Rating: PG-13, just in case
Bruce hadn't planned on inviting anyone over to share in his confusion over the sudden appearance of Damian in his life, but somehow Clark always seemed to know when he needed someone around anyway. They'd had a long talk, and if he wasn't feeling more confident, at least he was feeling less anxious about the whole situation.
He'd been texting with Tony off and on throughout the evening, too, and at first had assured him he didn't need the company - especially on Stark's birthday. But as the conversation progressed, and it turned out he was alone for the evening, an impromptu party was devised, the location: the Batcave.
Telling Clark that Tony was on his way with birthday cake, Bruce sent him off to procure some Kryptonian Ale, and some of Ma's pie, then went to ask Alfred if there were anything suitable for them to eat, upstairs. Of course, this prompted the manservant to begin a cooking frenzy in honor of the occasion, making steak sandwiches, steak cut french fries, and brownies. He also brought down three kinds of homemade ice cream and the cookies he'd made that afternoon.
In spite of everything, Bruce was surprisingly looking forward to the evening ahead.
