Julian McMahon Says Nip/Tuck Move to LA Boosts ExcitementJulian McMahon, who just started production on the fifth season of FX's "Nip/Tuck" series, reports the show's new setting -- Los Angeles instead of Miami -- has "given a new injection of life to everything. "It's infused everybody with this relish and excitement that just breeds into the work. We've had characters that were specifically orientated to Miami, now we're having characters specifically orientated to Hollywood. There are new sets -- a new operating room, a frickin' amazing house in Malibu."
Being re-energized is just the ticket for McMahon. The actor, who plays self-absorbed, hedonistic Dr. Christian Troy in the drama, admits that even after some much-needed time off, he's still feeling the effects of playing Dr. Doom in the current big-screen "Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer." In order to continue his villainous role in the picture that opened at No. 1 earlier this month, "For a five-to-six month period, I was working on the series in Los Angeles and the movie in Vancouver, with no days off."
In one week alone, he says, he worked a Saturday, Sunday and Monday in Canada, flew back and worked in L.A. 'til that Friday. Then, "I was meant to leave at 3 o'clock Friday afternoon, get on a plane to Vancouver and then helicopter to a glacier. But we ran over on 'Nip/Tuck,' and I couldn't leave on time. Instead of getting the helicopter, I had to drive to the glacier. The car arrived at the location about 1:30 in the morning, and my call time for hair and makeup was 3:30. It took about three and a half hours to get into the Dr. Doom face and outfit, and then, out on the glacier all day, I had nowhere to sit and nowhere to go to the bathroom." So much for the glamorous movie star life.
