Who: Warren OTA
What: Chillaxing
When: Mid-morning
Where: Library
Rating: Can't imagine it'll go over PG.

Warren felt about ten years younger when he woke up his first morning as an official resident of Xavier's rather than a guest. The only difference was that he was on the staff floor and not the student. Still, memories of his time here before came back easily and occupied his thoughts as he got ready for the day. His first day there was an inevitable remembrance. Sadness was heavy in the air then, the professor having so recently died, Scott Summers disappearing and being presumed dead, and Jean Grey choosing the enemy over her family. There were many days of uncertainty back then though the happy times that followed were priceless and some of his favorite memories of all.

Once showered and dressed in jeans and custom tailored button down blue shirt, Warren went to the staff kitchen to grab a muffin and a cup of coffee. From there he went down to the first floor to set up shop for a little while. He was having some trusted contractors come out to take a look at the damage that was still in a state of repair and get their assessment. They were the best in historical reconstruction and were discreet. It would not be a quick or cheap fix, but it would be done right and leave no evidence of damage ever having been done.

In the library he found a comfortable chair at one of the long tables set up for studying. He brought his laptop, which he now turned on, and a handful of files and papers. There were things he needed to get done before his guys arrived and they were part of his morning ritual at work. Check and reply to emails, proof working copies of several things going into print either for articles, letters, or various other publications. There were a few calls to return and a meeting to set up. He could have just done all of this in hos room but then what would have been the point of being at the mansion?

Warren finished his second cup of coffee as he finished his morning work and decided to plug in the zip drive Kitty had given him. He still had a little time to kill and he'd promised to look at her presentation as soon as he could. Now was as good a time as any.

With a nod Tabby grabbed one of the somewhat overused coffee cops and once it was filled added enough sugar and creamer to kill a small elephant. Glad that she'd been distracted from possibly being stuck inside reading Tabby took the seat next to Warren's, leaned back until the front two of her chair were up in the air and smiled at him as she took a healthy sip of the now sweet and just a little bitter drink.

"I'm aces babe. I went and did the nomad thing for a while before I headed back here. What about you Angel cakes?"

Tabby had always been the one to let everything roll of her back. In times of fear or crisis she was usually the one trying to get people to perk up and look from a different perspective. If she'd ever had a day of depression, Warren would have been surprised. He watched her pour her coffee and then kill it with sugar and creamer. His face suggested he wasn't sure how that could even be called coffee anymore. When she sat, Warren returned to his computer and sat as well.

"Nomad thing, eh? Was it a journey to find yourself or did you just get bored with being around here?" He took a careful sip of his coffee before setting it on the table. Reaching back, her laced his fingers together behind his head in a casual manner. "Me, I've been busy as usual." He was beginning to realize how much he'd missed this place after being away for so long. It was a good wake up call for him to not let work get the bulk of his attention lest it take over his life. "Never a dull moment, I'm afraid. Apparently it's the same way here, as usual. Want to fill me in?"

"Bit of both I guess? I needed some time to myself to go all Jedi and kick up my feet without having to worry about some weird dude in a monkey suit planning domination on the supers." She had enjoyed not having to worry about anyone but herself for a little while, but sooner or later her strive for attention started getting her in trouble and putting her in more and more dangerous situations. She had luckily come home before anything got to out of hand-glad that she knew there would be one place that always had a bed waiting for her.

"I'm glad you came back Warren. Kind of isn't the same without everybody. But as for what went down? Some anti-mutants went crackers when the cure started wearing off and decided to attack the mansion. It didn't go too hot for anybody."

No worries! It's about to go off the f-page so I might end it soon.

Warren nodded knowingly. As much as he loved being here, it was so different from the life he'd led growing up and the life he was leading now, being a full time resident would never be enough for him. With Tabitha's background, it was no surprise she felt the same way at times. "People like us have a hard time staying in one place for long. Still..." He trailed off, looking around the vast library with a warm smile. "Somehow this place will always be home." A place to go when no one else wanted him and he didn't want anyone else. Not many people had a haven like Xavier's and for that, Warren knew how lucky he and the rest of them were.

His smile turned into a grin at Tabby's comment. "Did you miss me, Tabs? Or did you miss having a scape-goat for your pranks?" It was teasing but friendly teasing. He knew what she meant. There were certain people who'd been staples in his mansion life for awhile that were no longer there. It felt strange. "I'll be around for awhile. At least that's the plan. I'm working on some security issues and trying to find the weak spots, get rid of faulty backdoor codes that would give us a weakness." His smile faded into a serious expression, eyes flickering toward his laptop. "This place has been attacked two too many times and I don't want to see it happen again."

He shook his head and sighed. "Growing up with my father, I can kind of understand why some people would lose it if their powers came back. It's hard when the people who are supposed to love you the most in the world, no matter what, decide you're no longer good enough for them because of a gift you have." Years ago there would have been bitterness there. But Warren and his father had come to an understanding, even a basic respect for one another. "It's fear that drives them and that deep, basic longing to be loved again. If only they'd known that the people here could help them. Sometimes real family doesn't even hold a candle to the family that's made here."

"Pfft. Me? Miss you? Nahh." Her face stayed serious for barely a second before she broke into her signature joyful smile and elbowed him gently in the side-hoping it was enough to prove she did in fact miss him.

The mention of fathers and anti-mutant supporters made her visibly straighten up. She could hide so many emotions but after years of seeing herself, and other children being verbally, mentally and sometimes psychically beaten down for contradicting people's definition of 'normal' she'd lost patience for anyone who looked down on her for keeping the one thing that set her apart from every other mediocre twenty something.
"I know their scared, but its no excuse to try and shank the entire mutant pop. for wanting to just be who they are."
