Coming back to say goodbye
Who: Rogue OT Erik and anyone else
What: Erik wanted to talk. So they'll talk.
When: Friday, noonish
Where: Somewhere in the school? TBD
Rating: PG to start

It wasn't like Rogue was wishing for something terrible to happen so she could say "I told you so" to Ororo, but she was certainly waiting for it to happen. She was confident it would happen. With the way things were beginning to heat up in the man versus mutant area, it would only be a matter of time before Magneto reminded everyone exactly who he was, and Ro would be forced to recognize what a terrible choice she'd made. The man had been powerful before; with a return of power to the umpteenth degree, there was honestly no telling what he could do and what he was hiding.

There wasn't a lot in her room to pack, but she'd been there long enough to have acquired enough stuff that a few boxes needed to be packed and carried down to the garage. Before she started that, she'd sent Erik a quick email to let him know she was around and he could find her if he wanted to chat. It was morbid curiosity that had her wanting to talk to him. She wanted to know what kind of excuses and ideals he'd use to justify things. Nothing he said could change her mind about him, or about leaving. But she wanted to hear what he had to say none the less.

Her door was open and quiet music came from her laptop as she packed. If anyone happened to walk by, they'd be able to see exactly what she was doing. And she couldn't have cared less.

"Yeah, 'cause my leavin' means I've turned my back on everythin' an' everyone. Good conclusion." She refused to let him rile her. If he was after something in her reaction, Rogue would not be giving it to him. With the combination of personalities inside her now, his being one of them, she was learning how to convey a front of calm detachment.

Instead of sitting in the chair opposite him, Rogue continued putting things into the couple of boxes she had left. "I ain't goin' far, don't you worry about that." She crouched to put a few books into the box. "Just down the road, really. Don't wanna be too far when you show your true face an' my family needs me." She straightened and crossed her arms, turning to face Erik. "This is kinda like a teenager who needs to prove they know what they're doin'. Inevitably the kid fails and needs help from someone reliable." Leaning on the back of the unoccupied chair, Rogue smirked. "Ro is the teenager in this scenario, in case you missed that. You would be the sex, drugs, rock and roll, insert whatever you want. I would be the one who was right in the end."

She went back to packing, asking over her shoulder, "An' what will you be doin' with your time? You an' I both know bein' a teacher ain't enough for you. An' once Lorna is in control of her issues and, undoubtedly, in your debt forever thus becomin' one of your fangirls, I can't see you bein' content playin' Mr. Rogers. You've had plenty of time to think about what would happen if you ever got your powers back. I know you've got somethin' up your sleeve."

"So young, to be so bitter. But I suppose you would be." he mused as he studied the young woman. "I believe - as I have always believed - that you could be a very useful young woman to have around." he said. "And my plans are, for the time being, my own. The war is here, Rogue." he said firmly. "This latest insult to the Mansion, the unprovoked attacks on mutants around the country, is but another skirmish to be fought." he said. "Miss Munroe sees it coming, as I do. I have seen these sorts of things before." he reminder her a touch uncharitably. "I have forsaken the Brotherhood in favor of working with those I believe have the best chance to give our people a fighting chance at victory."

"I ain't just bitter. I'm also justified in my jaded outlook." Rogue uncrossed her arms and swung around to sit in the chair to face Erik. "Like I said, I'll be close enough so that when somethin' goes wrong, I can be here in a flash." Green eyes turned away, thoughtful for a quick moment. "Too bad I never touched Kurt. His ability would be real handy to have."

Turning back to Erik, Rogue regarded him with an unreadable expression. "See, now that's where my problem with you. I just can't wrap my mind around you bein' all guarded and Ro lettin' you be here. If I were here, I'd tell ya to take Lorna an' help her somewhere else." her smile was quite sarcastic. "But that's just me."

She couldn't sit still anymore. All the personalities inside her head kept wanting her to do other things, keep busy, reach certain goals. Because of this, she was once more on her feet and keeping her hands busy. "I know what you've seen." For the first time ever in conversation with him, there was something other than hatred and sarcasm in her tone, There was empathy. She tapped the side of her head. "Got it in here." She glanced over her shoulder at him. "I know what you're afraid is gonna happen again. I'm afraid of it too. An' I'm afraid of how it'll all end. it's the in between we don't agree on."

After a moment she asked, "So why did you wanna talk to me?"

"You're a runner." he said plainly. "You meet a challenge - the drudgery of life in the American South, your gifts, your social difficulties - and rather than stand and fight, your first thought is to run." he said. "I cannot protect you if you are in ... Alaska, was it? Someplace like that." he mused. "And not here. So now you've met another challenge - your distrust of me is well-justified and I do not challenge its right to exist - and what do you do?" he asked rhetorically.

"You flee."

"That's the second time you've mentioned Alaska. What's that all about?" Was there something she was supposed to be remembering about Alaska that was slipping her mind? Were other memories too dominant and overbearing that they blocked out others? There was a quick moment of panic, making her forget who she was, where she was, who she was talking to and why. It showed in her face.

Erik called her a runner.

"You runnin' again?" She could still feel the shock at seeing Logan on that train as though it were the very day she'd run away from Xavier's. The triggered memory helped her get a grip on herself.

"I got a fleet in my brain, their powers at my disposal." She didn't mention that they came and left at will, all completely hinging on her mental and emotional status. They controlled her, not the other way around. "You think I need your protection?" A quick laugh passed her lips. "That's the most amusin' thing I heard all day." She shrugged. "Yeah, I'm a runner. I've always been a runner. So what? You still haven't answered my question."
