Considering the world had nearly ended, anything other than low-key would have been gauche. The mansion hadn't been opened for years - since the death of Howard and Maria Stark - but luckily, a cleaning staff had come around regularly to prevent things from mildewing, or collecting dust. A few alterations had been made to the decor, but there was little time to do as much as Pepper would have liked.
She settled on a summer theme for decorations, but given their limitations (and the blight caused by the frost), all of her flowers were made out of many different colors of paper, artfully folded and combined into large bouquets and hung from the ceiling. paper garlands entwined around the banister of the staircase and bedecked the table, where paper topiaries served as centerpieces, all in the warmest colors.
Since food was still scarce, Pepper had been conservative there, as well. Local ranches had slaughtered and distributed a portion of their livestock to cut down on the cost of feeding them, so there were dishes including beef, pork, and chicken. Flour and rice were also in ample supply - easy to store and long lasting. Several cakes and baked goods were among the fare, as these were easy to make. Fruits and vegetables were more complicated, though a few hors d'oeuvres managed to include them, thanks to Stark Industries stores and Agricultural Department. Still, they had been careful. A lot of their supplies were still going to help the community, but by anyone's standards, this was not an extravagant Stark affair.
The bar, however, was doing just fine, and Tony's wine cellar had suffered not at all and his alcohol stores were in rich supply.
As people began to arrive, they would be directed to the ballroom, where they could eat, mingle, dance to the music JARVIS was running, or just talk as they liked.
