RP: New Year's Eve Party
Who: Public
Where: Savannah's room
When: December 31, 2010
Summary: It's time to watch the ball drop

This wasn't the party that she had imagined. She had visioned that they would be in their own house, with everything cooked to perfection, but this was something she could do and instead of worrying about what could have been, she did her best to make this as welcoming as possible.

Savannah had obtained as much food as possible from the commissary. It turned out that they cooked, so there was thinly sliced roast beef that could fold it and eat it without a knife. She had made a tuna spread to go with it. It also seemed that many of the soldiers were from the South, which meant that she could find fried chicken wings. There were also plenty of chips, cheese spreads, cheese fondue, nachos, dates, nuts, and whatever finger food she could find. There was also a chocolate fondue, cookies and pies for dessert. Soda, beer and some spumante for the midnight.

She got dressed for the occasion in a sparkly dress. There was whatever pop music they had here. She didn't know most of the singers, but she knew what she liked and what was appropriate for a party. Everything was as good as it was going to get, and they were together, and right now, she didn't think that they could ask for much more. As the night progressed, she made sure that everyone was happy and having fun (or as much as you could in such small quarter). With food, music and beer, they just needed to wait for the ball to come down at midnight.

She spent a good chunk of time working on the evidence they collected over the last few days; she couldn't find Caf-Pow anywhere on base and was stuck with Red Bull for now. Still, Abby was able to find time to run to the thrift shore for a couple changes of clothing. She got a pair of better boots. The email about a New Year's Eve party was surprising, but made Abby very happy. There hadn't been very much time to talk with everyone.

She wore new dress to the party along with her boots. She picked up a soda and crossed the room.

"Hi! Happy New Year's Eve!"

G hated New Year's. But, as he refused to talk about the reasons why with anyone except for Sam that one year, he'd come to Savannah's party to avoid explaining why he was opposed to January First any year. And at least he didn't have to get all dressed up. The usual turtleneck and jeans were just fine.

He was just getting out of the last of his outer gear when Abby made her way over. Turning to her, he grinned. "Well, if it isn't Abby Sciuto," he teased. "Happy New Year's Eve. How are you settling in, Abby?"

Abby smiled at Callen; she hadn't realized how much she missed the LA office until her arrival a few days ago. "It's not home, but will do," she said. The coffin bed she slept in was vastly superior to the normal mattress she was using at that time. "Although, I hadn't been able to find anyone who knows what a Caf-Pow is. I've been reduced to Red Bull."

Making a face at the only energy drink, she shrugged. I'll just have to experiment until I find the right combo. "How about you? Have you been here very long? Eric said you were on assignment."

G chuckled. "I said the same thing about In-N-Out and Tommy's Burgers when I got here. I'm holding out the hope it's just the fact I'm stuck on the east coast and if we ever get to L.A. here, they'll have proper fast food."

Moving a bit so they weren't blocking the door for other guests coming in and so that he had a better view of the room, he shrugged, checking the impulse to ask after his team until he'd answered her question. "Sam and I got here just before Halloween. Chasing down a suspect through an alley downtown and slipped through without really noticing until cars appeared out of nowhere. The Director's men caught up to us when we went for the safe house to regroup. He and Hetty were already here, but we were the first after they had the base set-up."

The fact there were proportionately so many more NCIS agents here than any other still niggled at him. Suspicious of everything, he couldn't help wondering if it was by design.

"How is my team, Abby?" he asked, unable to hold back any longer. "Eric sounds okay? He say anything about Kensi or Nell? Ty and the techs?" He chuckled. "How's Gibbs, for that matter? Vance disappears and then half of OSP and no one tells him anything, I'm asuming?"

Savannah waited when G was alone to leave Marty. She grabbed two bottles of beer and handed G one. It was that or jumping on his and kissing him, and she thought that he'd appreciate the beer more. She could indulge him on New Year's. "Are you having fun?" she asked with a grin.

"Not exactly your won personal PR, but people get to mingle and get to know everyone." She took a sip of the beer, careful of how much she drank. She could never hold her liquor well, and passing out wasn't an option. "I don't want to bother you, but I was hoping that you could help me with something. You know Sam well, right? I need to know what kind of deal I can make so he stops talking to Martin about me. He's creating problems for no reason, and he's confusing Martin for no reason."

G actually grinned when she handed him a beer. As greetings went, it was subdued for Savannah. But, that suited his mood just fine. "I haven't killed anyone yet," he teased, figuring she had likely heard something from either Deeks or Sam by now about the running joke amoung all them that G hated crowds -- not strictly true, but the illusion let him out of a lot of boring events.

"Just as important." Taking a swig of his own beer, he swallowed it slowly. He wasn't sure what to expect when she asked for his help. With Savannah, one never knew. And she didn't disappoint. Of course, he knew what Sam had talked to Deeks about and he knew what Sam's impressions had been of the situation. But, he was curious to hear hers before he committed to anything. "Before I can suggest anything, I need to know the problem. What sort of problem is he creating? How is Deeks confused?"

Other than the part where he was too old and if he wasn't into her, just someone he was going to do more damage than he could imagine...

"It would really suck if you killed someone. After all the efforts I'm putting at being happy and friendly," she said, laughing. "I don't think team spirit works as well when you kill its members."

Savannah nodded. "I know, and I told you that I'd help. I can still be the cheer committee; it's what I do best and naturally anyway. I don't need to fake it," she said, with a smile.

"It's very simple. Stop talking to him about us," she said with a shrug. "It can't get any more basic. There is no problem, but Sam seems to think that there is one, and it's twisting Marty for no reason. I know he doesn't want relationships, I know he's not marrying me. He told me long before we started making out, so he's not lying to me, but he's also not you or Sam. For all of his ideas about not having relationships, he likes to be around people, to be close to them, and we're going to be together regardless of what Sam thinks."

"I'd better not kill anyone, then," he said with a chuckle. Smiling, he nodded. "You did. And, this is good."

"Ah." He'd had a feeling that was what this was about. G regarded her in silence for a moment, worried himself about how attached she was to Deeks. They never spoke of him that she wasn't either praising him or protecting him. G wondered if she even saw how far in over her head she was already. And he really was glad for the beer bottle in his hand keeping him from being able to clench it into a fist at the thought of Deeks and Savannah making out. What was Deeks' thinking? Was he thinking? "Is that what you are? Together? Dating?

"The thing is, Savannah, Sam's talking to Deeks because he's worried about both of you. You're not going to be able to bargain him out of this. You might ask him not to get involved. But, I don't think you're going to get him to trade something for it."

Savannah/Morgan

Savannah was going to be the best hostess possible, so as soon as she left G, she moved onto the next guest. Morgan, her partner, the word made her giggle to herself. Really, the poor man was only humoring her, she was sure of that. She had no idea about securities regulations, computers, money laundering, or any of that.

"Hey," she greeted him with a big smile. "Are you having fun? Do you need anything? More food? More drinks? There's plenty and if you want something that you don't see, just whistle, I'm sure I can whip something up for you."

Even with her heels, she was more than half a foot shorter than all the men. She'd heard girls complain about that, but it didn't bother her. She always felt safe around big men. They were the ones there to catch her on the mat. So she put a hand on his arm for balance, and took her shoes off. "Sorry about that. I can't take it anymore. I really hate heels, although my mom always said that it was important to wear them, makes your legs and butt look better. I think they are torture and if people don't like me because of my height, then there isn't much I can do."

"I'm fine, but thank you." He wanted to tell her that if he wanted something not here, he could get it for himself and there was no reason to wait on anyone hand and foot, even when you were the hostess.

And then she was off, rambling about heels and how they made her butt look better, and good Lord he did not need to know that. Talking to Savannah was turning out to be like talking to a Penelope who was ten years younger and eighteen times as naive. The girl had a good head though, even it was wrapped up with an idiot like Marty Deeks.

"Well done the other day," he said after a minute. "I realize being on the case was not something you wanted, but you handled yourself well."

"Really, if you change your mind, don't be shy." These agent types were all tall and broody, and needed to relax.

She laughed. "Thank you, but I'm sure I could have handled it better." G's little speech about keeping an eye on them and trying to protect everyone was still too fresh on her mind to let her dislike of law enforcement shine through.

Savannah smiled and shrugged. "I'm just not used to this, any of this. Going to nationals before finishing college has been my biggest concern until I got here. We were going to make it too." She wondered how they were doing without her. Alice would have probably taken her place, and hopefully she and Marti hadn't killed each other. "I don't like guns either, but I suppose they are making us learn how to use them." She had a deal with G about that anyone, but there was a difference between being safe around them and learning how to shoot. "You have no problem with them. How long have you worked with the...something in the FBI? I'm sorry, I'm having a hard time keeping track of all the acronyms."

The midnight was approaching. They had a bottle to open when the ball touched the ground, but there were also two bottles opened already and she filled the glasses (or the plastic martini glasses she had found) for all of them, leaving them there for people to serve themselves.

She took two glasses and went to Marty. "It's almost time," she said, handing one to him.

"Are you having fun?" She seemed to be asking that a lot tonight, but she wanted people to be happy. She wanted Marty to be happy even more.

She took his hand and raised her head so she could kiss him. "I've spent too much time playing hostess. You could come and find me if you want company."

Marty had been enjoying the party, it was easier to relax and just pretend to be normal when you were surrounded by beer and little cheeses. And it gave him a chance to catch up with some of the others during the night as things progressed. He didn't flit around making sure everyone was having a good time the way Savannah seemed to be, but he did make a few rounds himself.

"It is." He agreed, midnight was fast approaching and they were going to ring in the new year.

He chuckled and nodded. "I am having a good time," He assured her, and he didn't doubt that she'd asked everyone that at least once so far tonight, and it wouldn't surprise him if she got in another round before the night was over. "What about you? Are you having a good time? Or are you too busy running around making sure everyone else is having fun?"

He grinned into the kiss, and shook his head when she answered his question almost without meaning to. "I'm fine, it's not the first party I've been to." He reminded her.

"Good. I want you to." She nodded. "I am, even while being busy. This is something that I know how to do and I enjoy, and seeing people happy makes me happy. It's nice to see everyone enjoying themselves.'

She pouted when she thought about the ones that weren't here. "Sam and G left early. I don't know what happened. They just left without saying anything. I'll have to check on them and see what's going on. Not now, of course, but tomorrow."

She grinned back. "I'm sure you went to a lot of better parties. We've all heard about LA and the things that go on there, but no matter how cool those parties are, you are smiling, so that's good."

"Well you've made it easy for us to do that." He assured her, it was amazing what a few finger foods did for morale - that and calling something a party. It was easier to have a good time if you were at a party than if you were at a meeting or a gathering.

Marty shrugged when Savannah mentioned that Sam and Callen had left. "I'm sure they have some kind of secret partner tradition for ringing in the new year." He told her, though that much he wasn't sure of, but preferred that explanation for their disappearance than anything else. "They've worked together long enough to have traditions after all."

He had been to better parties, bigger parties, louder parties, but for what they had here, he'd take this party and be glad for it. "You've heard about what goes on in LA?" He asked her, an amused grin on his face. "What have you heard? About the animal sacrifices or the tribal dancing?" He teased her.

He shrugged. "Nah, I wouldn't have offered to come by tomorrow if I didn't want to spend time with you." He reminded her. "We watched games with them on Christmas, and they can have New Year's Day to themselves."

He was surprised though when in the same breath Savannah offered to find something else to do, and then started talking about having sex and making out for a job. Just what had she and Callen been talking about? "Um the kind of undercover work I've done isn't really the same sort Callen has done. I'm more likely to pretend to be a lawyer than I am to fake a relationship. Though I have on occasion done a little making out on the job." He told her shrugging, it was never really a big deal, and maybe in the future something he'd do would require a bit more than that, but he'd worked in narcotics, there wasn't generally a lot of need for faked sex in that line of work. "I think I can handle a little honesty." He assured her with a quick grin. He really doubted he'd find himself in a situation where he had to do anything like she was suggesting though.

Chuckling Marty nodded. "Exactly." Glad she seemed to have caught on to his teasing about the size of dogs - hearing what he'd left unsaid.

Savannah giggled. "That sounds like we're leaving two lovebirds to themselves. I don't think you should tell them that way. I can probably pull it off, but they wouldn't be as kind if you tell them."

She nodded. "He did say that not everyone has to do it, but I'm telling you right now, that it's okay, just tell me." She rested her head against his chest. She didn't like it, she could never understand how they'd have sex for a job, but at least it wouldn't be as bad as it was with Dan. "I told him I won't do it, though, but he says I won't have to, so it's okay, I guess."

She pulled back. "We should probably mingle."

Never had she bought a dress for a party with such haste as today, but she was quite happy with the little black dress that was the result. So it was with a certain amount of confidence (a bit more than usual at least) that she had gone to the party.

She was holding a glass in her hand and trying out some of the finger food at the moment, determining what to try next while trying not to think of what her friends were doing back in Seattle. This was a party, there was food, music, something to drink... she should focus on that and just keep smiling. Thinking about home was useless. A new year, in a new place - it was time to move on and make the best of things.

She smiled as she looked up from the table, looking for someone to talk to.

Savannah had promised herself to talk to everyone, not just once, but more than that. You couldn't have friends if you didn't talk to them. So when she left Marty, she went and found April.

"Hey there." She knew that of all of the people here, April was the one that was much like her. "This is strange, isn't it? Being in a room filled with agents," she explained. She had meant that everyone else here had guns and was probably watching the one door and few windows, but then she remembered that April didn't like guns.

"Did you get the email about this new identities and names? It's kind of cool, at least the part where we get paid. I never really worked. I got a scholarship for my school, but I never worked, although I wouldn't have picked a job with the federal government. Ever," she said. "Did you come up with a name yet? We're supposed to know everyone's names and use them when we're out there, which will be really weird."

She smiled wider when Savannah approached her. She felt comfortable around her, and knew that Savannah didn't just tolerate her but actually liked her. "Hi," she said. "You've done such a great job of this, not to mention that you make sure - again - that we have somewhere to be and food to eat. You should have asked me to help," she added. "I would have."

She looked around as Savannah pointed out that it was strange, nodding as Savannah finished. She didn't need to be reminded to notice the guns. "It is. This is not the kind of company I'd choose for myself. But, I'll try my best, as you already are," she said with a smile.

"So you and Martin?" she asked. "I guessed there was something there the first time you mentioned him but it seems to be a bit more than 'great hair and smile' now. Are you dating?"

She laughed at the enthusiasm at the email. "I thought about Reed," she said. "But I settled for Emma, and I figured Johnson is common enough." she smiled as she shrugged. "Being paid is nice, having my real job would be nicer, but I'll take what I can get. G mentioned giving me the option of finishing my residency, but I'm not sure how since it would require a hospital for me to work at. I guess I'll just see what happens, but yes, it will be weird. I don't know how I'm going to remember to answer to anything but my usual name."

"That's good, that you two had fun." Now, if they could get her to dress like a normal woman. Penelope dressed strangely, but she still looked like a woman, and Savannah liked all the bright colors.

Savannah shrugged. "I think everyone is too much into their careers and too little on the important things in life. What's so great about being an amazing doctor, cop, lawyer, whatever if you are alone and with no one to share your life with?" She raised an eyebrow. "So you know many doctors that are in long term marriages with children and haven't gotten divorced, separated, had affairs?" She might have been brought up religious, but she'd heard plenty of gossip. That's all most of the housewives did when their husbands were at work.

She shook her head. "You can't be the perfect whatever and the perfect wife and mother. I'll take the family over any job." She took a deep breath, because she knew how unlikely that was too happen here, but she wouldn't give up so easily. "I will do it, too. Even if we never get back. Nothing is more important than family."

She could hardly believe the question. What was great about being an amazing doctor? "Everything," she answered, and her very voice changed as she said it, the passion coming through as she went on. "There is nothing that can possibly compare to the feeling when you've saved a life or helped someone to a better life. I can't even explain it, it's this amazing rush of knowing that you did something that was utterly good, and then pride of knowing that it was your skill, your hard work that saved that person, or made their life better." She smiled widely. "I'm not sure I explain it well, I just know that it's the most amazing feeling ever." Just as losing someone was the worst feeling. She didn't think of that now, though, but instead answered Savannah's question.

"Meredith and Derek has been together for years, they're married and are trying to have their first child and granted he's divorced since before but I can't think of anyone more stable than the two of them." Even if there had been a time when she'd wished that wasn't so. "I'm not sure how long Owen and Christina have been together but he stands by her even if she's acting strangely at the moment, she's not handling the aftermath of the shooting very well, she's stopped being a doctor at the moment but everyone is hoping she'll return." She paused and took a breath before she went on. "I could go on, but you don't know any of them it has to be just names for you, but yes, I know doctors who are or were happily married. I know those who are not too, but I'm quite certain there are break-ups, divorces or affairs even amongst those who work at the super market or the unemployed."

Privately she wondered if that was the only future any of them could hold in this world. If they were stuck here in this dimension, then what? Even if they got their training, could they move out of this base and have proper lives eventually? Or were they stuck here forever? She'd never be the future of medicine, she'd never be a good agent no matter what badges they gave her. Finding someone to create a family with might be all that was left. That thought only made her depressed though, unlike Savannah April didn't see any happiness in that. "Like you said," she said. "You have to find what is right for you, and I what is right for me. I just hope we can both find it here if we have to."

After speaking to Savannah, April decided to take the opportunity to speak to this Hetty she'd mentioned. If she was in charge of getting houses, she could at least found out what requirements there was for a house. Therefore, after refilling her glass, April walked up to her with a bright smile on her face.

"Hi", she said brightly. "I'm told you're Hetty?" she asked. "I'm April, though you probably know that already. I thought I'd introduce myself, and also I have a few questions, but we can get to them." She held out her hand, waiting for Hetty to take it.

"Dr. Kepner," Hetty said pleasantly, reaching up to take the younger woman's hand briefly. She did, of course, know who everyone of these people were. She had put together their profiles, looked into their lives here, and created profiles with hypothesis of their lives in their reality. She quite possibly knew them better than they did at the moment.

"What can I do for you, dear?"

"April, please," she said, seeing how she used the other woman's first name. To be honest she didn't even know the woman's last name at all. She was to the point, certainly, but April didn't mind that, instead she just smiled brightly in return.

"Well I was wondering about the requirements for getting a house," she said. "If we are to stay long here we might as well feel at home, and a house would be more a home than a hotel room could ever be. I was thinking that perhaps a few of us could share one, but before I start asking around I wanted to know about the possibilities and what you need to do." Or she could have stopped after requirements, but she never had the ability to talk in few words. Especially when she was uncertain of something.
