When love is your refuge
Characters: Happy and zombies and other city dwellers and omg someone could attack as a superpowered zombie, what
Setting: Around New York City
Content: Violence and the undead
Summary: In his nightmare, Happy is on a mission to find his wife and son in a post-zombifying-plague New York City.
Notes: Yeah, I know we’ve done zombies before but I’ve been watching The Walking Dead and I was compelled. Who doesn’t love killing zombies?
Edit: You know what. I want all of you here, even just making cameos. Everyone having surviving a zombie apocalypse instead of just going in rescuing a city. So after someone joins, feel free to jump in later as a new survivor or as a zombie yourself or something awesome.
These were people once. God, this was a man and he probably had a wife and a kid somewhere just like Happy did and here he’d just bashed the guy’s head in with a baseball bat. He stepped back from the corpse and reminded himself that he’d done the man a mercy, ended a fate worse than death. Still, that didn’t make it any easier putting them out of their misery, even after all this time. The last few weeks were a blur, he couldn’t recall much, except the force that drove him back into the city- finding Pepper and his son. It shouldn’t have taken so long to get back but the roads were impassable and any other mode of transport was unheard of.
Mostly he’d been going it on his own and any relationships he’d made since this hellish trip began were transitory, a means to an end, survive together awhile and then part ways. They had other places to go and he had his family to find. New York City was the last place he wanted to be, one of the epicenters of the breakout. The sickness acted fast and spread even faster. Nothing he’d ever seen (and being a native New Yorker, he’d seen a lot of weird stuff) could prepare Happy for the carnage and the violence and the disgust of animated corpses devouring a living breathing human beings. And animals. And pretty much anything else they could get their scrabbling hands on. The tragedy of it, the worst part, was the knowledge of what all of these creatures used to be.
“Life’s not fair,” he muttered to himself as he turned away from the man he’d just beaten down. Death wasn’t very fair, either. Shouldering his bat, Happy peeked around a corner of a building and then made a mad dash across a street for an alleyway and a door swinging off its hinges. He needed to forage for food and, if he was lucky, find some other survivors to give him a better idea of how things were here in the city. Though, if the streets full of half-eaten bodies and thousands of shuffling zombies was any indication, things weren’t going well.
