Who: L.L. and Bucky.
Where: One of Bucky's safe houses; New Jersey.
When: May 15th, 2017 (backdated).
What: L.L. and Bucky are forced to lay low in Jersey after HYDRA found their last location. They try to make the best out of a shitty situation while continuing the search for James and Loki.
Rating: Low. Just a little fluff within a super heavy plot.
It had been a little over a week since L.L. and Bucky's run-in with HYDRA and their move from the safe house in New York to one in New Jersey. The Jersey location seemed to be better equipped compared to the last one and had more to help distract them while they laid low. There was a small black and white television that just barely received the basic channels and a radio that allowed them to listen to music now that L.L.'s phone was destroyed. There was also a book shelf that housed mostly non-fiction texts that focused on the years between World War II and the present that Bucky had obviously collected so he could catch up on what he missed while forced to work for the Soviets.
While L.L. used these available sources of entertainment, Bucky would pour over maps in hopes of determining the location they took her friends based on the direction James' kidnappers escaped in. She would occasionally look over his shoulder and ask about his progress, but after a while she stopped asking. Constantly hearing that they had no new leads was discouraging, so she distanced herself from the whole process. There was little she could do but wait at the moment and she was determined to remain positive. It was hard, and she faltered at times, but she was doing her best because she was no use to anyone wallowing in misery and regret.
And there were definitely moments when she found herself feeling regret. So many things might have been avoided if she had acted differently. James might never have been taken by surprise and kidnapped if she had mentioned her fears about Loki. He wouldn't have been distracted by thoughts of his upcoming date because he wouldn't have even thought to go on it. At the time, L.L. thought she was doing him a favor by helping him focus on living his life as opposed to going out crime fighting, but she was mistaken. Though, maybe it would have all turned out okay if she hadn't been played by Olivia. She brought the HYDRA agent into their circle and allowed her the opportunity to learn more about Loki and James. If she hadn't been so damn trusting, HYDRA might not have had such an easy time finding and kidnapping the two. And if she hadn't been so quick to kill Olivia during the interrogation...
L.L. looked up from the large encyclopedia of history that rested in her lap, noting the time on the digital clock next to her. She had been reading for quite some time and seemed ready for a break. She looked over at Bucky, curious to see what he was up to.
"Hey," she greeted with a smile as if she had been away and not in the same room with him the whole time she was reading. Her chin rose and her nose twitched. "Making coffee?"
