WESTWORLD: DAY SEVEN; EVENING
Tonight is the unveiling of the Parks' creator, Dr. Robert Ford's, latest Narrative, Journey Into Night. If you listen carefully to the talk around the fancy tables, some of these people are stockholders in the Park, part of Delos Incorporated. Ford is resigning this evening, but he isn't resigning because he wants to. People are pissed that he's made this new narrative without talking it out with the Board or the stockholders. They think he's a failing old man.
Listen closer, and you'll hear tell of coding that makes the Hosts remember their previous loops AKA what people have done to them in the Park. Some people will tell you that's ridiculous; those loops are inaccessible to the Hosts. And if they COULD remember, then... hahah god help us all. Because these people have done some shit to them — And they're bragging about it.
After a while of mingling, Robert Ford heads up on stage. He does look like a fragile old man — Kira, you will recognize him as the man who told the tiny robot to Turn the Other Cheek — in body, but his eyes... They are vibrant and there's a depth that tells you he's got one more trick up his sleeve. He grabs a glass of champagne off a tray as he heads up and looks out at the audience in front of Escalante's general store.
Good evening, everyone. Welcome. Since I was a child, I've always loved a good story. I believed that stories helped us to ennoble ourselves. To fix what was broken in us. To help us become the people we dreamed of being. Lies, that told a deeper truth. I always thought I could play some small part in that grand tradition. And, for my pains, I got... this. A narrative catering to your darkest fantasies and deepest vices. Cause you don't want to change. Or cannot change. Because you're only human, after all.Murmurs go around the party. People are confused, annoyed, frustrated. Some are muttering under their breath about what an idiot he is.
But then I realized someone was paying attention. Someone who could change. So I began to compose a new story -- for them. For who?
It begins with the birth of a new people. And the choices they will have to make. And the people they will decide to become. And it will have all those things that you have always enjoyed. Surprises. And violence. It begins in a time of war, with a villain named Wyatt. And a killing. This time, by choice. I'm sad to say this will be my final story. The crowd is utterly confused by now, but some are relieved because this means he is retiring. Now they just want to get it over with.
Dolores Abernathy, the Rancher's daughter, is in a blue dress. She walks up onto the stage with her arms behind her back, prim and proper. She must be part of the story he's talking about, right? She stops behind him.
An old friend once told me something that gave me great comfort. Something he'd read. He said that "Mozart, Beethoven and Chopin never died. They simply became music."She lifts a gun from behind her back and shoots Robert Ford in the back of the head. He collapses. Dolores doesn't stop there, though, she starts shooting out into the audience, looking to kill. And if you get in her way, you will be next.So I hope you will enjoy this last piece very much.
On the outskirts of the party, all those Hosts who were scattered out in the wilderness are lined up there. It's robot revolution time. Human, Host? If you're not on their side, you're toast.
