WHO: Antigone, Ares, Asterion, Bia
WHEN: Thursday night, directly following her conversation with Luna
WHERE: Outside Diogenes
WHAT: It's confrontation time
WARNINGS: TBA, we'll just update as we go. Rape mentions. And a FIGHT.

Whenever Antigone thought about confronting Ares in the past long weeks, she always imagined she'd do it with anger.

That she'd burn hot with the fire of injustice, that it would eviscerate all her fear.

It wasn't like that, though, as she followed Ares out into the night. It wasn't like that at all.

She was sad, she was resolute, and each step solidified her heart. With love, she thought. Solidified it with love. For the stranger in the bar, for the muse that'd given her a place to wash Maxwell's blood from her hands and a place to rest after. For every fellow woman that any man had ever used.

Asterion was checking in a small group of immortals when she left, she could slip out easily, through the crowded front room and into the night. The air was warm, and still, and full of voices, full of nightlife. Ares' form was unmistakable, though, so much bigger than most of the young, young things out tonight, as he cut away from them down an alley.

"You know what you're doing is wrong, Ares," Antigone called out to Ares' retreating back, her voice clear as she stepped into the alley behind him. "I know you know, and I know you don't care, but it's wrong. You're wrong."

High drama, Antigone thought, Bia's words tripping further alarm bells in her head. Feeling disjointed, she touched the splint lightly with her free hand, fingertips exploring the shape of it as her memory explored the shape of Romeo in her mind.

When Antigone had first met her, she'd been shattered. Maxwell's sudden death had wrung the last of the energy out of her body that Richard's slow death had depleted over the months before. Romeo had said You can rest here, for as long as you need and Antigone's gratitude for that time and that safety was so deep, it muffled the alarm bells. Twisted tragic stories, Ares had said... but none of that safety felt twisted. That had been real.

She thought of little things Romeo had said, or done, that hadn't seemed right at the time. The evening Antigone had armed herself with the weapons to take down that billboard, she'd asked Romeo if she could call her if she needed bailing out. She remembered Romeo's surprised and delighted laugh; she hadn't understood it at the time, but looking at it from this angle, it made more sense.

Antigone had put anything she didn't understand about Romeo down to the fact that she didn't understand love the way other people did. Her greatest act of love had been for her dead, rotting brother, and had seen her face Creon's law head on and break it, had seen her buried alive in a cave. That was her foundation stone, to what it meant to love.

"Her," she said to Bia. "I live with her."

How could anyone expect Antigone to tell love and tragedy apart? They were the same damned-by-the-gods thing.

Asterion sat and listened, nursing at his beer as Bia and Antigone spoke. When Antigone mentioned living with Melpomene, he frowned a little. "Do you need a place to stay?" he asked bluntly, because that was how he did everything. "I don't have to be there."

Gods primordial, Bia was beyond confused right now. "So... she's the one Ares is hurting?" she asked, grasping onto the one thing she thought she'd understood. Antigone had said it was her housemate who was in trouble.

Antigone shook her head like she could shake up the world, like it'd all settle in a pattern she understood when the shaking stopped. "No," she said to Asterion and "Yes," she said to Bia and then "I don't know... Yes, she and Ares are..."

Asterion had bought them drinks and Antigone didn't care what it was, she groped for the glass and knocked it back. The Scotch hit hard, but it was a fresh pain, and a purifying one, successfully burning off thoughts of her hand and her muse.

For the moment.

Face still recovering from the alcohol, Antigone looked up at Bia, at the confusion on hers. She grimaced an apology. "I need to go and talk to her, I think," she said, then "Thank you," to Asterion. "But I'll be... fine."

Asterion didn't know if he believed her, but honestly was it his right not to? "Call me if you need me?" he suggested instead. "I'll worry." He hoped she was alright and whatever was going on between the muses and Ares and herself was going to be alright.

Bia frowned. It felt like she and Antigone were now talking about entirely different things, and she could only begin to guess at the shape of what Antigone's thing was. She didn't like it, but... shit, the girl was wrung out and in shock, and her whole arm must be hurting like a bitch. Give her a break.

She tipped back her own drink, then rummaged through the scattered contents of the first aid kit, found some paper in the form of the instruction sheet that had come with the splint, and scribbled down some digits in the corner of the page. She tore it off and slid it across to Antigone. "There's my number, too. In case shit heats up again."

Antigone reached for Bia's number and found her hand was trembling, just enough to make her pincer grip on the scrap of paper harder than it should have been. She pushed the paper into her pocket, and gave them both a smile, one each. "Thanks," she said, and thought about admitting that calling for help was not her strong point. Was maybe her weakest. Maybe just above 'admitting she was wrong'. "Sorry I've made your night such a drama."

"No," Asterion said gently, shaking his head. "No apologies. Glad I was here."

"Yeah. You kidding? I haven't got to let loose like that in fuckin' forever." Bia twitched a small smile. "You want to start any more fights with gods, you can give me a call any time."
