Casting: Both Katee Sackhoff and Rose McGowan to play Teddy Lowe?

According to EW's Ausiello, it looks like *both* Katee Sackhoff and Rose McGowan are going to play Dr. Theodora "Teddy" Lowe, a potential love interest for Sean. If I understand what he's saying, the episodes filmed with Katee will air as is for the second half of S5, but for S6 in 2010, she will mysteriously morph into Rose McGowan, much like a soap opera recasting.

Question: A while back you reported that Rose McGowan was replacing Katee Sackhoff as a guest star on Nip/Tuck. But there are clips from the new season that show Katee on the show. What's the scoop? Is Rose still replacing her? -- Tara

Ausiello: Yes, but it's complicated. You see, Katee originated the role of anesthesiologist Teddy Rowe in the latter part of Nip/Tuck's 5th season -- which got a very late start in production due to the writers strike. (The remaining eight episodes of season 5 will begin airing on Jan. 6.) When season 6 began production, Katee was no longer available, so e.p. Ryan Murphy hired Rose to assume the role. Actually, that wasn't so complicated after all.

New Nip/Tuck promos

Per Ryan Murphy, FX will be running two new Nip/Tuck promos during the first week of September during the premiere week of The Shield.

The spots showcase clips from the season we just shot and finished editing, which premieres in January. The clips (teasingly) tell you what happened to Sean after Colleen Rose stabbed him, Christian's future, and a sneak peak at many of our great upcoming envelope-pushing patients.

The wait is over: next week, you will all get a glimpse of the new season of Nip/Tuck. The marketing song of the season, by the way, is "Flashing Lights" by Mr. K. West himself. I love the glamour and menace and intrigue of the new teaser spots, and look forward to your thoughts.

Poor Sean in a casket...

End of Nip/Tuck

FX nips "Tuck" after one more season

"Nip/Tuck" will come to an end after the plastic surgery drama's sixth season wraps in early 2011, cable channel FX said Tuesday.

The network said serialized dramas, such as "Nip/Tuck," have a much different storytelling model than nonserialized shows such as "Law & Order" or "CSI."

"If you tried to do 150 episodes of 'The Sopranos,' you would begin to diminish the quality of those shows," FX president/GM John Landgraf said during the network's presentation at the Television Critics Assn. press tour in Beverly Hills.

"The David Chases ('Sopranos') and Shawn Ryans ('The Shield'), they're taking on social commentary and grand sweeping questions. If we want to go after that brass ring, we have to accept they have limited shelf life."

FX has ordered 19 additional episodes beyond the current 22-episode season that will mark final season. The show will end its run with a total of 100 episodes in early 2011, with creator/executive producer Ryan Murphy signed on through the last episode.

"Nip/Tuck" has already aired 14 episodes of its current fifth season; the remaining eight are set to premiere in January.

Spoilers from Ausiello

Snip, snip. )

BTW, good and bad news regarding how the strike's affecting McNamara/Troy. As you'll recall, 22 episodes were ordered last year, to be divided into two seasons. The good news is that all 14 eps for Season 2 were completed before the strike and will air through Feb. 19. (No new episodes air on Dec. 25, Jan. 1 or Jan. 8. See, I'm not the only one taking off.) The bad news is that the eight episodes for Season 6 have not been written, so they've been postponed indefinitely.

Some early presents for "Nip/Tuck" fans

Next Tuesday "Nip/Tuck," one of those shows that I can't quit even though it has given me plenty of reasons over the years, returns for a new season (at 10 p.m. on FX).

Sean and Christian's latest adventures come with a fresh setting – they've moved the practice from Miami to L.A., Ground Zero for plastic surgery hijinks.

But the only familiar territory in season five is their area of professional expertise. The guys have to re-establish themselves in a highly competitive and closed environment, a concept more crippling to sex-hound Christian's style than to Sean's.

NY Daily News article

Nip/Tuck' gets a Hollywood face-lift

The game has changed this season for FX's "Nip/Tuck."

When viewers last saw Dr. Christian Troy and Dr. Sean McNamara, they had left their lucrative, but troubled, Miami plastic surgery practice for the bodywork capital of the world: Hollywood.

That's a good thing for the stories and the cast, says Dylan Walsh, who plays McNamara.

"It's been great, to be honest," says Walsh. "With a TV series, the stories are so much driven by the sets that you have, and you find yourself on the same set, in the same kitchen, for the 112th time having almost the same argument with your wife. The theme this year is we have a fresh start."

Nip/Tuck Goes Hollywood (Literally)

They're back. Miami's busiest plastic surgeons are back in business, but they've moved operations to Los Angeles, where they hope they'll duplicate some of their successes. The Nip/Tuck duo have a rough start, but soon, Sean and Christian have everything they think they want.

TV Guide hung out on the red carpet at Saturday's Nip/Tuck season premiere screening at Paramount Studios in Hollywood. While newly ultrathin star Joely Richardson was a no-show, and her former beau, John Hensley (who plays her son Matt on the FX series), slipped by reporters, some cast and crew were willing to share stories.

Courant.com article on season 5

Cutting Miami Ties
'Nip/Tuck' Relocates To Surgery-Crazed Beverly Hills

McNamara/Troy, the fictional TV plastic-surgery firm that specializes in implants, has itself become a transplant.

For the fifth season of "Nip/Tuck," which starts Tuesday on FX, the setting has changed from Miami to Beverly Hills.

Doctors Sean McNamara and Christian Troy, both newly single and middle-aged, are trying to break into a town where not only does the local economy seem built on silicone, but everybody seems to have had the work done already.
