Sounds of construction resonated down the corridor of the facility where Wanda stood. She was amazed at the speed in which they started doing the repairs; it seemed they were fixing things up as soon as Loki and his army of earth gollums were defeated. She let out a deep breath as she stared at a door in front of her. Beyond the door was the cell that once held the god Thor, but now restrained the man behind all the chaos from the previous day. A man whom for months Wanda believed was someone entirely different. A man that she had loved and trusted, never realizing he was secretly manipulating her. Her fists clinched unknowingly as she thought of the times she spent with "Tom" and feeling her pain and anger grow with each remembered word.
Heavy footfalls preceded the arrival of Thor, whose armor shimmered in the light of the halls and whose bearing had improved since they first met. He acknowledged her warmly, placing hands on both of her shoulders. “I came here as soon as I had word that you intended to speak with him, Wanda.” He looked down at her clenched fists and gave her a reassuring smile, releasing her shoulders and standing to his full height. “Know that as you aided me, I wish to return the favor. I am here for you should you need me.”
Wanda forced herself to smile, nodding in acknowledgement of his presence. She unclenched her fists, indents from her fingernails clearly visible on her palms. Raising her hand, she glanced down at the marks, wincing slightly when the pain they caused finally registered. "Thank you, Thor," she finally said, resting a hand on the side of his arm. "Your aid is appreciated, though I don't believe I will need it here."
“Mayhap not. You are the Scarlet Witch, after all.” He noticed her pain, but it was hers to acknowledge or not, and she did not wish to do so. “Know that my brother... words are a weapon for him, and they can work even on the strong of will. But also know that a part of him cares for you. He may lie, even to himself, but I witnessed him protect you from his own construct in the battlefield.”
He looked down and into her eyes, his sincerity plain. “If you desire it, I will stand with you inside, and say nothing unless you request it of me.”
Wanda was silent. She let Thor's words sink in as she replayed the instance she witnessed Loki destroy the construct about to hurt her in her mind. Ever since that moment she had been wondering why he had done it. Did he really care about her like Thor said or was there something else?
"I don't think..." she started to say, then stopped. Perhaps it would be a good idea to have Thor there as moral support. The man behind that door had cut her deep and she could only predict the wound would become deeper. She couldn't do this alone, no matter how much she wanted to believe it. "I would like that. I think I could use a friendly presence there."
“Then you shall have one,” Thor declared, though his voice remained quiet.
She nodded and turned towards the door. She let out a deep breath before commanding the door to slide open. Ahead of her were two SHIELD agents that had been put on guard standing dutifully in front of the cell. Within it was Loki, restrained by handcuffs. Wanda approached the guards as Thor hung back by the door.
"I wish to speak with the prisoner," she told the guards. "Alone." They looked at one another, obviously unsure about allowing this request. On one hand, they had been given strict orders to stand guard, but on the other hand this was a trusted member of SHIELD and a powerful Avenger to boot. When the guards failed to respond in a timely manner, Wanda said. "I have been given clearance. All you need to do is guard the outside door. I will inform you should anything happen."
The guards continued to look skeptical, but eventually conceded and left the room. Once she heard the sound of the door closing behind her, Wanda directed her attention towards the captive in front of her. "Loki," she greeted cooly.
