almost always what he gave. There were exceptions of course, but they were rare. "But music and movies are generally a pretty safe bet with a guy his age - it's all a question of the right sort." Which in this case was made all the more difficult with the differences.

"How about we shelf this conversation for now though, I believe I've promised to show you some of my dance moves." He grinned at her and pressed a quick kiss to the corner of her mouth. "What do you say?"

This was why she loved him so much. No matter how bad she felt, he could make her laugh. It never felt like he was dismissing her concerns, but always that he was trying to make her smile, which he did successfully. "Well, if we must, but only because the season is over," she said, chuckling. "Should we pick up something else? Baseball is starting and I'm sure I'd look cute in one of those uniforms, except... I can't play. Unless we're going for the summer Olympics, in which case we have to pick a specialty."

Savannah rolled her eyes. "It's a birthday. Gifts are supposed to be a surprise. I can't just ask him. That would ruin the point of getting a gift. It's not like he can't go and buy what we buy him. The point is to show that we care enough to buy things for him." She sighed. "Haven't you ever bought gifts before? What did you do at home?" She waved a hand. "Oh never mind, I should know better than to ask you about gifts at home." With what she knew of their lives, she was willing to bet that gifts were rare. "Let's go dance."
